Speakers jingled chimes all across the school. Hungered bellies growled as a few students rushed towards the canteen others ravaged through their lunches. Shouts could be heard as friends called to each other from different rooms. A pleasant atmosphere arose as chatter filled the halls. Out by the fields, a group of three girls giggled as they conversed.
"Hey Nell," one of the girls inquired. "So... who are you dating?"
"W-what?" the girl stuttered. "I'm not dating anyone, come on Ther it's barely been that long since I transferred here."
"Hey but you're always surrounded by those boys~," Ther teased. "Isn't that right, Diee?"
"Yeah, yeah! Griffin Bergertale, Edward Soutoga, Cedric Fimbleweed and even Drew Drew the school's Prince!" The last girl, Diee exclaimed.
"If those hotties were always hanging around me, I'd have picked one and started dating already," Ther giggled.
Ther and Diee sighed, staring up at the sky in a tipsy daydream. Nell looked at them, worry flickering in her eyes before it washed away with a smile of carefree peace. The other two took notice, catching the eyes of the other girl. Again in union they sighed, hiding their blushes.
"So which one are you dating?" Diee poked this time.
"I told you I'm not dating anyone. We're all just friends," she ended with a slight smile.
A small silence crept by before Ther and Diee both jumped and tackled Nell into a hug. They squealed like pigs and rubbed their faces in Nell's soft rosy blonde hair.
"Oh you're so cute, Nell!" Ther complimented her.
"And your hair is so nice! What are you using?" Diee added.
Flabbergasted, Nell just stood there as her two friends threw compliments at her. She should be used to the ongoing praises by now but all she could do was blush, covering her face in her hands. She felt the embarrassment like hot air rushing to her face.
They're quite good at acting.
While she was drowned with compliments, Nell noticed someone from the corner of her eye. Their glossy well kept blonde hair stood out. They approached quickly though hesitantly. Ther and Diee were quick to catch him approaching them.
“Good afternoon, ladies,” he greeted. His voice was a little deep but radiated a majestic air enforcing an aura of charisma. He stood over the girls, towering slightly.
“Hi Drew!~” Ther and Diee cooed in unison.
“H-hello, Drew!” Nell replied then looked around him. “What are you doing here by yourself? Where are the others?”
“Oh, the others are busy. I finished my student council work early. Actually, is it alright with you right now, may I borrow you for a moment?” The tone of his voice lingered with confidence and a small bit of arrogance understandably present. He looked over to the other two girls with the question in his eyes and a gentle but pleasing smile on his face.
“You can take her for as long as you like,~” Ther replied quickly as eyes widened in a kind of understanding.
“Yes, yes. No need for us to disturb you. Go on Nell!~” Diee added as the two smirked at each other.”
“Do you have something to say, Drew? Can you not just say it here?” Nell pondered.
“It’s a private matter if you may. Let’s go somewhere quiet?” Drew probed, a drop of sadness appeared in his eyes.
Nell, perplexed at the notion of a private meeting, struggled to comprehend what Drew wanted. Her friends urged Nell to go, silently swooning over the brooding ‘prince’. Eventually, after not so much convincing, Nell left with Drew. Ther and Diee smiled cheerily and waved at their friend. They continued as they watched the school’s prince and their adorable friend disappeared into the building…

Their smiles dropped, replaced with envy, jealousy and disgust.
“That banshee is finally gone,” Ther grunted as she dusted off the areas where she touched Nell.
“Yeah, finally,” Diee whined. “What bullcrap is she sprouting, saying she’s not dating anyone with that ‘pretty’ face!”
“That attention-seeker is probably flirting with all of them.”
“What really!?” Diee shocked beyond belief. “She’s trying to get with all of them then? What about us!?”
“Hmph,” Ther huffed. Then she replied with a haughty giggle. “Well, she’s soooo easy to deal with. If we sweet talk her a bit, it won’t be hard to snag a boy or two.”
“Gasp! You’re so smart Ther!” Diee exclaimed as she snuggled up to the smarter girl.
“That’s right, unlike some bubbly idiot we know,” she murmured the last bit.
