He shot up gasping and choked. He sighed and brought his hand up to his head but it was slapped down. Keith sat frozen for a few moments before turning his head to the side. Someone with a short mass of hair was watching him cautiously.
"What."
"Ever since you fainted both of your physical powers have been out of control."
"So then why are you in here"
"I was the one appointed here"
"Appointed?...What is this place"
"Somewhere you are less likely to die"
"Less likely?"
"No place is absolutely certain, though you should be good as long as you don't piss me off"
"Where's Keigo?"
"Who?"
"Uh, Hawks?"
"Oh, so that's his name. He's not to be disturbed"
"What? What does that mean"
"It means that you can't go find him"
He sighed and finally focused on what they were doing. Wrapping a bandage around his arm.
"How long have I been out?"
"Finally! A question about yourself. I would say about three weeks"
"Three weeks?"
"Yup and these have to be redressed every 2 hours because you keep burning them"
"How?"
"With your power, how else. Man, it's like you just got it"
"My power?"
"Gosh, did fainting wipe your memories too. You can heat things up, to the point of burning"
"I can heat up my hands not anything else you just said"
"Then maybe you don't know the full extent of your power, if any at all. But, then again, they fluxuate with stress so maybe that's why you managed to set pretty much everything on fire"
"You know.. A lot. About powers."
"There are angel killers and there are angels. Both have powers"
"You're an angel."
"Well you never know, there are more angel killers outside your little group of..Whoever"
"Really?"
"Yeah, they just don't make is so blatantly obvious that they're out to get angels."
"You hate me"
They scoffed and rolled their eyes
"Yeah, I wonder why"
"I'm sorry?"
"Don't bother. You don't know why you're apologising so there's no point."
"I've probably done a lot of things I need to apologise for"
"Probably."
"Okay, what is your deal?"
Their eyes bore directly into his with so much anger he could practically feel it seeping off them in waves.
"I would punt you into the sun if I was allowed."
"Why aren't you allowed."
"Because Hawks literally told me 'don't kill him' before he retreated away to his hidy hole."
"Is he okay?"
Their eyes rolled
"Besides from being completely crazy, and having suffered everyone's wrath, I'd say he's pretty okay. Although it was a close call."
"Close call?"
"Yeah, there's like an echo in here and it's quite annoying so I'm gonna go."
"Hey, wait-"
"No one is happy with you being here, except for my moron of a brother. As soon as you can as much as walk without collapsing, I am kicking you out. You shouldn't be here."
"Okay where is here, exactly? And I didn't know he had siblings"
"Yeah not everyone went to that fucking orphanage."
"I didn't catch your name"
"What, you think being suspiciously polite with get me to forget everything you've done with that monstrous group you made?"
"I'm not a part of it anymore"
"I know. And I can't stand that you were just able to get out of that without any consequences."
"I'm being hunted."
"Well you're still alive! That's more than I can say for everyone you've killed! Do you even know how many people's lives you've taken."
"Ahh.. At least 15?"
Their eyes flew wild with fire and they marched up to him. They grabbed his arm and squeezed it, so hard that it would have hurt even if it hadn't previously been ripped open, and pulled him so that he was at their eye level. "143. 143 people. Old and young. Angel and human. Defenceless or not."
The grip on his arm made him dizzy. Black spots crept into his vision and he had to bite his tongue, drawing blood, so that he could focus on what they were saying and stop himself from pulling away.
"And that's only the people TV told us about. Whoopee. You saved 2 kids when you didn't have to. So many more have died to your hand. Hundreds have been seriously injured. Every single one of those families knows you killed their child, sibling or parent. But yet here you are. Most secure facility on the planet, cowering after someone tried and failed to take your life, with nothing more than a few scratches. No matter what you do from now on will not change that they see you as a monster. All those families did not get a chance to say goodbye to anyone you killed, and you can't even remember everyone that you have."
"Its not my fault I'm here."
"That's the only thing you heard! Unbelievable"
"I heard it all"
"So that's the only thing worth taking your time on. I cannot believe you. You killed my dad, my sister and you almost got my brother killed too."
Their grip tightened on his arm and he hissed and flinched back but he couldn't go far.
"No"
"You can't remember the amount of people you killed! What makes you think you can remember who you killed!" "How would you know who I killed"
I always had a hunch. I just wasn't sure until I met you. My sister was highly unskilled, being 9. But her age didn't matter to you. You just wanted her power. She would always hit her targets, be it a dart board bullseye or a sprinting rat. You didn't even want to power for the power. It was a stepping stone to get my dad's expert grip. He knew all the limits to his power. Its so much weaker with you but it feels the same. I saw you kill my sister right in front of me."
"You decided I wasn't interesting enough to even glance at. You killed her while you had me watch and the next thing I was aware of was my father dying. You didn't even bother to look at their faces when you sliced them down. You don't even remember the people they were, you only know their powers."
"It hurts every time I use the powers"
"Good"
They grabbed his collar and slammed his head into their knee. He didn't even realise it was happening before his nose made contact. His head felt dizzier than anything he had felt before. 'I hope you choke on your blood' was the last thing he heard before he fell into darkness.
