Motion of sperm inside the uterus?
Ohh Satan! What crimes had I done in my previous life to deserve such humiliation? Wait. This time I literally know what I did in my previous life.
"Hahaha. That was a good one. He is funny. Haha." Karthik broke the long depressing silence with his laugh.
"I don't think he is joking." replied Rahul with a stern expression on his face.
"Asura, half of your books are still in their plastic covers. Have you even started studying yet?" He asked.
I didn't reply. It had been just a day since I had finally decided to start studying. So my mistake was plausible. Still, it was extremely embarrassing. All I could do was keep my head down, remain silent and wish for them to leave.
"Well… If he doesn't know anything, then there's no helping it." said Maanvi as she closed her books.
Yeah, she is right. As I am now, I will only pull you guys down. I can do it alone and discover things on my own at my own pace. So let's not waste each other's time anymore.
"Okay! So let's start from the beginning." declared Maanvi.
Yes. That's a rational deci… Wait. What?
"What are you talking about? What do you mean by starting from the beginning?" I asked.
"I mean from the very start, like the Subjects, about the exam and college."
"What I meant was, why are you wasting your time on me?"
"We have to work together and help each other. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. We can use our strengths to help others in their weaknesses so that they can help us back in the same way." Maanvi put her hands together in front and smiled.
My strengths? I am good at assassination, torturing and using opponent's weaknesses to manipulate them. How can I help a college student using these skills?
"Ok, I will start." said Rahul as he turned towards me, "The NTA - National Testing Agency, holds two special exams every year in addition to the other Entrance exams. One is NEAT for medical fields and JEE for engineering fields. The students who become doctors and engineers in the future through this exam are known worldwide for their expertise in their particular fields. NEAT stands for National Entrance Advanced Exam which is the exam we are preparing for.
Any student who manages to get an All India Rank (AIR) in the top 100 gets to choose among the top colleges from all over India in any course of their choice in the selected medical or engineering field. They also get a scholarship which pays for their complete education fees along with their daily expenses and accommodation charges."
I had already obtained some information about the exam from the goddess. But her version mostly explained why this exam is considered the toughest in the universe. Even though I am not preparing for this exam with these end results in mind, these rewards don't sound bad at all from a human's perspective.
Rahul continued with his explanation, "In short, anyone who succeeds in this exam has their life set. Too good to be true right? But there are some cons to it too. As this exam is held separately and specifically for NEAT, we can't take admission in any college based on this exam's outcome if we didn't make it in the top 100. It doesn't matter how high you score, you have to be in the top rankers. The syllabus and the level of difficulty of this exam are completely different from the other Entrance Exams, so it makes it difficult for the student to attempt other exams with the same knowledge.
That's why even smart and extraordinary students avoid preparing for this exam because it has a very low success rate. When they can easily score good marks and get admission to a well-to-do college. The only students who end up giving this exam are students who can't afford the hefty University fees and have no other option. So even though this looks like such a golden opportunity, it is nothing more than a big gamble. Because in the end if you didn't make it to the top like the 99.99% won't, then they have no other way to go."
As Rahul took a break with his lengthy explanation a gloomy air surrounded us. Everyone sat quietly with faces as long as a fiddle after realizing the harsh truth and gravity of the task they had undertaken. The deafening silence somehow makes what is already a fairly depressing atmosphere considerably worse.
Thud. Maanvi landed a punch right on top of Rahul's head.
"Argh… Hey! What was that for? He cried out in pain.
"Look what you did. You ruined everyone's mood. Are you trying to scare him off?" Maanvi always looks out for people around her. It was almost like a parent caring for their children.
"Aren't we supposed to explain everything to him?" he grumbled as he rubbed his head, annoyed due to the unexpected punishment he got.
"Let me take it from here." said Maanvi as she shifted her attention towards me, "Our college MMAC - Mumbai Metropolitan Advanced college is a private college that specializes in preparing students for the NEAT examination.
NEAT is an MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) based exam held every year in May. It is a 3-hour long exam consisting of 180 questions. 45 questions each of Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. That means each subject carries equal weights and you can't take it easy on a particular one or have a favorite subject."
"What is up with that?" Karthik interrupted Maanvi, "I still don't get it. Shouldn't a subject like Zoology, which is certainly of more use in the medical field carry more marks than subjects like Physics or Chemistry which have little or no use at all?`` After expressing his discontent, he put another handful of potato chips in his mouth. He had single-handedly devoured all the snacks.
"This doubt comes in every student's mind. But you can't do anything about it. This exam is just a means to measure the candidate's perseverance, flexibility, time management along with the amount of pressure one can endure." she replied, trying her best to answer Karthik.
"That doesn't make sense. I still find it stupid." replied Karthik, heedless of her explanation.
He went ahead and gobbled up another handful of potato chips when his gaze met with the glaring eyes of Maanvi. Cough Cough. He averted his eyes as he gulped down a bottle of cola. She still had a smile on her face which made her glare all the more scary.
Once again she directed her attention towards me. In a second, she was back to her cheerful self. "Next is the marking system. For each right answer, you get four marks which makes a total of 720 marks. One mark is deducted if you get the question wrong, so testing your luck in the exam is not a good choice. Umm… I think this much information should be enough to give you a basic idea about the exam, subjects and the college."
It had only been a week and they already had everything figured out. I was still far behind everyone else. We spent the next few hours studying. Almost all the teaching was done by Maanvi. She also made sure that Karthik and I were paying attention. Rahul was focused on the topic being discussed but didn't make any contribution to the group study. On the other hand, Aishwarya, who was the reason this group study came into existence, studied by herself on the bed.
If I had got a chance to avoid this meetup, I would have most probably skipped it. But I think in the end, this study session turned out to be a lot more fruitful than I had expected. I was still wary of them and avoided sharing anything because repeating my past mistakes was the last thing I wanted.
