"It's a pleasure to see so many new students who are
about to venture into the world of magic! First of all, I'd like to welcome and
congratulate all of you who have chosen to study magic at the Academy of the
Salexty empire! My name is Wixtia Valenrose, and I am the director of this
Academy. Since there are no entrance exams, as you all know, we still weed out
those who have no talent or skills required to join the military or other
fields the Academy is associated with. But that happens only after the first
year, so do your best not to be the ones that have to drop out. With all that
said, good luck!"
The director of the Academy left the assembly hall. She is said to be as old as the Salexty Empire and was one of the grand mages that defended it when it was founded. Still, it's impossible to give her more than thirty years, not over four hundred. The long red hair that seemed as if it was on fire appears to have made a great first impression on all the new students. Since I was sitting at the end of the hall, I could see her hair color, but barely make out her face, but other male students that were closer seem to have fallen in love with her looks. Time to leave and unpack my stuff in the place I'll be staying.
Hmmm… the room furthest down the hall. Oh, here it is, Elias
Lyceus… and Ventus Exmach; I guess that's my roommate. Well, I would've liked
to get the same room as Tobias. Still, since he is of noble birth, they have a
completely different place where they stay… and have their private rooms.
Still, I've lived with Tia in the same room for many years, so I'm rather glad
that I have someone else here since I haven't been used to staying alone. I
just hope he's a nice guy.
"That goes there… and this here, ok seems that I'm
done." I talked with myself. As I finished unpacking, the doors opened.
"Heyo, what's up, my roomie, the name's Ventus, but I guess you already
know." A colossal guy walked in the room; his hair was ash blonde, dark
blue eyes and masculine physic. He didn't seem like he's from Salexty. I've
heard of that hair color coming from the land at the south, far beyond the
forest of Nakte.
"Hello, my name is Elias Lyceus. I'll be your roommate for probably the
next four years." I looked at him; I
tried to be as polite as possible.
"Ay, talk like dude, I'm tired of nice yapping and stuff. Oh… I look
older, so that's why you're like that. I'm nineteen soon, but just talk casual, ok?
How old are you?" He smiled and tapped my left shoulder a few times while
talking.
"I'm thirteen years old now. I'll try my best to be casual around you."
"Sure, Lil bro, can I call you bro? I already am, so just deal with it,
ok, Lil bro?" He stretched out his hand for a handshake.
"Okey, feel free to do that." And I went for a handshake too.
"I'm off to check out the place, cya, Lil bro!" He flew out of the
room and forgot to shut the door.
Guess I'll go out too.
Once I entered something that seemed like a garden, I
spotted Tobias talking with few people. He saw me and waved, so I decided to
sit down somewhere nearby and wait for him for a bit. There weren't many
students nearby. I guess everyone is still unpacking as it is the first day
since they moved here. The people that were walking around mainly were having
an emblem of Salexty Academy. That's what they give you after successfully
moving up a year in the Academy. Besides having color changes, the emblems stay
the same throughout the years until you reach the fifth year. At that time,
you're choosing to either join the military and finish your studies that way.
Students are primarily tasked with supporting the troops and learning how to
live in military situations. The other way is to study two more years if you
don't want to join the battlefield. However, they can get drafted if it's
necessary. Still, since Salexty Empire hasn't been defeated for many centuries
now, people who chose to not join the military never get called in anyway. As I
plan to join the military, the choice for me is obvious.
I laid down on the bench and closed my eyes. The air was
crisp and clean; it felt nice.
"Hello, do you mind if I sit down?" I heard a voice talking with me.
Oh… I fell asleep. As I opened my eyes, a girl with long purple-pink hair was
standing next to me. She looked at me with her different colored eyes. The left
one was light green with a merlot brown color going around her pupil, and the
right was golden yellow with small dark green spots.
"Oh, sorry, please, feel free to sit here, I was just waiting for my
friend, and I ended up falling asleep…." I scratched the back of my head
and gave a little dumb smile.
"I see, but be careful of your surroundings, especially later on in your
academic life, since people tend to get very competitive and sometimes make
trouble." It felt as if I was scolded… She talked in the same tone in which
Rinn usually speaks when she's about to scold Tia, I found it funny, so I
laughed by accident.
"What's so funny? I was just warning you??" She pouted and crossed
her arms, just like Rinn does.
"Sorry, sorry, you just reminded me of my older sister." I wanted to
laugh even more, but I don't want to make her mad, so I took a deep breath and
stopped.
"Then be grateful that I warned you and saved you from future
problems." She looked so proud when saying that, so I ended up bursting
out in laughter…
"You-you're just like Rinn, now I know how Tia feels like." I held my
stomach, and even tears came out. I couldn't stop laughing due to her
resembling Rinn to this extent.
"Hey… Hey… Please end it; people are looking at you like you're some sort
of a madman, and they are also watching me…." She looked so uncomfortable
that it was even funnier. She was blushing and covering her face with her
hands.
"Ah… Sorry, thank you for the good laugh. My name's Elias Lyceus. Thank
you for your warning; I'll keep that in mind." I stood up and planned to
go back to my room. It seems that Tobias was too busy to come by anyway.
"Hey, stop, I didn't give you, my name. I'm Reina Akari." After that,
she rested her chin on her palm and seemed as if she drowned in her own
thoughts. She tilted her head left and right.
After nearly thinking for a minute, she asked me. "Wait, are you the
little brother of Rinn? Rinn Lyceus?"
"Yes, Rinn is my big sister. Do you know of her?"
"I do; she's so cool… and smart… and beautiful… I wish I could be like
her." She seemed to like my sister as I could see stars shining in her
eyes.
"Don't worry, you're pretty much the same person." I bet she even
nags like Rinn does.
"That's rude…." She pouted again. I almost laughed again…
"Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you… Okay, I'll be going now; see you
around…." I turned around to leave.
"No, it's not about me; you insulted your own sister. I can't compare with
her on any level." Aaaaaand now she's sad…
"I'll be going, sorry that I offended my own sister, bye…." I began
to walk fast, really fast, back to my room…
