Chapter 6:

The next day after school, Anna and Devin had both gone to Seoul forest to meet up there. “Hey, so what was it that you were going to tell me?” asked Anna and Devin said together. “Wait, you can go first,” Anna and Devin both said together again. “No it’s fine, you can go first,” Anna said. “Okay sure, there was something I was going to tell you that I never knew until I found out today,” Devin said. “I like you”. Anna was shocked, she didn’t know what to say. After that she heard something. She heard someone saying “Don’t do it, you will regret it”. She saw Devin’s face and with fear in her eyes she ran away without saying anything. Right then she remembered what had happened that night. 

The next day at school, Anna had not shown up and Devin was confused about what had happened. He did not know what happened yesterday and why she ran without saying anything and why she had not shown up to school that day. Devin had decided that he would go to Anna’s house and check on her and ask her what happened.

After school, he went to her house and rang the doorbell. He tried peeking out the window to see if anyone was inside but he saw nothing. Just then, the door opened, he saw Anna, she did not look so good. She was tired, scared and she barely opened the door for Devin to come in. “Hey, is there something wrong, what happened?” Devin said. “Can you at least open the door for me to come in?” Devin said. She then opened the door and stood there with a dull look on her face. “Hey can you tell me what happened and why you are acting so weird?” Devin asked. “What do you mean, I am fine, I was just not feeling well.” Anna said. “Then why did you run away yesterday...what happened then?” asked Devin. “Oh well it was just a bit cold so I left.” lied Anna. Devin knew she was lying so he just waited until she just told him the truth on her own. It took her some time to say it but when she did, she did everything to not make the same mistake again.

“I knew I should have told you this before but I was scared that you would leave me,” Anna said. “What do you mean?'' Why would I leave you, I would never do that even if that was the last thing I do.” said Devin. “Do you really want to know what happened?” Asked Anna. “Well yeah,” Devin said. “Okay fine, I was in Australia as a kid, I was raised there. One day I was in school and a strange man came up to me and asked me “Do you wish that everyone you love would be at peace?”. I was still a child so I didn’t know what he meant at that time but I accepted it and then he said that my wish would be granted on my 10th birthday. 

When I turned 10, strange things started happening, not just strange things, but life threatening things. It wasn’t to me though, it was to my parents. Once, when my parents went out to go shopping, the shop caught on fire but luckily they came out with only a couple of injuries but were safe. Another time when they were going out, they were in a car accident and again they were lucky enough just to get a couple of injuries. They started to wonder why they were having life threatening problems and how they are not safe. They came to realize that all of this started to happen the day I was 10. They had asked me if anything unusual happened on my birthday or even before that but I didn’t remember anything and so I said no. 

That night when I was in my room, I heard a scream from my parents yelling,“HELP!”. I thought that I would go check on them but when I went in there there was a lot of smoke and when I saw them, they were already dead. I did not know what to do and so I ran to the closest house near me. When I told them everything that had happened they went to go check inside just in case, they saw a note. It said “Anna, you have an abnormal power, whoever you love dies and so we are telling you that you must not like anyone in your life or else you would hurt them and yourself”. We are sorry but our time here is done. Bye Anna” and so I left and came here to South Korea so that I could start a new life and when you had told me you liked me I remembered what had happened that night and decided to run away thinking that it would solve the problem but I guess that’s not how it works. I’m sorry” Anna said.  

“I guess now you don’t like me anymore, don’t you Devin?” asked Anna. “What are you saying, I told you I would never leave you even if that’s the last thing I do” said Devin. She started crying and saying that he needed to leave because she didn’t want him to be in danger and that she didn’t want to hurt Devin. “Are you serious? I don’t care what happens to me, I would stay with you no matter what even though I would have to die” said Devin. Anna was still worried but she said that she would not be able to love him because she didn’t want him to get hurt. He felt relieved knowing what she was hiding but also sad because she couldn’t love him. “Hey, I better get going, it’s getting late see you,” said Devin and he left.
