Then he felt Saku’s hand on his thigh and reason suddenly went right out the window.

“Are you ok, Suzu-kun? You’re gripping the wheel awfully hard.”

Suzu could only focus on the hand resting on his thigh now, feeling dizzy at the contact. He wanted to reach down and grab it, to feel Saku’s hand in his once more. 

“I just—it’s just the weather.”

“Oh yeah, it is getting pretty nasty out. If I’m distracting you, just let me know. I can always put my headphones in.”

“No!” Suzu cringed at how quickly he reacted at that, “I mean, you’re fine. Keep talking… please.” 

Saku chuckled lightly, “Alright but remember that you made that request when I’m driving you crazy with my ramblings.” 

“You could never.” 

So, Saku talked as requested. And Suzu enjoyed every single moment. He eagerly listened as Saku shared stories about culinary school, about how his twin sister, Sakura, was doing. He told little anecdotes of things he did at school, of his travels, the time he spent in France for his internship. Suzu was getting to hear about everything he missed, he was getting to know Saku all over again. 

But he yearned to know even more. To hear everything. He could tell there were things Saku stopped himself from saying, there were moments where Saku remembered something that hurt him, and he would quiet down for a moment. Then, he’d change the subject and talk about something completely different. It left Suzu curious and wanting. 

“…and then Sakura, swear to god, she looks me dead in the eyes and just says ‘run’.”

“Did you?”

“As fast as I fucking could. You know how she is! She hasn’t changed,” Saku said, laughing.

Suzu smiled but then he was suddenly gripping the wheel again, struggling to steady the vehicle as the wind tried to push them over into another lane. The rain had picked up, going from a heavy downpour to a torrential one. It was hard to see anything ahead of them but they were still at least two hours from the station. He couldn’t stop, he couldn’t waste any more time. 

But then Saku’s voice broke his thoughts. 

“Suzu… maybe we should pull over. It’s getting dangerous out there,” his voice was nervous, shaking slightly.

Of course, Saku had always been so scared of storms and water. This must have been a nightmare for him. 

Suzu glanced over to see that the other had paled and was looking nervously out the windows. 

“You’re right, I’ll pull up over here.”

He found a turn-off point and then put the car in park, finally relaxing his grip on the wheel. 

“God, this is insane,” he said, resting his forehead on the wheel and sighing.

Then, he felt something against him and one glance told him that Saku was leaning against him, his eyes shut.

“Ugh, it’s been like forever since I closed my eyes.”

“You know, you could have been sleeping this entire time.”

Saku gave a small shrug, “I suppose. But then you would have been left alone with your thoughts and I figured you could use a break from that.”

Suzu felt his heart flutter; that was so thoughtful. But also completely and utterly confusing. 

“Saku why… why are you being like this?”
