In the weeks after his dad told him about the engagement, Alexander had spent a lot of time reflecting about his future as the next Alpha. He was coming to terms with what needed to be done in order for him to be the Alpha that the pack needed. This included the marriage that his dad had arranged. Elizabeth would be a great Luna. She was from an eastern pack, which were well known for their intelligence and battle strategy, which would be very beneficial to the looming rogue issue.
Over the last few weeks, Elizabeth had also come to visit the Crescent Moon Pack and she was beautiful. Her hair was done in tight braids, adorned with golden trinkets and rings that stood out against her dark complexion. She was also tall, with a slim but muscular build that showcased that she was an excellent fighter. Beyond her looks, she was also kind with a warm smile that constantly graced her lips.
Furthermore, even though Alexander was guarded around new people, Elizabeth was able to penetrate the walls he put up almost immediately. They become quick friends and Alexander quickly grew accustomed to thinking of her as his future wife. All-in-all she would make a great Luna to the pack.
Soon Alexander left behind the idea of a fated mate, and with that idea left to the wind, Alexander also subconsciously let go of the idea of being with Kai. In fact, Alexander was so focused on his new engagement and the ball that he almost forgot about the Omega entirely. Kai became a faint memory in the back of his mind. Alexander justified this with the idea that Kai had already found a partner in Kyle.
*The Alpha’s Ball and Alexander’s eighteenth birthday*
Alexander awoke on the morning of his eighteenth birthday with excitement! Today was the day that his father would be announcing the engagement and the day of the Ball that signifies his adulthood. He got up from his bed and immediately got ready for the day to come. He had a lot on his plate today.
After leaving his room, Alexander walked into the large banquet hall in the pack house where hundreds of guests were now seated, eating breakfast. They were the leadership from the surrounding packs that had come from all over the country to attend the ball. Most had arrived yesterday. Alexander’s first job of the day was to go around and greet his guests. As he was making his rounds, a strange feeling started to bubble up in the pit of his stomach. He knew what the feeling was, the awakening of the fated connection, but the future Alpha chose to ignore it. He would deal with the connection later, but for now he had work to do.
Hours later, Alexander sat in his room. The feeling in his stomach was getting stronger by the hour. It was so strong, that Alexander wondered what his fated mate was feeling at the moment. Why hadn’t they seeked him out? Could he really reject a connection that was this strong? What would happen after the rejection? How would the other person react? Alexander did not know much about fated mates, as it was never a topic that was ever taught to him. This was most likely due to his parents always expecting him to be in an arranged marriage. At this moment, he wished that he would have done some more research, but it was already too late. Whatever was going to happen, was going to happen.
A sudden knock on his door brought him back to reality. Letting out a sigh, he got up and answered the door, smiling at the person behind it. His future wife!
“I came to check-in on you!” Elizabeth smiled, “how are you doing?”
“I am good! I am excited about tonight!” Alexander replied pulling Elizabeth in for a tight hug, “how are you doing?”
“I am excited as well! Happy Birthday!” Her smile deepened as she leaned up for a quick kiss. As soon as her lips met his, the connection in his stomach quivered as if it knew. It made his skin crawl as if he was doing something wrong. He chose to ignore the feeling.
“Thank you!” He replied before kissing his future Luna back.
***
Alexander stood at the top of the stairs leading down to the extravagantly decorated ballroom. He stared out at the crowded room and basked in the absolute beauty of the situation. The decorators had done a wonderful job. Silver chandeliers hung from the ceilings casting rays of light over the room which reflected off of the hanging banners that strategically hung from the rafters displaying their families crest, a wolf howling on the edge of a crescent moon. It was as if the room itself was blessed by the light of the moon.
Party goers danced in the middle of the ballroom in Silver dresses and tuxedos. Laughter could be heard throughout the room, signifying the joyous occasion. Alexander smiled as his father and mother joined him on the stairs.