“I feel sorry for Drew Drew,” Diee sighed. “He’s obviously smitten by her looks! I hope she doesn’t hurt him with that stupid personality of hers...”
Ther pat Diee on the back in comfort. Then, the two carried on with their gossip. They moved to leave the field headed toward the bathrooms. Unbeknownst to them, a flicker of dark red hair whipped out from behind a nearby tree, followed by a flash headed straight for the school building.

Her heart ran for miles through her body, turning every inch of her skin red. Her gaze would drift around the still-quiet room. She looked down at his shoes, her fingers fiddled nervously. Every so often she looked up, peeking at his bright blue eyes and every so often he would look into her glistening grey eyes with a slight look of longing. Occasionally she would glance at the empty seats, counting the bags. The empty space filled and closed down on them, a near suffocating air grew with the tension, with each strong, clear beat of their hearts.
She was not used to being alone with anyone.
"N-Nell..." he stuttered a breath, as the silence and tension broke. He was shaking, a bare and obvious contrast to his previously confident demeanour. He took a deep breath in an attempt to restore his confidence.
"What is it Drew?" the girl replied, hesitantly. The broken silence cleared her mind, her nervously hot skin returning to a pleasant pink. She pulled a strand of hair behind her ear, as she slowly brought herself to look at Drew straight in his eyes, tilting her head with innocent curiosity. "Why did you call me into this empty classroom?"
Her guard lowered as she relaxed with the broken silence. Even if she was alone with someone, it’s just Drew, right? This is what she thought.
Drew looked back at her. They stood staring at each other for a moment. Then, as another moment passed Drew's confidence built up again. He took another breath, murmuring a few words under his breath. Nell perked at his movements and took a step closer.
"What do you have to tell me Drew?" she inquired all too sweetly, catching the boy off guard.
A small blush lit his face as he turned away, taking a step back. Her eyes seemed to sparkle and glitter under the sunlight that shone through an open window. Despite being lost for words, in the next moment his air of confidence only grew. He puffed his chest and brought his attention back to Nell, who smiled at him with gentle warmth as waited patiently.
"Nell," he said as his confidence overflowed. He paused for a second, with the same look of longing from earlier taking over his expression. "I love you."
Nell’s eyes widened as she shifted backwards slightly.
“L-love?” she was noticeably shaken as she covered her face with her hands, attempting to hide her reddening face, to no avail.
“Yes, Nell. That’s right. I love you,” he repeated the line, encouraged as he watched the girl’s cute reaction. “I would be ecstatic if you would accept me as your lover. Please go out with me.”
She could barely contain her confusion, but the straightforwardness of the confession quickly brushed away her qualms.
“W-why?” she managed to stutter.
“I have been entranced by you, Nell, since you first appeared here,” he smiled lovingly. “I still remember seeing you hair flowing through the corridor as you hurried to the assembly hall that first morning. The intellect in your speech announcing yourself as the new scholarship student on the podium. Your bravery when confronting those delinquents. The kindness you expressed helping that lost child… I could go on if you’d like.”
“T-that’s alright,” she answered.
He smiled at her again, flowers seeming to shower behind him as he reminisced scenes of his admiration and love. She turned away in embarrassment.
His eyes flickered downwards.
“So, Nell,” he said, catching her attention again. She turned around. “Do you have an answer or would you like some time to think this over? I know this seems quite sudden for you but-”
“Oh no! It’s okay. I don’t want to make you wait,” Nell quickly cut in. “Actually, I- I like you, too…”
There was a moment of silence with their acknowledged mutual feelings.
So it seemed.
“Just like?” Drew inquired with a slight pang to his heart.
“N-no! I-I l-lo… I luw you too…” she whispered.
Not a moment later, Drew pulled Nell into a hug. Surprised by the sudden contact, Nell recovered her senses and hugged the taller boy back. Their embrace was warm, hearts beat as if in sync…
Drew’s hand slowly moved down Nell’s back…
Promptly, she pushed him away. Shock flashed on her face.
“W-what are you doing?!”
“I have been waiting for so long. I could barely contain myself every time I saw you, my dear sweet Nell.~” he teased.
She looked at him straight into his eyes once more. They seemed to overflow, with the strong feelings of love and longing. And lust.
