Chapter 4

When I looked up, I was surprised because of the person that was in front of me. Soon after, I smiled at her. It was good to meet again.
'Little one! -I said- Come here. Don't be afraid!'
She looked up at my extended hand than placed her hands in mine. We then started walking towards our destination together.

'Young one. -Amber said as she put her mask on.- This will be the last time I ask. -she turned half around and looked at Christian seriously.- They have guns, we haven't. It's possible we'll die. You don't need to come. But if you're persistent, I won't hold you back.'

Christian looked at her and smiled mischievously.
'You're not persuasive enough. -he said.- I've been with you fora few months and think this is also MY business. Why shouldn't I come?'

'Pfft!' -Amber laughed. -'You brat, you're even speaking back now!'
Fine. -she looked at him smiling.- Come.'
Amber extended her hand to give a black mask to the young boy.

'Then let's get going!' -the young heroine said and they steppes out of the door neither of them knowing wether they'll return here ever again.

It was a quiet morning. No stray soul on the streets. Everything was silent and eerie with the mist that manteled the town.
Then gradually you could hear footsteps. Nor slow neither hurried.
Step,
step.
It was a girl.

She covered her face with a black mask giving a slightly mysterious feeling to her image. She had black hair tied up to a ponytail, black, dead eyes and white, tattood skin on one arm. It was clearly winter however dressed in a skirt and a sleeveless shirt it was like she didn't feel the cold.
Like her heart was frozen long ago.

She walked down the quiet street with a baseball bat. When you looked behind her, you could discover a young boy similar to the girl's age. He wore a simple T-shirt and jeans while there was a first-aid kit and the Bible in his hands. One didn't know why he brought the holy book with him but it strangly didn't ruin the mood of this picture. However seeing the two of them side-by-side WAS odd because their temperament was absolutely different one couldn't guess where and how they became acquaintances.

Suddenly the girl looked up. They were in front of a house -most propably a wealthy person lived in there- and stared at the luxuriously carved peonies on door.
Amber sneered.
Yes, this is the one. Those ridiculously expansive designs. Hmmm~
10 years ago it didn't look like this. So? Who's money did her uncle steal? That b*stard.

Amber lifted up her leg and kicked the door open. Some part even even ripped upon. She looked around satisfied.
However her gaze shifted to the left the next moment. An unfamiliar man holding a glass piece wanted to stab her neck but she caught it with her bat. They started to fight.
As she fought she sneered in her heart.
Yeah, it's so like him. Luring in the dark, making other people do the dirty job and wait for the results.
Well, today, he'll got his results but we'll see wether he'll have the leisure time to enjoy it!!

She got some bruises after the fight but didn't really care about it. Why would she?

She looked right and got to witness the young boy's awkward expression.
'Young one.- she said.- Are you scared? If you're, then go home. Now. I can handle my uncle alone.'
You don't have to die.- she added in thought.

The boy however smiled.
'You don't need to worry, it's fine.- he reassured the heroine.-And even if you handle your 2nd uncle, who'll handle your wounds?'

Amber sighed and smiled hearing this. It was cute.
'Fine.- she said.- It was quite unpolite from uncle not to come and greet us. The only possibility now is WE'll go and see him.'
'Do you know where he is?' -he asked.
'He's my "relative", of course I know. -Amber smirked.- Have you ever heard the saying: 'the most dangerous place is the safest'? That person thinks like this. That means he must be-'

The heroine couldn't finish because she was SHOT!
The boy panicked and shouted 'HEROINE!'

However the result wasn't what one person in the room expected.
Amber's tied up hair fell down to her shoulders and she removed her mask. She smiled creepily at the person in front of her.

'Long time no see, uncle!'

She picked up her baseball bat and said looking very comfortable and calm:
'As always, you're a disappointment with your sneak attacks.'

The man in the armchair smiled.
'Am I?' -he asked.
It was a very ominous scene. The man looked like he was in his 50s. He however dressed quite simply but luxuriously: a silk hat with blood-red silk ribbon on it. He had a grey vest with a white shirt and trousers. He was sitting in a red armchair holding a gun that was still smoking. It was crystal clear where the bullet originated from.

Amber smirked at him.
'Being old isn't your cup of tea, you look ridiculous. -she said.- But I hope you don't have a terminal illness because...

I defenitely want to be the one who kills you!

Hearing this, the man smiled.
'After not seeing for 10 years you became a deviant? If your parents have seen this...'
He couldn't finish his sentence because of a knife thrown at his face. He only managed to avoid it by milimeters.

