“The way we’re doing
this is simple, teachers will tell you spells, and you have to cast them. After
that, we’re going to rate which ones you’re all most proficient with and assign
you in the class you’re going to be in. Now split into fifteen rows by four and
wait for your turn. ” Alen Blanc gave us the short explanation of what’s going
to happen.
Fifteen teachers were here to guide the students. I was second in my row, so I can
now see how they’re going to do this. Unlike an elemental check, this time, everyone can see what other students do and how strong they are. It’s also good
that I can have a comparison to see how much others can do. Tobias wasn’t particularly
good at flashy magic since he could pretty much only enhance his own body, so I
really don’t have any knowledge on how strong people around my age are supposed
to be.
“Burn my enemies
to cinders, the spirit of fire, Aglon!” A humongous fiery serpent appeared and
torched the target and most of the ground around it.
“Well done, Ms Eliana Quill, what an amazing elemental beast you have summoned,
and you even call it by the name of the Aglon, the spirit of fire. If I didn’t
know better, I would’ve thought that you’ve really summoned the ancient fiery
serpent. Besides this, you’re also doing superb in Artillery magic, so you can
choose yourself the class you’re going to be in.” The teacher seemed to be overly
excited by this. To other students, they all seemed pretty indifferent.
“I’ll go with summoner class.” A short but stunning girl with platinum blonde
hair wore a pretty smug face when she looked at the other students. Well, she
did outclass everyone tenfolds from the ones I’ve seen so far. It might not be
a longshot that she does the best from us all here, and the control she has over
magic was also amazing. Hard to believe that there is this talented person around
my age.
“Hello, Mr Elias...
Lyceus, oh, you’re the son of Damon, right? Then you probably know a thing or two
about magic and how to cast spells. The long story short is that you pick an element you can use, and I’ll prepare for you seven different class spells that
you have to cast with all your might. If you know any spell that fits the class, feel free to cast that one instead. Like if you know other artillery class
spell than the one I’ll give you, then use that one.” He seemed to be older
than my dad, but if he is a mage, I can never tell the real numbers
if I don’t ask. However, he might have been superior to my father; that would make the most sense since the ones from the military usually end up never
being able to retire from it properly.
I don’t usually
use words to cast a spell. I visualize it and snap my fingers. Since I use
magic this way, I can make the same spell do different kinds of things. I can
use it as a long-range spell, close-range spell, make it look like some
creature, pretty much everything. At first, I tried chanting them, but it didn’t
feel natural for me, and I ended up using it this way.
My target’s in front of me. Lightning, this will do. I’ll just hit it with as
much of power as I have.
A snap. The entire room
illuminated by the lightning went white. The
target I was supposed to hit was still there. Ah, I missed it.
“I’m sorry, I’m bad at aiming my spells.” I looked at my feet as I felt
embarrassed to miss such an easy target that doesn’t even move.
“Well... It’s not all that bad... Since you destroyed all the other targets to
your left...” He put his fist over his mouth and chuckled.
“Oi, Tior, your student obliterated almost all of the dummies; now I can’t see how
much damage my student did. Did you ask him to do this? I know you, Tior; you always
mess with us!” It was the teacher that loved Eliana's performance. He was
screaming and shaking his hand at the teacher who was next to me, guess the old
man's name is Tior.
The training grounds went silent after that. Everyone was staring at me.
“I’m so sorry to ruin your examinations.” I bowed.
“It’s okay, Elias.” Tior slapped my back, and it pushed me forward... “It’s not that
much about you hitting everything else here, but the firepower you had.
Besides that power not being fit for a young boy like you, it could’ve been
lethal if you hit any other student here; heck, even teachers here would’ve
probably looked the same as the dummies there. We won’t assign you to any class
for now, but you will have extra practical lessons. Since you’re now done so, you
can join others and observe the rest, or if you want, you can go meet with the
teacher that will teach you how to control your magic.” His face was kind; he wasn’t mad, just surprised. He handed me a student diary and called in the next
in line.
I decided to greet at least the teacher with whom I’d spend a lot of time practising control over magic. I knocked at the door.
“Enter!” A scream behind the door echoes through the hallway.
“Hello, my name is Elias Lyceus, and I was invited here by teacher Tior to study
control over my magic.” I looked at the teacher and was surprised. A young-looking female was slapping other students in her class. She looked as if Aria’s
angry chicken farm was also attacking her. Her dark blue hair resembled a
nest. Dark circles surrounded her golden eyes. The clothes she wore were as if
she just returned from a dungeon filled with strong monsters.
“He-he-heeey! Whadap, boy! You haven’t received a beating in a long time. I see! I see! I’ll be happy to teach you magic!” With a huge smile on her
face, she said that to me. Her eyes looked crazy. She dropped the male student and
went back to her table.
“Give me your diary and come back tomorrow after your classes are over. Oke?”
I guess I’m done for.
