“So...are you ready to go?” Treyvon awkwardly asked even though Sam was already sitting in the passenger seat of his car. Sam just nodded his head once again and then smiled shyly once he realised that he should act a little more warmly towards the guy that was going so out of his way for him.
Treyvon seemed to appreciate his efforts though and returned Sam’s shy smile with one of his own blinding ones. Sam couldn’t help but notice how bright Treyvon’s teeth were, just another thing that was perfect about the golden boy. Sam couldn’t even be mad at Treyvon because it’s not like he acted like he was better than everyone else even if he definitely was. It was admirable in Sam’s eyes.
“Thank you” Sam finally uttered to Treyvon despite his embarrassment when Treyvon opened his door for him when they got to the library. It was just a kind gesture, it’s not like it meant anything so Sam wasn’t sure why he was so flustered by it. Treyvon was surprised by the tiny voice, but didn’t let it show. Instead he just gleamed and internally recognized that Sam’s voice was just as adorable as the rest of him.
The two of them found a nice spot towards the back of the library where they hopefully wouldn’t bother anyone with their talking, or rather Treyvon’s talking. Sam pulled out his textbook and placed it between the two of them which Treyvon appreciated as it has been a while since he took Algebra.
“I don’t really know where to get started, how about we just work on today’s homework to start with, and we can figure it out some other time.” Treyvon offered and Sam agreed, opening up his backpack to pull out his homework, “Wow, you’re so organised. I mostly just shove all of my papers in the front of my notebook for each class”
“I like having lots of cute folders” Sam blushed after he admitted his love for cute school supplies.
“Yeah my sister is like that too. My mom always buys her school supplies with this little weird egg thing on it. I don’t know what it is, but she loves that little thing” Treyvon didn’t make fun of him for his love of school supplies which surprised Sam. His sister would always make fun of him for liking these kinds of things.
“This egg?” Sam asked quietly while he pulled out one of his gudetama pens.
Treyvon’s eyes lit up in recognition, “Yes! That’s exactly the one. In fact it looks like one of the ones that she wanted, but they sold out. She practically cried. I didn’t really understand, but apparently it was some limited edition one”
Sam didn’t know why, but he felt a little guilty. He didn’t even really like Gudetama, he just bought it because he couldn’t find any other cute pens at his usual store that he didn’t have already.
“Here” Sam gently put the pen in Treyvon’s much bigger hand. Treyvon looked at Sam confused as to why he was giving him the pen, “for your sister”
“What? No, I wasn’t saying all that so you would give it to her. She’s in college, not some little girl, she’ll get over it” Treyvon tried to give it back to Sam, but he refused.
“That’s a gift for you helping me” Sam thought up this excuse expertly, and luckily Treyvon hesitantly accepted after failing at giving back the pen multiple more times.
“You’re too sweet Sam. Okay let’s get started then” Together the two of them worked in silence except for the occasional times where Sam would tap Treyvon to ask for help explaining a concept. Sam had finished his homework faster than he had ever done before, and even felt confident in doing some of the problems himself which was a much bigger improvement from before.

Treyvon and Sam repeated this over and over again for the next two weeks and Treyvon felt like he could confidently call Sam his friend. As his friend, Treyvon decided that it was time that Sam received his very own nickname. Unfortunately Treyvon suffered from unoriginality and Sam’s nickname was simply Sammie. Treyvon made sure to call him that whenever he got the chance because for whatever reason it made him really happy to see the blush that took over Sam’s face whenever he did. Treyvon also learned that Sam was a lot less shy over text, and that Sam was actually really easy to get along with once you got over the fact that he was deathly shy.
Treyvon had just returned home from tutoring Sam and was surprised when he heard the familiar shrill voice of his older sister, Tamara. Tamara was only going to the local university so she could technically live at home, but as a junior she and a few of her friends decided to rent an apartment this year together. It was weird not having her at home, but she came home at least once a week so it wasn’t like he really had the chance to even miss her.
“Where have you been?” Tamara questioned me after giving him a quick hug. She wasn’t nearly as tall as him, but she was still pretty tall at 6’0.
“Tutoring, now get off me. I’m hungry” he tried to escape from her, but she just followed him.
“Oh yeah momma told me about that, something about a boy who’s blonde. I’m not really sure why that was important, but…” Tamara shrugged and I tried really hard not to blush. It’s been two weeks and his momma is still teasing him for that.
