Lisa woke up in the morning to loud voices and lots of cursing. She didn’t know what was going on as she sat up in bed and rubbed her eyes. Sighing to herself, she had an idea about what the loud voices could be about.
It was probably her father and sister fighting again, but who knew.
Getting off of her bed groggily, Lisa went straight to her room door to see what was happening downstairs.
Exiting the room, she walked down the corridor towards the stairs, and heard the voices growing louder.
Words were becoming distinct now as she descended the stairs.
“This is so weird, and so not cool!”
“You think I like being in a teenager’s body!”
Lisa’s eyes widened as soon as she registered what her sister and father were talking about. Her steps became a lot quicker as she quickly went to the living room, only to see her father sitting on the couch with a blanket covering his whole body, while her sister wore a large shirt and large pants.
“What’s happening?” Michael and Andrea’s attention went straight to Lisa, who stood dumbfounded in front of them.
Glancing at each other, Michael began to speak first.
“You see, honey, something happened last night and we woke up like this.”
Lisa rubbed her eyes again, hoping to herself that maybe she was dreaming but this was all real. “You don’t talk like that, Andrea.”
“Oh yeah, because Andrea is here, in this weird old man’s body.” Lisa turned her head to look at her father, who wasn’t acting like himself.
“Hey! I am not a weird old man!” Lisa turned to look at Andrea now, who was way out of character as she yelled at her father.
“Oh my god, this isn’t real.”
“Yeah, our reaction was the same. I woke up this morning, and I was sleeping half-naked. The weirder part is where I had no clothes on!” Michael sighed as he shook his head at Andrea’s exaggeration.
“And what about me, huh? This is weirder for me.”
Lisa groaned as she practically yelled out loud. “This is the weirdest to me! You both shouldn’t be talking like each other. What is wrong with you two!?”
Michael and Andrea sighed before they glanced at each other.
“We don’t know, honey. As I said before, we just woke up like this.” Lisa stared at her sister, who was talking like her father. This was not cool, not cool at all.
This definitely felt like a dream to her, but it all looked so real. Everything looked so real.
“So now what?”
Andrea raised an eyebrow which looked really weird since she was practically her father. “You believe us, right?”
Lisa nodded her head reluctantly before she sighed, “It’s not like you two would be civilized to each other just to prank me.”
Michael nodded his head before he sat down on the recliner close to him. “I think I’ll have to go call for a leave from work.”
“Also, call my school and tell them I ain’t going today.” Michael glared at his body, as he ran a hand over his face. “You know that you’ll have to call both places. I can’t do that with my girly voice.”
Andrea glared at her own body, before she got up from the sofa with a groan.
“I think, I’ll flirt a little with the principal then.” Michael’s eyes widened as he heard what Andrea had just said. “Don’t you dare!”
“What, why?” Andrea looked at herself with an innocent face, “She’s single, you’re single. I think I’ll have a chance.”
“Oh my god, just do what you’re supposed to do. Please don’t do anything unnecessary.” Andrea smirked to herself which looked really perverted from Lisa and Michael’s viewpoint.
Lisa still hadn’t really understood the situation correctly. She didn’t know what had really happened for her sister and father to become like this.
Unknown to her, it was all her doing and she’d find out later.
…………………………………………….
“Okay, I called your work, and my school about how we’re going to take a leave for some time.” Michael sighed from the sofa while Lisa looked up at her father – well, her sister.
“I told my school that I had been in a small accident due to your reckless driving.” Michael widened his eyes as Andrea smirked. “And I told your work that you had to take care of me because you got us into that accident.”
“I don’t understand where she gets this from.” Michael mumbled to himself which made Lisa giggle.
Andrea looked at Lisa before she turned to look at the time. “Lisa, don’t you have to go to school?”
It was as if Michael had become more aware of the time as he nodded his head. “Come on, go get ready, I’ll make breakfast and then drop you there.”
Lisa nodded her head before getting up to go upstairs, while Andrea looked at herself strangely.
“I don’t know how to cook anything.” Michael rolled his eyes before he looked at himself. He had no idea what this situation was but he had to accept it if he wanted to fix it.
“Well, I do. I make Andrea breakfast every morning. You wouldn’t know that since you never have breakfast with us.” Andrea rolled her eyes as she followed Michael into the kitchen.
