Of course, this would happen, what was I expecting. I can’t just live a normal life, being ignored and alone like everyone else. I look at Andrew, he’s humming the song playing, still smiling as if he’s won a prize.
“I really fucking hate you.” I say in a childish kind of way.
“Can you give me a reason?”
I can tell he’s not being serious and that just makes me even angrier. “Hm, let me see. You’re creepy, you’re borderline stalking me, and I have a feeling you’re involved in something sketchy.”
He looks at me with a wowed expression and I shrug my shoulders. “First of all, how am I a stalker?!”
I smile a little. “You just happen to show up at my school, you just happen to know the people around me, you go through my phone, you-”
He cuts me off. “Whoa whoa whoa, it’s not my fault I know people alright.” He laughs. “Well, how am I creepy?”
I look at him and squint. “You’re tall and look like someone who would show up to a party just to leave two minutes later.” I sit back and cross my arms.
“I just think you’ve never had fun, so you don’t know the look of fun people.”
“I wouldn't call getting kidnapped fun.”
He looks at me. “What class do you have?”
“Um, math?”
“Meh, you’re not gonna need it.” He takes a sharp right turn.
“Whoa, you know I was joking right?!”
“We’re going to the beach”
I look at him and punch him in the arm. “I. Have. A. Class.”
He looks at me and smiles. “You. Need. Fun. F U N!”
I cross my arms and sigh. “What I need is a fucking aspirin.”
Andrew laughs. It only hits me a few minutes later that we live nowhere near any sort of beach. This place is closer to a wasteland plus some puddles. I’d be lying if I said this situation isn't exciting. Sure it may be with a random guy that I know nothing about but you could just say that adds to the thrill, right? Should I trust the words of a guy who for one never listens, two practically invaded my privacy by going through my phone, and three ultimately just looks creepy? No, but am I still gonna do it anyway? Of course. It's Friday and I'm skipping my last class. I look over to face Andrew who looks like he has no clue where he's going.“Hey”
He quickly looks at me before looking back at the gravel road. I lean forward a little bit. “How long is this going to take?”
He smiles a little. “The whole weekend sound good?”
Now I'm intrigued. “What if I have plans?”
“Cancel them.”
“What if it's my dead grandmother's funeral”
He smirks. “She’ll still be dead when you get back, right?”
I lean back and close my eyes. “That was dark.” We both go silent. I squint my eyes at the long strip of road ahead of us. “Do you know where you’re going?”
He glances at me again. “Do I need to?”
I look at him with a serious face. “Yes.”
He smiles. “It's how you get there, not where you go”
“Poetic, did ya steal it?”
He looks at me with a dramatically offended expression. “Yes, as a matter of fact, I did”
I shake my head. “Absolutely shameless”
He laughs a little. “I know right.”
It's ok to sleep right now...right? I get the feeling if he was trying to kill me he would've done it already. I curl up and lean on the car door looking out the window. We pass abandoned building after abandoned building, I stop counting after 26. I start to feel my eyes getting heavy and I do nothing about it. The radio is playing quiet country music of all things but I can barely hear the words over Andrew’s excessive humming. I close my eyes and the humming stops for a second, I feel the car swerve a little and open my eyes. Andrew throws an old dusty yellow and green blanket at me.
“Here, you look cold.”
I look up at him. “You just have random blankets in your car?” He looks at me with a stupid expression. Kinda like when a little kid asks a stupid question that's equally as funny. I shake my head and go back to leaning on the door. Andrew starts humming again and I can’t tell if it's annoying or comforting. I never thought that I'd be in a situation like this. Is it weird that I kinda don’t want it to end?
