"Flora, are you sure that you saw him walk through fire unharmed?" a feline asked as he observed their target.
"You seem to doubt what I saw. Have I ever lied, Cryo?" Flora, a canine, answered Cryo, the feline.
"No," Cryo answered. "We need to talk to him. He might know where the other Aethers are."
"Might. That's the word you used. So you're also doubtful. Not only that, I doubt this world has even heard of an Aether," Flora answered. "I doubt he's mastered the art of fire. It may be that his power is appearing only now."
"Guys," a voice squeaked behind them. The two looked behind them. There was another of their companions who was a deer. "What are you talking about?" their deer companion asked. "Psyche. How did you find us?" Cryo asked. "Jeez. As if I can't sense things," Psyche answered. "It's good you came here, Psyche. Can you sense the power that one has?" Flora said, pointing to the Dalmatian canine from afar. "Let's see," Psyche said. She squinted for a second and focused on their target. Her eyes then widened. "A fire sorcerer?" she asked. "Wait. Wow," she said. "What is it, Psyche?" Cryo asked. "I see power like an aura of light. His light is... a beacon," Psyche said. "We need to report this to Miss Nyx." Cryo and Psyche nodded to each other.
They started walking away from the area. When they got far away enough, Cryo lifted his right hand and swiped the air. It revealed a door that lead to an unknown land. They walked right through. After walking through, the door closed and disappeared into thin air.
They continued walking further until they reached a camp. In the center of the camp was a tent bigger than the others. They walked to that tent and entered. Inside the tent was a woman. She wasn't Ani-man, rather she looked humanoid. She sat tall on the seat with her pitch black hair seemingly flowing in the wind when there was none at all. She was writing on a scroll when Cryo and his companions arrived. "Miss Nyx, we have something to..."
"We've searched everywhere on all of this land. Where are they? Where are they?" Nyx said to herself. "Miss Nyx, we have something to report," Flora said. Nyx lifted her eyes. "Oh. It's you three, what is it?" Nyx replied almost lifelessly. "We were on the other world, observing someone. We asked Psyche to sense how powerful our objective has and..."
"A Lux-given gift," Nyx replied. "He's so powerful, Miss Nyx!" Psyche said. "And what good will that do to us? We still have a legitimate amount of good soldiers here. What we need to do is find the others and most of all my brother! We were doing decent when they were here. We did worse when my brother disappeared. Now, the only ones left are me, Athena, Dionysus, Demeter, Eurydice, and Asclepius. Aethers of the night, war, parties, agriculture, music, and health. Chronos is useless because he's still in slumber. Lux had all the strategies. Thor could defend the outskirts of the other places. Even if we just find their remains that would be sufficient to at least have disclosure!"
"Miss Nyx, I know you're very powerful. But he's almost at... your level," Psyche said. Flora and Cryo took a step back, shocked at what Psyche said. Nyx lifted her widened eyes. "Power that reaches my level?" Nyx asked an angry tone. "The only one stronger than me is my brother. Are you sure of your observation and that you are not lying to me? You know what happens when one lies to me," Nyx said. "If you're lying, you're in charge of cleaning the Stygian stables and then Cerberus," Nyx said. "I am affirmative of it, Miss Nyx," Psyche said, not even trembling. Nyx stood up, tall and slightly angry. "If you want Miss, we can show you," Psyche said. Nyx squinted at Psyche. "I don't need you to show me. I know a liar when I see one," Nyx said, sitting down. "Observe that person further. If you want, test him. And maybe search the area in the other world. Maybe they're there," Nyx said. "Dismissed."
"Hey, Brit, I know that you're angry at him, but," Chief said to Brit who was drinking coffee. "Have you ever thought of... forgiving him?"
