He flicked the lighter open and stared into the flame. He waited a bit, closed it and did it again. For once, he wasn't sitting on the ground. Keith was sitting on a metal bench in the middle of the city. There were many people around but so far he hadn't been recognised by any police. That didn't stop him from recognising other people though. When he was looking up, he made eye contact with Toga. He flicked his eyes back down to the lighter and he played with it again. She made her way through the crowd and slid next to him.

"Hey"

"Hey"

"What's on your mind"

"Dunno, how's it going with Hester?"

She heaved against the bench and leaned her head over the top.

"She's so annoying"

He huffed

"Is that how everyone else feels too"

"Yeah, I think so. She's trying to get us to abandon your idea or plan but hasn't made much progress with Axca in charge. Everytime she trys to say something in front of her, she gets shut down. So she's started calling meetings without Axca in them"

The lighter snapped shut and she turned her head towards him.

"And she called me out for being selfish."

He heard her chuckle and turned to look.

"She also said you were weak, but I'd like to see her 1v8 plus an angel"

He huffed and smiled.

"I'm actually surprised she's still alive with all that she's doing"

She sat up and grinned

"I can change that for you"

She spun a small dagger around her fingers. He shook his head and opened the lighter again.

"Not yet"

Her grin melted into a small frown as she watched him stare into the fire.

"You always play with fire when something's on your mind"

"I wonder why she wanted to join. She doesn't seem to know much about us"

"Yeah. She called you out for having police follow you all the time, when that's the whole point. Knowing where the leader is at all times and still failing to catch the Angel Killers makes it seem like we're too good, or they're too terrible."

"It's not like the rest of you guys are actually scared of the police, more like frustrated that you can't kill them"

She laughed and twirled her dagger again

"You got that right, but not being allowed won't stop me"

He slapped a hand over her eyes, ignoring all her protests.

"Don't get too impatient"

She whined 

"Aww come on, but that's like my speciality"

His grip loosened and she pulled his hand off her face. Her eyes flicked over but he wasn't looking at her or the lighter. She frowned and followed his gaze. Police. He turned to her and just started saying random words. She knew this plan and followed suit. Each pausing for the other's answer. This made it look like they were having a conversation and if anyone could lip read, they were talking fast enough that people wouldn't be able to keep up. They could both hear the footsteps getting closer but weren't fazed. Lance stopped about a meter away and they stopped talking to look up at him.

"I would like to ask you two a couple questions"

Keith froze Lance's feet to the ground and they both shot up and split off in different directions. Lance tried grabbing them both but Toga was too quick. He did manage to grab a hold of Keith's hood and pulled him back towards him as he melted the ground beneath his feet.

"Keith, what were you doing"

He bit his tongue and wouldn't turn around. Lance was back in his uniform, which meant he shouldn't be helping Keith.

"Where is she going"

"Like I would know. I was kicked out remember."

"What were you talking about"

Keith clenched his hand around the lighter and folded his arms.

"So stubborn.."

"Let go of me."

"Can't"

He pulled out his gun and shoved the barrel underneath Lance's chin.

"You think you can heal faster than a bullet travels? If it gets your brain it's game over."

Lance held onto Keith's hoodie with one hand and used his other to pull the gun away from him. He met a lot of resistance very quickly so instead grabbed the hand holding the gun and pulled it away. He was able to move it so he also tilted his head away from the gun. Keith pulled the trigger just as Lance pulled it to the side. The bullet flew towards an unsuspecting person. Lance saw this and reached his wing over to stop it. It buried itself near the edge of his wing and he winced. Keith was aiming the gun again but Lance spun him around and gripped his wrists. He tried to hang onto the gun but ended up dropping it due to the strain. They both saw it fall to the floor, Keith tried to swipe it back towards him but Lance stood on it.

"I suggest you listen to me if you don't want to be arrested. There are more police coming soon"

Keith glared but wouldn't look at him.

"Angels are given assignments. Mine was to help you. Someone else's is to disband the Angel Killers. They think the best way to do that is arrest you"

"Is that Asami's"

"No, but she at least wants to arrest you so that you stop killing angels"

With his head turned, most of his attention was on the surrounding area. He was searching for any signs of trouble. Keith saw someone looking in his direction. Their eyes flicked between him and Lance, before walking forward. Keith sucked in a breath and pulled on his grip. Lance looked over and recognised the person approaching. He let go of Keith's wrists and Keith moved backwards. His eyes flicked to the gun underneath Lance's foot. He wasn't letting it go so he just sprinted away. She got to Lance just as Keith dashed around the corner.

"Lance."

"Yes?"

"Helping criminals is illegal."

"Unfortunately for you, I have to"

"You are interfering with police work."

"Well I'm a police too"

"That doesn't mean you can do what you want. You still have to follow the law. You can either help with the disbanding of the Angel Killers, or back off. I won't tell you again."

"I'll think about it and get back to you"

"It had better be quick."

He huddled in a corner, staring at the wavering flame.

"It doesn't seem like you've fixed the problem"

He glared and looked up towards the voice.

"The hell do you want."

"You're being followed but you still met up with Toga. What happened if she was caught or someone followed her back?"

"I just sat there. It was her choice to come"

"The Angel Killers pretty much only listen to you, even though you're only 19"

"And?"

"Most of them won't listen to Axca and are waiting for you to return. I suggest you fix the police problem soon.

He rolled his eyes and looked back down at the flame. After a couple minutes he looked back up and she was gone. Keith heard thundering footsteps and before he could react a couple police entered the alleyway with their guns raised. He closed the lighter and automatically reached for his gun. He remembered that he left it and looked back up. Asami made her way to the front and he exhaled.

"You're being arrested."

His eyes wondered over the police's faces but she raised her wings to block his view. He flicked them back to hers but quickly dropped them to the ground. Keith raised his hands, one was open, one still clenched around the lighter.

"Open your hand"

He held it flat so that it wouldn't fall and peeled his fingers away from it. She walked forward and grabbed it. He tried to protest but she shot him a look which shut him up. Asami examined it before pocketing it. His hands were handcuffed and she dragged him up.

"We're taking you to the station. Don't make trouble for us"