“Why are you questioning me? Where were you this past two weeks? Why didn’t you come over. I have something to give you” Her eyes lit up at the sound of a gift because as Treyvon would say she’s greedy.
“Me and some of the girls went out of town one week and I was just really busy at work, trying to make up the time the other. Why? You missed me? Also I’m interested in this gift” She clapped her hands together excitedly.
“It’s not from me, it’s from Sammie” He tried to explain, but she cut him off.
“Who?”
“If you would listen, Sammie is the guy that I’m tutoring, and he’s really nice so he told me to give this to you after I mentioned you liked it” Treyvon pulled the pen out of his backpack pocket where he had been keeping the pen safe.
Treyvon winced and put his hands over his ears as Tamara screamed in glee, “Oh my god! Are you kidding me?! Why would he give this away? He’s crazy”
She held the pen to her chest as if it was her most prized possession, “I don’t know. He said that you would probably appreciate it more than he would. Also he’s not crazy. I think he’s really sweet”
“I didn’t mean it like that, you dolt. I meant that I would never let anyone have this. I’m so happy. Tell him I said thank you. Look I even just did my nails with Gudetama on them. He’s just such a mood” Tamara flashed her extremely long nails at me. Tamara is a nail technician at one of the nail salons in town and she’s hoping to have her own one day.
“Here let me take a pic” Treyvon told his sister who agreed.
“Okay make sure to include my wonderful nail art” Treyvon rolled his eyes, but did what his sister said, “Send that to me too”
After sending the picture to his sister, Treyvon sent it to Sammie who he was taking the picture for anyway.
-My sister says thank you and that she loves the pen. She practically screamed my ears to death at the sight of it.
Soon after he got a response from Sam
-°˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° I’m so glad she likes it
Sam always does these cool little emoticons things when he texts and they never fail to make Treyvon jealous of his superior texting skills. Sam will never willingly tell him that it’s part of a keyboard that he downloaded on his phone.
-This reminds me of you bc its cute. (Image attached)
Treyvon was unaware of the absolute panic that he instilled in Sam due to his text. Sam knew that Treyvon wasn’t flirting and was just super honest and blunt, but the things that Treyvon often said to him never failed to make him blush. He just decided to respond normally.
-OMG! Boris! I know exactly who that bear is. I’ve watched all the videos about him. I am Boris’ biggest fan! ( ¨̮ )
Treyvon smiled at Sam’s response. He knew that Sam would appreciate the picture. Sam adores all things that are cute and it’s like the only thing that he isn’t afraid to voice his opinion about after admitting his love for cute school supplies.
Despite wanting to talk more to Sam even though he just saw the boy, he couldn’t after his momma yelled at him for using his phone at the dinner table. One day Treyvon would get Sam to express his excitement in person, mark his words.
⯀
Treyvon who was usually pretty good at staying composed was getting unusually antsy. Sam looked at him curiously as he kept bumping the table with his legs as he bounced them due to them being too long to fit under the table properly.
“Sorry. Hey do you want to go do something else? It seems like you get this concept now and it’s Friday, and I just ate a bunch of candy, and now I’m rambling, and you’re just staring at me like I’m an idiot, and I should probably shut up now” Treyvon kept on talking not letting the other boy answer
Sam just giggled and nodded, “Sure”
Treyvon internally melted at the sound of Sammie’s giggle. Why was he so precious? Tamara would definitely try to steal him if she ever met them, so they could never meet.
“Wait...you said yes? Okay great! Let’s get out of here!” Treyvon jumped up and grabbed both of their backpacks and practically dragged Sam out of the library.
“Where are we going?” Sam asked as Treyvon shoved him into the car and buckled him up like a child which he blushed at.
“The park!” Sam was a little confused about why they would be going to the park, but he didn’t question it. Treyvon seemed pretty excited and he didn’t want to be a Debbie downer.
It was still pretty sunny outside despite it being 5:45 which meant that there were still quite a lot of people at the park. The swings however were vacant and Sam sent them a longing look. Treyvon however had other plans than going on the swings and pulled a basketball out of his trunk. Sam saw where this was going and quickly started to shake his head and run away.
“Hey! Where do you think you’re going, Sammie?” Treyvon quickly caught Sam and dragged him to the court.
“No”Sam meekly shouted trying to escape Treyvon’s grip, only to pout when he realised that his efforts were in vain. He would have just stayed at the library if he knew that Treyvon was going to make him play basketball.