“How do you think we can fix this?” Andrea spoke up as Michael went to get some eggs out of the fridge, finding it hard to be in such a small body. “I don’t know, maybe if we find out the cause of this, we can do something about it.”
“We can’t go to a doctor, right? They’ll just think we’re crazy.”
Michael nodded his head as he turned to look at himself. “We can just wait, for some time right now.”
Upstairs, Lisa showered and got ready to go downstairs. Grabbing her bag from her work desk, she didn’t know how but her hand accidently bumped into something which caused it to fall.
This time there was no sound, neither were there any broken pieces as Lisa looked down to see the same starry snow-globe her father had bought for her.
Suddenly, she remembered last night quite clearly as she widened her eyes in realization. She remembered her wish, and she knew in her heart that maybe that wish was what caused this.
Picking the snow-globe up from the floor, she quickly left her room with her bag on one shoulder.
She had to go tell her father about this.
………………………………………………..
Michael and Andrea were just awkwardly in the kitchen. This was the most they had spent time together without fighting about something with each other. Michael was peacefully making scrambled eggs while Andrea sat at the island, playing around with a spoon.
They hadn’t heard Lisa run into the kitchen but when the girl began to talk, both of their attention went straight to her.
“I think I know what caused this!”
Michael raised an eyebrow while Andrea squinted her eyes. “You bought me this for my birthday yesterday, dad.” Lisa walked over to her father, which made Michael cough out loud.
“I’m here, honey.”
Lisa sighed to herself before she went over to her sister with the globe. Handing the object over to her sister, Lisa spoke the same thing again before continuing. “You said that if I turn this on and wish on the first star I see; my wish would come true.”
Michael nodded his head.
“Well, I wished for you and Andrea to understand each other better.”
Andrea narrowed her eyes at her sister while Michael stared at his youngest daughter with a small smile. “That’s a nice wish, honey, but you think a snow-globe did this to us?”
Andrea muffled her laughter while Michael tried to do the same. Yes, it was a stupid possibility but it could also be true.
“I’m not joking. I wished for you two to get along and then you came in my room. I accidently hit this and it fell.” Michael listened with interest even though he had been there when the globe had broken. He was the one that cleaned up all the glass pieces.
“I think it granted my wish after breaking like that.”
Andrea shook her head after letting out a snort. “A snow-globe can’t do that. That’s ridiculous, baby sister.”
“Oh my god, don’t every say that. That was so creepy.” Andrea frowned at herself as Michael shivered a little after hearing his own body say that.
“Point is, even if you did wish for that to someone, why would we have to change bodies? I mean, we could just magically start talking to each other better or something. That would’ve been more logical.”
Michael raised an eyebrow as he looked at Lisa, who looked down at her broken globe.
“You know what, since you believed our crazy situation, I’ll believe you too. I’ll go back to the place I bought this from and ask a few questions, okay?” Lisa looked up at Michael before she smiled.
Andrea sighed to herself. She had to go along with this too since she wanted to get back to her body quickly. She was starting to hate the weight of her father’s hands. It was difficult to move them around.
“Now, come on, the eggs are almost done, you can go get the toast out of the toaster.” Michael smiled at Lisa, who immediately obliged, while Andrea still sat at the island with a bored look on her face.
She was surely not used to cheery mornings. She didn’t know how her father could still be so positive even when he was currently an 18-year-old girl.
“Put in some more bread for Andrea too. She’s going to eat with us today.” Michael looked at his body from over his shoulder with a smile. Andrea squinted her eyes, not used to seeing herself smile so much.
She was a broody girl that didn’t really find anything to cheer up her mood, but here she was; seeing herself smile like that. It was way out of character.
Michael wasn’t even used to seeing himself frown so much. A huge part of why he still looked so youthful was because he tried to always cheer himself up, even when things weren’t going so well.
He had learned this life lesson from the very best – his late wife. She was the only one that had brought him some happiness in a life that was filled with stupidity and darkness.
Michael just didn’t know how to be just that for his oldest daughter. He had tried his very best to be a better father, and to even fulfil the role of a mother for Andrea, but fate was never on his side.
Andrea would always act out; he just didn’t know what to do.
But right here, as Andrea and Michael stared at each other, well more like, at themselves; they found each other no different from one another.
They were just coping, in different ways, that the both of them just didn’t understand.
