Yato the yakuza

Yato closed the door behind him and strode towards his desk.
"Hi, Yato!" Daijiro greeted as the other sat at the desk behind his.
"Hey." He heard the other respond much less loud.
While Yato started typing on his pc and signing some documents he had on his desk in silence, he heard a few minutes later: "Is everything alright? You look a little pale."
He looked up, and noticed that Daijiro was keeping an eye on him looking at him sideways every now and then, sipping some coffee.
"Ah yes, don't worry Daijiro." he reassured him: "I just had a rough night."
"Uh?" Daijiro turned with the plastic cup half full of coffee close to his lips. "Wanna talk about it?"
"Weren't you supposed to be working?" he blurted out.
"Mh, not really." and without waiting for an answer he turned his chair and walked over behind the other's desk, facing him, "I was just doing some tasks for next week because I not have much to do these days anymore."
Yato looked at him puzzled, but decided not to insist any further.
"I've been where you advised me." He admitted as the other was finishing sipping his coffee. He put on a perplexed expression, and when after a few seconds he realized what he meant, he spat out the little coffee he hadn't swallowed yet.
"Uh!?"
The other yakuzas closest to them turned in their direction.
Yato looked around uncomfortably, but luckily everyone soon went back to their computers without needing to give excuses.
"Keep your voice down or the conversation ends here." Yato snorted annoyed.
"Alright alright, sorry man." he whispered and then resumed enthusiastically, "But you gotta tell me what happened! You should be happy about it."
"Um, well..." he tried to explain tentatively.
"The place wasn't bad, but..."
"You didn't find anyone interesting?"
"No no, the boys were nice, but..."
"But not enough?"
"Stop interrupting me!"
"Eheh, sorry."
"I just felt... strange. And guilty." Yato exhaled starting to tap his fingers on the table in a rhythmic motion.
Daijiro noticed it, and his voice softened: "But you found someone interesting you said, right? What did go wrong?"
"Well, this boy approached me, alright? And he wanted to do it." Yato began.
"Well yeah, expected." Daijiro answered sarcastically.
"But seeing all those boys among older men made me feel deep disgust." Yato admitted. Not that he didn't expect it, but since Daijiro was his only friend he had met only when he became a yakuza, he knew he could trust him, and that the other genuinely trusted and enjoyed being with him.
"Well, welcome to a gay strip club then." The other blurted out, even though he had no intention of taking the speech superficially.
"I know, I just... I couldn't make it." Yato declared.
"So you dumped him?" Daijiro reassured him. "Don't worry, it can happen. It's normal."
"Oh no, I didn't." Yato denied it.
"You didn't?" He asked, genuinely interested and confused.
"I took him to my place." Yato almost whispered, hoping the other couldn't hear him.
"You- what!?" Daijiro instinctively pulled back, pressing his back against the seat, and raising an eyebrow.
"Isn't that normal?" The other asked, looking up.
"Not this! At least not if you're not going to fuck!" He looked around nervously. "What have you done to your place!?"
"We talked." He answered, calmly, as that was the most obvious answer.
"You... talked?" The other asked for confirmation.
"Yeah."
"About what?"
"About our lives, and stuff...", gesturing vaguely.
Daijiro jumped up slamming his hands on the desk: "You brought a stripper to your place and you chatted!? That's it!?"
More yakuzas than before turned in their direction, and Daijiro sat back down laughing nervously and apologizing among several "Shhhh!" in the distance.
Yato glared at him.
"He didn't mind. Ah, and I even offered him the money. But he refused it."
Daijiro chuckled: "Then you were lucky, not everyone is like that."
"Yes but... it was nice."
"Then those places are not for you; the strip clubs are full of sex addicts and hypocrites who would die for money. You go there if you want to fuck, don't have a happy chat."
"Then, what if I always go to the same boy?"
At those words, Daijiro tensed and became serious.
He put his hand on Yato's shoulder and said in a low voice, "You can't get attached, Yato. We can't afford it. Our job could be a problem for the people around us if they became recurring members of our life or discovered we are yakuzas. Don't go there anymore. Unlike many here, you can manage to survive even without sex."
Yato looked down, thinking about what Daijiro had said.
Meanwhile, the other resumed: "I know they can be strong images for an unaccustomed person, but those guys live on that and they don't bother anyone. In fact, I bet they even earn more than us. There is no need to empathize."
Yato didn't say anything; he didn't look convinced.
Daijiro continued, "Hardly anyone in this room has a date with the same person twice, let alone start a relationship, marry them or start a family. It's crazy. Sooner or later it is inevitable that they will find out. And you know what options a yakuza has. Either you let them go before they find out, or make them keep their mouth shut forever. And you know what I mean."
Yato shivered: "Maybe you're right."
On the other side of the room a distant voice could be heard: "Daijiro! The boss Abe is looking for you!" and the yakuza stood up, placing the chair back under his desk.
"Coming!" and turned one last time to dismiss Yato in a low voice.
"We'll meet for lunch, alright? See ya!"

Toshiaki was leaning on the edge of the bathtub, washing himself absently with a damp rag, until his cell phone placed near the sink rang.
He took it and, reading the name written with bright characters on the screen, replied: "Hi."
"The job as bartender? It's fine, I earn enough."
"What? Naoki? No, haven't seen him in a while."
"Mhmh, yes. I understand."
"No, I don't want to meet a girl now."
"What!? No I'm not gay or shit like that, you know it!"
"Yeah, yeah."
"Ok, then. Bye, dad."