“Come on, Sammie. Just shoot some hoops with me. Please” Treyvon begged Sam who gave in easily. Sam was easy to walk all over if someone really wanted to, not that Treyvon was trying to take advantage of him.
“Fine” Same crossed his arms. Treyvon decided to start showing off his dribbling skills and started doing all these fancy moves dribbling the ball between his legs. All the movements made Sam stare in awe but they also made him kind of dizzy. Also very insecure with his less than bad skills.
“I’m just messing with you, Sammie. Don’t pout. Here show me your skills” Treyvon bounce-passed the ball to Sam who jumped in fright before catching the ball at the last minute very ungracefully. Treyvon held back a laugh as he thought that it wouldn’t be very beneficial at the moment.
Sam attempted to dribble but it was so bad that Treyvon couldn’t help but chuckle. Sam blushed and quickly stopped his attempt. It was so bad. Sam looked at Treyvon with sad eyes that made his heart break. Treyvon showed Sam some tips and soon he was dribbling much better than before, it still wasn’t that great but definitely way better than before.
“Don’t smack the ball with the palm of your hand. Push the ball down with your finger tips and let it come back up before pushing it back down again the exact same way as before. Okay now pass me the ball. Here, do a chest pass. If you follow through properly both of your thumbs should be facing down whilst your hands are facing away from each other” Sam attempted the chest pass and smiled in glee when despite it being a little weak was an actual good pass.
“I did it!” Sam smiled and hugged Treyvon and was about to freak out when he realised what he did, but Treyvon just laughed and squeezed him tight.
“You did! I knew you had it in you, Sammie. Darius might want to watch out, you might just take his position as the starting point guard” Sam had no clue what a point guard was, but he gladly accepted the praise from Treyvon.
“Thanks” Sam squirmed out of Treyvon’s grip and stole the ball from him.
“Okay now how about your shot? You got a good arm, Sammie?” If Treyvon thought that his dribble was funny then he would find Sammie’s shooting ability absolutely hilarious.
Sam shook his head rapidly. He attempted a shot when Treyvon shot him a reassuring smile, urging him to give it a shot. Sam glared at Treyvon when the boy called out “Airball!” when he completely missed the hoop.
“Not funny” Sam scolded Treyvon who held his arms up trying to plead innocence.
“It was a little funny,” Sammie glared at him again and he conceded, “Okay, not funny”
“Hmph” Sam pouted as Treyvon rebounded the ball and easily made a three pointer.
“Come here, Sammie. Hold the ball like this in your dominant hand. Your nondominant hand shouldn’t really hold the ball, it’s just there to guide the ball when you shoot it. Since you’re so short don’t forget to use your legs and jump in order to drive the ball farther. You have to follow through just like when you pass, but this time it’s just your shooting hand, and it almost forms a pointing motion” Treyvon demonstrated the motion for Sam, and he tried to copy it to the best of his ability. He still missed but it was a much better looking shot than before.
After a couple more shots, Sam pulled Treyvon over to the swings and together they enjoyed swinging like little kids again. Sam laughed in amusement when Treyvon’s legs kept preventing him from having a nice time swinging. Treyvon couldn’t have an easy time at everything.
“How come I’ve never seen you around before? You’re a sophomore aren’t you?” Treyvon looked at the younger boy questioningly.
Sam shrugged in response to the first question, but rescinded, “Yes” to the second.
“Cool. Do you know my brother, Jeremiah? He’s a freshman this year” Sam shook his head as the name didn’t seem familiar, “Yeah I wouldn’t want to know that punk either. So do you have any siblings?”
Sam nodded, “Emily” .
Treyvon wracked his brain trying to think of all of the Emily’s he knew. Sam’s last name was Olsen...wait Emily Olsen!
“Emily Olsen is your sister! You guys do not look like each other at all. She’s actually tall, well I mean not compared to me, but still” Sam pinched Treyvon’s arm, “Ouch! Okay fine, I was being mean, but that really hurt”
It didn’t hurt Treyvon at all, he just wanted Sam to be nice to him again. He couldn’t believe that Sam’s sister was Emily, one of the most loud and outgoing people on the cheer team. Sam was just so cute and quiet, and Emily was just so...Emily.
Treyvon’s momma didn’t fail to notice the smile that her son has been sporting after he comes home every night. Treyvon has always been a smiley boy, but for some reason he’s been extra smiley lately.
