Akabar -- The name belonging to the dark realm that mirrors Solabar. It is filled with the power that fuels magic spells and the like. It contains shadow like copies of everything in Solabar except humans, human like creatures, and anything resembling man-made objects - Basically, a world untouched by humans. To make up for the lack of people, it is inhabited by all manner of mystical beasts that exist in the myths and legends of the people of Solabar.
Altereds: Shades or, more commonly humans, that have been severely changed through illegal experimentation.
Bond – A term referring to the link between a human and their shade. The link itself will awaken any latent powers or abilities the human might have. This combined with the shades’ tendency to choose humans with either supernatural powers or the potential for such power has given rise to the myth that bonding with a shade will grant a human special powers and abilities. However the link can only form between a willing shade and a human of their choosing. Many are those who seek a bond with and unwilling shade only to find their selves sent to an early grave.

The human maybe the master but the shade has the power to cancel the bond whenever it chooses. The bond can only be broken by either death or by the shade’s decision with consent from their master. Many are the masters who find themselves dead the next day due to an unhappy shade. The process defers between different types of shades. When a bond master dies, the bond they had shared with their shade can be automatically inherited by any blood relative of theirs with the shade’s consent.
Bondling – A formal term referring to a shade that has bound itself to a human. Can be used to show dislike for a bonded shade.

Dracoians: The dragon like creatures that rule Akabar.
E-Metas: Mutated life forms that arise from too much raw ether in the environment. Mainly animals, plants, and fungi for the most part with very few documented cases of human ones being recorded. Human mutations tend to be mentally unstable though and often end up going insane. They are also very powerful making them one of the most dangerous things in the Twin World universe.
Flare sickness – An illness cause by a dangerous “flare” in levels of magical energies within the human body. Beginning symptoms include: increase temperature and magical power, decrease in appetite and thirst and the physical need for food and water. As the disease progresses the severity of the symptoms increases until the inflicted fall into a coma in which they stay in until the buildup of magical energies kills them. It can be treated up until the inflicted fall into the coma after they do, treatment of any kind is useless. There is no cure.
Ignoglem(ig-nog-lem): A creature that is a mixture of raw ether, souls, and living flesh. They can be created by a sudden explosion of raw ether or a certain mutation. They can only live and exist in places with exceptionally high ether levels in Soladar. They have the ability to absorb other living creatures on contact and grow stronger with each newly acquired soul. They are fairly weak physically but their abilities and their immunity to spells make them very hard to kill. They are, however, very weak to silver and its alloys, especially electrum and can also be easily devoured by soul eater type demons.
Old Town: The abandoned remains of the Ether Collection City Tortuga that was nearly destroyed by the Draconians during their first attack. This attack was stopped before the entire city was destroyed by them by Miranda's Mother who was a Shade Speaker. It is because of her efforts that the majority of the people of Tortuga survived that day. After the War was over, the people of Tortuga tried to rebuild the city with mixed results. Many people gave up and moved on while many others, who had nowhere else to go, remained behind. Now its crumbling remains are the rambling slums of Sol City which was built around it to replace it.
Rifts – The large areas in Solabar where the two worlds overlap. The rifts occupy the same areas in Solabar as the floating islands do in Akabar.
Shade: Any creature or plant native to Akabar.
Solabar: The world of the humans. It's more scientifically based and technologically advance than Akabar.
Sol City: The Ether Collection City built on the remains of Tortuga to more or less to replace it. It is a now a "shining example" of a modern day Ether fueled City or so the Sol tourism board says. They're mostly right and with constant flow of processed ether and ether made goods going out and various consumables and materials coming in, it is also a bustling center of trade. Not all of which is necessarily 100% legal.
Summons: Summons work by either creating a summoning circle with ether/mana(an advance technique that uses a crap load of power) or drawing said circle using special ink or chalk and then infusing it with power to call forth the summoned creature that's tied to you. After being summoned, the creature needs a constant supply of ether/mana from their summoner with a few exceptions. Being cut off from the supply is generally how summoned creatures are unsummoned although there are less benign ways/reasons for it to happen.
Summoner: Someone capable of using magic to summon forth a creature. Natural born Summoners are more powerful than ones that have learned the skill and tend to have more than one summon able creature. Natural Summoners are also very rare with the potential to learn various other magics. This makes them very valuable target for unsavory individuals and it wouldn't be unusual for them to have a body guard or something similar.
Shifter: A catch all term for anyone who can shape shift. This skill can range from just being able to change the color of their eyes to being able to change into umpteen different animals. Shapeshifting is the most common of all abilities with one in ten being able to use it to some degree. People or creatures being able to change into inanimate objects is super rare.
The Edge: The part of the slums in Tortagu that's the closest to the Rift. This is also where Miranda grew up and still currently lives.
Were: A term used for any Shifter with a human and single animal form.
