Jul 18, 2021

The next day was Saturday.

When the sun rose and peeked through the blinds it felt weird.

Kaami and I had gone to bed pretty late. We wanted to make sure everything was alright with the kid. Tau didn't come out of his room the whole night. There wasn't a single sound coming from behind the door, either. The only thing that happened was me imagining some crying sounds in the middle of the night.

Kaami was deep asleep. I had rolled out of the bed to make sure everything was okay. But when I stood in front of the door, everything was quiet.

I still was nervous and couldn't fall asleep immediately.

The last time I had looked at the digital display was at three thirty.

"Morning", Kaami yawned and rolled over to my side of the bed. His arms grabbed me and pulled me in for a hug. He snuggled his face against my neck.

His warm breath brushed against my skin and made me feel all warm and fluffy.

"You're such a fluffy pillow." "Thanks", he purred and his voice made me shiver.

I leaned into him even more and grabbed his hands, which had already lifted my shirt and brushed over my skin.

"I want you", I whispered.

"Hmmm." His raspy voice was so close, it made my cheek feel like vibrating with it.

"I want you so bad!"

"Nik, we have a kid." "He probably is still asleep."

Kaami's hands brushed lower and lower until they reached my boxers' waistband.

"I want you, too." "What's stopping you then?" "Tau."

I turned around to face Kaami. Within the movement, his hands moved and landed on my butt. Kaami slightly squeezed it and made me moan.

"Shh, honey!"

Panicking he pulled his hands out of my boxers.

We looked at each other.

After a moment I sat up and looked down on his body. His upper body was bare. Kaami hated sleeping with shirts. And I liked it better, anyways. It was way more comfortable to sleep next to a fluffy, warm body than to fabric.

"Let's get up, then. I want some breakfast."

"Yeah. I need some tea."

When the breakfast table was set halfway we heard the bathroom door open and close, then the flush.

"He's awake!"

Smiling, Kaami turned away from the coffee-machine and grabbed my shoulders. "I know." "Come on! Help me set the table!" "I'm helping you." "Faster", he hissed. "Babe!"

"We have to-"

"Hey."

The kitchen door opened and Tau's dark head peeked into the kitchen.

Instantly, Kaami let go.

"Good morning, Tau. Come here and have a seat." Furrowing, the boy entered the room and sat on the same chair as yesterday.

"What do you want to eat? Bread? Ham? Cheese?"

Kaami put my coffee-mug on the table and expectantly turned to Tau.

"I - I don't eat meat."

For a moment Kaami fell silent, then his smile appeared again. "No problem. Just tell us." "Do you have cornflakes?"

Shit.

"Uh. We have porridge and fruits?" "That's okay." "Bananas?" "Sure."

It was that day we found out Tau had a smartphone. He was constantly messaging some other kids from the orphanage or his class.

Every time we asked if he wanted to do something with us, he refused.

"What are your hobbies", Kaami tried that evening. Tau shoved a huge spoonful of pasta into his mouth and started chewing - loudly.

First it seemed as if he ignored us, and I got really annoyed by his chewing. Then, he stopped and looked at us. "Nothin'" I stopped twisting the noodles around my fork and looked at his sauce-smeared face. This kid had no manners! "Pardon?" "I have no hobbies." "Oh, come on! You must have something, you like." He gave my words some thought and continued eating, then shook his head no. "No", he said, chewing. "Boy!"

Kaami stopped eating and looked at me, alarmed.

"Could you try to close your mouth while eating?" "Why?"

"Because everyone does." "I'm not everyone." "That's right, but you live in this household now and in this household you are supposed to close your mouth while eating." "Then you aren't allowed to talk, too." "I don't have pasta in my mouth!" "Nik, leave it." Kaami sounded nervous.

"Yes, Nik, leave it", Tau mocked Kaami's words in a very high pitched voice that sounded gayish.

"Hey! Don't talk like that!" "Like what?" "Like a bully who thinks he's worth more than others." "I ain't no bully!" Tau's face became more and more furious. "You intimidate me! Fucking gays!"

"THAT'S ENOUGH!"

Um... That's actually veeeery typical teenage behaviour 😜🤣.
And unfortunately also a very typical parental reaction 🤦‍♂️😵.

(At least Tau is paying attention, I'll give him that!).... But he is clearly testing the waters for boundaries (and overstepping in giant strides...)

Kaami and Nik have been a couple for eight years now.
They have been through many things and are now ready for the next step in their life!
A child!
Unfortunately, it is way harder to give a child a home when you live in a society that doesn't allow non-hetero-couples to adopt.
Eventually, they get the ONE chance to foster a kid - a boy who is traumatized and for some reason is not able to be around Kaami.
Because Kaami is not human...

Will there be any chance for the three of them to grow together as a family?
Or will society force them on their knees?