“Are you ready, my son?” His father asked. Alexander could only reply with a nod as his father cleared his throat, the sound reverberating around the room. The party goers stopped dancing to look up at his father with full attention.
“Friends old and new, as you know this ball is to celebrate the eighteenth birthday of my son and future Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack! Let his reign be blessed by the Moon Goddess herself,” his father started. The party goers cheered and repeated his last words before his father continued. “We are also here to celebrate another joyous occasion! My son, from tonight on, will be engaged and bonded to the eldest daughter of the great Eastern Meadow pack, Miss Elizabeth Meadows!”
As soon as Alexander's father said her name, Elizabeth stepped forward and joined my family and I on the stairs, linking her arm with mine to look out over the crowd. Thunderous applause and cheers were heard, as the young couple made their way down the stairs and into the center of the ballroom where they would take their first dance. As they danced around the room, others soon joined until the dance floor was covered by a sea of silver bodies.
Later that night, Alexander felt a pull from the connection that led him outside into the gardens behind the pack house. As he breathed in the fresh air of the outside, he could also smell a scent that made his mouth water and his fangs elongate. It smelled like fresh dew in a forest first touched by the morning sun with sweet undertones of honey and the calming scent of fresh lavender.
Seated on a garden bench was the Omega that he had fallen in love with. His silver suit reflected the light from the moon as if the Moon Goddess herself had built a silver spotlight just for the young Omega. He is absolutely gorgeous, the future Alpha thought to himself, his mouth slightly ajar.
As if Kai could feel his presence, he slowly turned around to look at him and their eyes met as the connection was finally fully realized. The meeting of fated mates. Kai stood up and slowly walked towards Alexander, reaching up and placing a hand on the future Alpha’s well defined jaw.
“Happy Birthday,” Kai said. “I am sorry I am late.”
Alexander was at a loss for words as he stared down at the Omega. His dark eyes put him in a trance-like state. All he could think about at the moment was Kai. The Omega slowly leaned up towards the Alpha, closing his eyes as he got closer to the fated kiss that they would share.
Alexander snapped back to reality as soon as Kai closed his eyes, stepping back and away from him.
“I, Alexander Moon, reject Kai Wen.”
Before Alexander could process what he said, a heartbreaking scream pierced his ears and the last thing he saw before Kai disappeared was the bright red eyes of a rogue. All Alexander could do was stand and stare at where Kai once stood. His whole body turned numb as the connection in his stomach was being ripped apart piece by piece.
“What the fuck did you do?” He heard an irate voice behind him. Alexander turned to see Kyle running towards him, his face twisted in an anger that he had never seen the future Beta show.
“I-” but before he could finish, Kyle punched him square in the jaw. Alexander was so shocked by the Beta’s hostility that he dropped to the ground. “I rejected Kai… I thought you would be happy. You are together aren’t you?”
“Fuck, Fuck, FUCK,” Kyle responded. “You just rejected him without even warning him? God, Alexander I knew you were dense but I didn’t think you were fucking cruel!
“But…” Alexander started before being interrupted again.
“If you reject a fated mate without warning, they can turn rogue, you dumbass.”
Alexander’s heart broke. “I didn’t know… I thought he was going to reject me as well.”
Kyle scoffed at the future Alpha and started walking towards the direction Kai ran. He turned back towards Alexander, “oh by the way, Kai and I are cousins. I guess you didn’t know,” he said. Kyle whispered another “dumbass” before turning back around and ran off, transforming into his wolf form mid-run.
Alexander was left laying there, numb at the grave mistake he had just made.
Author’s Note: WOW, this chapter was hard to write! The next chapter will be the continuation of the current storyline that was established in the prologue! There will be more backstory chapters in the future, but they won’t be for a couple of chapters.
So what do you think so far? These last couple of chapters were very hard to write! Kai is like my child, so to see him so hurt is killing me inside!
Oh… and I know some of you more dirty minded people will find the title a little… well you know… and if you don’t then good, cause that’s not what I meant!
