15. Crybabies

15. Crybabies

Jul 26, 2021

Michael had slammed the door open and was shocked to find himself weeping on the floor holding a large-ass flag close to his chest.

“What the heck?” Michael wasn’t sure what to think as he entered the office and closed the door behind him.

“What happened in here?” He questioned as he went to move the weeping man. He didn’t even like himself in such a vulnerable state. It reminded him of when his wife had died and it wasn’t such a pleasant memory.

“Andrea!” Michael tried to shake the man but it was all futile since Andrea kept crying. She was hurt and wanted nothing more than to just disappear. “What did you do to Olivia?”

It was as if she was brought back to life by the girl’s name as Andrea sat up and frowned. Michael looked at the puffy and red eyes before he sighed.

“Nothing! I could do nothing! She was just here, so close to me, and she thought I was disgusted by her!” Michael frowned when Andrea began to cry again.

“What are you talking about, did you do anything inappropriate to her or not?” Andrea shook her head with tears still falling from her eyes. “She was so beautiful, but so hurt. I wanted to comfort her, and tell her that I still loved her, but she wouldn’t understand. I’m not Andrea, that’s why!”

Michael frowned as he patted his own back.

This was all too much to take in as he sighed to himself.

At least, she didn’t do anything wrong to Olivia. That was at least somewhat comforting as Michael let himself cry into his jeans.

Now, Michael just had to take care of this crying old mess.

“It’s okay, honey.”

“It’s not okay! I’m so selfish! I never cared for what she felt, I just wanted her to be mine!”

Michael raised an eyebrow as he kept patting the man’s back.

“You’re not selfish, you just loved her too much.”

“I still love her too much!” Michael sighed as he nodded his head, listening to his daughter. There was just too much happening around him as he remembered the same feelings from Olivia when they were in the bathroom.

Those two crybabies still loved each other and yet didn’t let each other know of it. It was so sad and so funny at the same time.

“Why are you laughing?”

Michael looked down to see himself looking up with a frown. “Because you’re me and I’m you.”

Andrea snorted before she began to cry again with a nod of her head.

And another part of the snowflake disappeared.

…………………………………………………..

“What’s up with you?” Lisa questioned as soon as they were home. She could see the puffy red eyes as Michael shook his head. “She cried because she’s in my body.”

Lisa nodded her head as Andrea walked up the stairs without even saying anything.

“She looks like a zombie.”

“Eh, she’ll be okay. Today was just a hard day for her.”

Nodding her head, Lisa followed her sister’s body into the living room. “I’m gonna go get dinner ready, you can go freshen up, honey.”

Lisa smiled as Michael went into the kitchen.

Upstairs, Andrea just trudged to her own room, her room that had those band posters on her wall, and a small bathroom.

She went over to the bed that was so small for her huge frame, but she still tried to fit into it.

She felt so tired as she put her hand under her pillow and took out the picture she kept there. It was the same picture that Michael had in his box of an office.

The same one with all of them smiling widely, and with her mother still alive.

It was a picture she had never felt the need to see until that moment when she didn’t know what to do anymore.

She was just so tired of not being able to say what she wanted to say or to do what she wanted to do.

Today, she had seen Olivia so broken and she couldn’t do anything to stop her from breaking more. She remembered Olivia as she looked at the picture.

“Mom. Please tell me what to do.” Andrea cried as she sniffed. “You remember Olivia, right, she’s the pretty raven-head I introduced to you back when I started middle school.”

Lisa was passing by Andrea’s room when she saw the door open and a large body lying on Andrea’s small bed. She came a little over to the doorway and frowned when she heard what Andrea was talking about.

“I don’t know how to face her after that. I broke her, mom, I broke her. I just want to go back to how things were. I don’t want to be in dad’s body anymore.”

Lisa’s eyes softened as she looked at her father’s back, listening to words that her sister was speaking.

She felt a little hurt as she walked over to her room.

Even though Lisa was happy that her sister and father were back to talking to each other and listening to each other, but there was a part of her that wasn’t happy at the price of all of this.

She had never seen Andrea so desperate before, even when Olivia had dumped her.

This wasn’t something that Lisa could just push to the back of her head. She was sure that she would probably always remember the sight of her father’s body curled up in a bed smaller than his body.

This is all my fault.

……………………………………

“Andrea, honey, it’s dinner time.” Michael opened his own bedroom door before frowning when he didn’t find himself there.

Scratching his head, he walked over to Lisa’s room to call her down instead. “Lisa, honey, dinner time.”

He found the girl sitting on her desk writing something. Lisa jumped as soon as she heard her sister’s voice before turning around to look at the older girl.

Michael looked at his daughter with a frown before he repeated what he had said before. “Come on down for dinner, honey.”

Lisa nodded her head as Michael looked at the girl put away whatever she was writing in her desk drawer before getting up. She walked over to him before leaving the room to go downstairs.

There was only a second that Michael felt curiosity take over him before he shook his head and ignored whatever Lisa was doing before going over to Andrea’s room.

Maybe she was there.

And as Michael had suspected, the huge body laying on the bed was proof enough for him.

Sighing to himself, he went over to his body before shaking the body awake. He frowned when Andrea woke up with a groan and accidently threw something from her hand while stretching.

“Ugh, my neck hurts.” Michael quickly picked up the photograph that had fallen before he looked at his body.

“Dinner’s ready.” Andrea groaned again before she nodded her head. “I guess, food can only cheer my poor spirit up.”

Michael smiled sadly at his own body as Andrea trudged her way out of the room before going downstairs, while Michael remained in the room.

Looking down at his hand, Michael found a familiar photograph. One that he also had a copy of, and a smile came over his face as he looked at the wide smiles on his little family’s face.

He dearly missed his wife as he ran a thumb over his smiling wife’s face. She was so beautiful and so wonderful.

It was part of the reason why Michael had fallen head over heals for her. Because of her dazzling smile and because of her loving personality.

“I miss you so much sometimes, Amelia.”

And he really did. But he missed her at that moment the most because he didn’t know how to fix things. He was stuck in his oldest daughter’s body and she was stuck in his. He knew if she were there with them, she’d know what to do.

Maybe he was right.
