His fist lightly tapped on the door at the back and waited. Catra slid up to the door in her slippers and peaked it open. A hissed whisper escaped her mouth.
"Hawks. Do you know what time it is?"
"Yeah, I know. Sorry. But I need a favour"
Her eyes shifted from his face to Keith's and scowled. She started to close the door but it caught on his foot. "Please. Just this once"
"I am not letting him in here."
"What harm can he do if he's asleep"
"He's an Angel Killer. Surely if he's here, then more will be on their way"
"Not anymore. What the hell did you say to him."
"How is that my fault."
"When I mentioned it he said that after talking with you, it got him thinking"
"Right"
"And then when I asked what you said he told me not to worry about it"
"I asked him why he kills"
"Catra!"
She shrugged
"He said it had become a habit"
"Oh"

The door opened slightly more
"Just this once?"
"Promise"
She sighed and shook her head before swinging the door open fully.
"You're lucky it's winter. He would have gotten sick"
She stepped to the side and Hawks grinned.
"I thought you didn't care"
"Shut up."
She clicked the door shut.
"Everyone's sleeping."
She huffed and muttered to herself
"I would be too if a nightmare hadn't knocked on my door. No one should be up at these ungodly hours"
"Thank you, I owe you"
"You really do."

Keith peaked his eyes open because of the light and looked around. He was inside but nowhere he recognised. He pushed himself up to get a better look at the room but instead locked eyes with her.
"Catra?"
"Hawks blamed me for you quiting the killers"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't be here"
"It's just this once, it's fine"
"No, like, I really shouldn't. I am more of a target now than I was"
"Just 'cause you quit?"
"He knows that too!"
"Stupid bird."

A loud rumble filled their ears and she glanced towards the stairs. A second later the room shook and her arms stuck out for balance. After the room stilled she shot him a look but he seemed just as terrified as she felt.
"Stay here"
She ran up the stairs and disappeared from his sight.
Go help.
"Who?"
Your friends.
"But-"
So what. You're scared. Everyone else in this building is too, and if they just sat around there would be a lot more injured.
"I can't go anywhere without bad things happening"
Who says it has to be forever
"Who says it can change."
Why not you
"Because it's all I've known. I don't know how to help people."
Another rumble shook the room and his legs carried him out before he could stop them.

Rubble filled the room and panic bubbled up in his throat. The voice in his head was barely heard. Find Keigo. He took a step towards the stairs leading to lower levels but a gust of wind froze him in place He turned towards the broken window and walked over to it. He peared down but didn't see anything below. A ball dropped past him and he looked up. Two pairs of legs twisted wildly, kicking to find something stable. But all they found was the air. And then they were falling. Keith cried out and lunged to grab them. He caught a wrist and the other kid was left flailing. They caught onto the kid's foot and choked for breath.  The older one looked down at the sudden weight. Keith's hand went white against the window frame and it was all he could do to keep the kid's wrist in his hand.

"I didn't think you would do that."
He twisted his head around and saw Toga grinning and playing with a knife.
"Yeah"
He exhaled
"Me neither"
She stepped closer to him and his gaze flicked back towards the kids.
"Toga."
"What was more important than us."
She spun the blade around in her hand and came closer still.
"Killing had become a habit"
She scoffed
"Of course! But why should that be any reason to leave. Why did you suddenly get your morals back. After all this time of absent-minded killing."
"It wasn't just one event. Just the combination of everything that happened recently."
"Oh and what did happen."

She swung her blade to rest on his cheek
"Give up after you were arrested and beat up? Get memories brought back to you that should have pushed you further to fight for the Angel Killers? Talk to someone and they changed your mind about killing? Not hate all angels and it made you falter? Oh, maybe you saw your dad again and he promised to whisk you away to the land of unicorns, but only if you stop killing and become the angel he always wanted you to be."
"You can't kill me directly"
"Yeah, I sure as hell want to though."
She sliced his cheek as though it was as easy as butter. Keith's body tensed and his eyes shot back to look at her, just in time to see her ram the handle into his stomach. He stumbled towards the window and his hand loosened on the frame. She shoved him again and he fell out, his free arm flailing to catch something. His fingers just scrapped against the ridge on the floor and his momentum sent him slamming into the wall of concrete. He held his eyes shut as he felt the world spin. Toga slid her shoe against his fingers and they were pinched onto the ridge. He choked and snapped his eyes open. She was staring down at him, bloodlust making her eyes gleam.
"You never should have left."

She walked away from the window and his fingers slipped, not having enough strength to keep all three of them from falling. He reached for the wall but his hand swiped through air. He tried again and his fingertips made contact. Immediately he gripped it there and pulled his arm to match. It didn't stop them, instead slowed their fall, ripping Keith's skin away due to the friction. It stopped them from falling and left them swinging instead. All three gasped for breath, both kids crying. Keith turned his head towards the ground and swung his leg towards the wall. It connected and he let his arm come away. They both shrieked at the sudden drop and the arm that Keith could feel was shaking.

"Lower kid, let go"
He violently shook his head
"Look its not that far"
His eyes squeezed tighter and he shook his head again.
"Okay, just-. Stick your hand out and touch the wall"
He slowly pealed his arm away from his body and did what he said
"Okay. I'll keep your hand there until you want to move it and you can crawl down"
Getting through a lot of hesitation, it only took him a couple seconds to be on soild ground.
"Your turn"

Obediently he put his hand on the wall and Keith let go of his wrist. He manged his way down but hung about by the wall. Keith's head spun again and his vision blurred. The grip on him softened and he slipped. He landed on his feet and wobbled over and leaned against the wall.
"Go somewhere Catra has taken you before, like a park or something. No matter what you do, don't go back inside" He slowly pushed himself up and limped back towards the front side. Hawks landed in front of him and he barely managed to look up.
"Are you okay? I was looking for you"
"Mmm, fine"
Keith tried walking past him.
"Where are you going"
He kept stumbling forward
"Back inside"
"No"

He grabbed his arm, sending him through a dizzy spell again. He sharply inhaled and slammed his eyes shut. The pressure of his hand lifted away and he managed to peak his eyes open. Hawks was staring at his own hand before moving his gaze to Keith's arm. His eyes were wide and his mouth agape. When he spoke, his voice came out barely more than a whisper.
"What the hell happened..."
Keith used his left finger to track his previous movement down the side of the building.
"I fell"
"Keith!"
He winced and turned his head away.
"On purpose"
"You jumped!?"
He pointed behind the wall
"There are two boys there"
His eyelids closed and he struggled to open them again.
"Not injured I don't think, very shaken up though"
He turned back towards the front
"I need to get back inside"
"You've done enough"

His wing was brought up to disrupt Keith's path.
"Keigo"
"Please. Look after yourself now"
"They're only here because of me"
Keith didn't notice him step closer. Hawks ripped up strips of fabric and took time tying them around Keith's arm. "No, they came here out of choice"
"Yeah, the choice to hunt me down"
"Maybe but that doesn't mean you have to be all self sacrificing."
"I'm fine. I can still help"
"You can barely stand on your own and you can hardly keep your eyes open"
Keith head was turned towards the building, seeing phantoms in the windows.
"Keith, please"
"I can still..."
He stepped forward again but his leg couldn't support his weight and buckled. Hawks lunged and grabbed his arm, sending his head to spin faster. His eyes fell closed and he wasn't able to pry them apart from each other.