'Know your place!' -Amber declared coolly. -My family isn't something you can mention.'
After saying these shesmiled again and grabbed her bat, lifting the man's head up.

'Ayhh, this niece is reluctant to part with you and let you die swiftly. It would be too easy. This niece is afraid if one doesn't act fast, you'll die before one eventually could get revenge. It'd be a pity and this niece'd regret it till the end of one's life.'

The old man smiled.
'I bet you would. It's just a pity you cannot do that.'
SURROUNDER! -he shouted... and pointed his gun at Amber's face. However he didn't shoot. At the same time the heroine also pointed her bat at him and smirked.

'Huh, what a joke! -she mocked.- If I don't surrounder, you'll not KILL me?
A life provided by you... I DON'T WANT IT!'

She suddenly reached for her knife that was penetrated in the armchair, dragged it out and pierced it close to her uncle's heart.
This happened in just seconds that the man didn't even have time to react. When he finally got hold of himself, he was stabbed with a knife.
'You...!' -he wanted to curse feeling his blood rushing out and beeing more and more out of power. He could barely stand. He collapsed the next second his fear of death clearly written on his wrinkled face.

Amber felt disgusted.
That was her uncle she feared for years? This weakling right in front?
So, so pathetic.

'Young one, we're going home.' -she turned around to left.
But suddenly...
'We're... not... OVER!' -the man crawling on the floor ponted his gun at the girl!

The young boy and girl were shocked!
However the boy reacted faster.

He jumped in front of the heroine to block the bullet with his body but... he was pushed away so the bullet hit... the heroine.

Christian was shocked. Disbelief, fear, anger and sadness swirled in him.
'He... roin... HEROIN!!!'
He caught the girl in time before she could collapse to the ground. He was clearly panicking.

'The first-aid kit... I have to-'
'Young one. It's a gun-shot wound. Only a first-aid kit... will not be enough.' -she said while gasping for air.
'Are you CRAZY?! Why did you do this? -Christian shouted.

However Amber was perfectly calm.
She smiled genuinely this time.
In her eyes the young boy was much more worthy to live. So she jumped. Although maybe it was because he was the first one after her family to protect her with their lives. She can't just do nothing, right? That would mean she killed her savior. And she would became even soulless then she is presently.
These were her reasons.
But at that critical time she actually didn't think at all.

However he doesn't have to know this.

'You're being funny.- Amber said.- Didn't you just... jump before me? Why did YOU do.. this?'

Christian didn't want to let show his tears that threatened with flowing out.
'Young one... -Amber continued.- Do not... blame... yourself. I was long... prepaired for this. Even if I live.. I'll be still... dead... inside... Do you want... to see me... like that?'-she gasped for air but still managed to speak. Because of her WILL to do so. However she overstrained herself in the end.

'Then will you leave me behind? -asked Christian desperately.- If you go now, all your efforts will go in vain!'
'Young one. -the heroine smiled at him, tears flowing from her black eyes.- I'm going to... see them.. again. Nothing will be... in... vain.......'

Christian covered his eyes.
He knew.
The heroine who saved him just a few months ago was gone like this.

Suddenly one could see a butterfly flying their direction. The insect flew towards Amber and landed on her lips. At that moment it was like time stopped and the dark mood that lingered around them for a very long time was now lifted.
The butterfly flew away like it was carrying a departing soul.

'Young one.- I thought.- Although I don't know why did you stay with me, I'm really greatful. You have to stay true to yourself. Don't be someone like me. There're countless farewells in this world, ours is just one of them. I hope you'll live the fullest and become happy. Goodbye... young one.'

When I looked up, I was surprised because of the person that was in front of me. Soon after, I smiled at her. It was good to meet again.
'Little one! -I said- Come here. Don't be afraid!'
It was my 12-year-old self.
She looked up at my extended hand than placed her hands in mine. We then started walking towards our destination together. That was a large gate. As we walked closer it opened suddenly. Behind the door, my family smiling at me.
I was shocked at one moment, tears rushed to my eyes the next and befor I could blink, my mum already ran towards me crying her heart out. We hugged each other.
It has been 10 years.

My brother was the same as ever: he never once was a sentimental soul and he rubbed my hair with his hand smiling ear-to-ear saying: 'Sis, you're back!'
At the same time my father was looking at us like we were idiots.

Mum patted my head like she would do it in the past and said smiling: 'You did well.'

And just like this, my revengeful life was over.