Brit stared at Chief with a raised brow. He saw Chief's concerned look at him. He knew his friend was being serious. He looked down. He didn't want to answer. Deep inside Brit, he was fighting himself. Does he want to forgive? Or is he just too afraid to do so? Is he even angry? Or is he sad? He doesn't seem to know. If he were to forgive, can he trust him again? If he were to ignore him, what good will it do? Every question leads to a questionable future. "I don't know," Brit whispered. "I don't know," he repeated. Chief looked at Brit's sad face. "So it's entered your mind prior, huh?" Chief asked. Brit looked at Chief. "You were already thinking of it?"
"Kinda..? I don't even know. It's like I want to forgive him. I think I'm just afraid, I guess? He had my trust before... he... I..." Brit stuttered. He sighed. "I really just... don't know if I'm ready to trust him."
"Tell you what. Let's get all of this done and cleaned for the day--" Chief motioned to their houses, "--and get you to talk to him the day after tomorrow, since we'll be going to the local fire department tomorrow, and get him to explain. How does that sound?"
Brit thought about it for a while. He was slightly hesitant, but finally he answered. "Sure."
"Good! Let's get to it. We have a lot of work to do," Chief answered. Brit nodded at Chief.
After their conversation, they started working on their houses. They checked their houses for fire hazards. They then checked for any broken things inside the house (although everything is near mint condition). They started cleaning their respective homes from any dust and cobwebs and grime. They made their homes as welcoming as possible. They also checked their attics for any antiques with memories from the past.
Chief and Pangaea found a few old clothes and a few old furniture. Some of the furniture moved a lot which gave the sign that they were on the brink of either breaking or collapsing completely. "Oh wow, look at this dresser. It's so... elegant," Pangaea said to Chief. He looked back and saw the dresser with intricate design. "That was my grandmother's. She passed recently. Try pushing it and see if it would sway back. If it doesn't, then we can put it in our room," Chief said. Pangaea pushed the dresser and it budged a bit. It didn't sway. Chief readied for a hefty task for him and Pangaea lifting up the dresser. Besides the dresser, nothing too interesting or nostalgic came to Chief's mind since he didn't have any memorable belongings or toys at all. He just borrowed from Brit and Cadmium when he was younger.
Brit found, meanwhile, stuffed toys and old clothes. Many of the clothes were just worn out or became too small for him. The toys were either broken or not used anymore. He did find something that gave nostalgic feelings: a bag with two sticks. The sticks were slightly thick about 7/8 of an inch in diameter. The length was at 28 inches long. A dark brown line spiraled the length of the stick. "My Kali sticks! I wonder if I still got moves," Brit smiled with his tail wagging. Brit took lessons in Kali when he was in high school. He got to the tournament and nearly won, only landing in 2nd place. However, he didn't join to win, but rather to learn. He took the sticks and spun it with his wrists. He strikes the air with both sticks. He then alternated the strikes. He stopped after a few strikes. "I might try it out more later," he said. He put the sticks back in the bag and threw the bag near the attic stairs. He kept on searching the attic for other things he could find to either keep or throw away.
Their cleaning service to their own homes lasted until dusk, only stopping for bathroom breaks and lunch. By the end of the day, they were nearly finished. Just a few more adjustments and a few garbage bags to throw away and they were done. By the next morning, they'd have to go to their new workplace.
As the sun finally set, Brit and Chief and Pangaea were done. Brit went to Chief's house after he was done. "Hey Chief, do you want anything to eat? I found out about a recent place here in Verdall. It's a pizza place. Do you want to come?" Brit said as he entered Chief's house. "Ooh! I'm down for pizza! How about you babe?" Pangaea said to Chief. "Do they have a delivery service? I'm still kinda worn out after lifting a dresser," Chief said. "Unfortunately, they don't. But how about I get there, see what they got, and call it to you over the phone? I'd have to borrow the car though," Brit suggested. Chief and Pangaea, both tired from moving furniture here and there, agreed to Brit's plan. Chief threw him the keys and Brit caught it flawlessly.
Brit proceeded to the car. He opened the car door and inserted the keys. He turned the keys and the car activated instantly. He started driving away to get the food they need.
