Uri paced nervously, having heard the soft tinkling in the air that indicated that someone had heard the call and had entered the Cities of Dawn.
She was chosen to greet them first, as it was her plans that allowed the walls to fall in the first place.
“C’mon, Uri, it could be worse.” Aure said, appearing beside her.
“And how exactly?”
“I could’ve told the others about the price of removing the barrier.”
She turned startled, unaware that he had known it.
“It’s been a long time since any of us used Father’s language to craft a spell or ritual.” Aure stared up at the sky with a frown. “But I still know it, even if the other three let it fall to the wayside. Uri, why did you choose to –”
“Let myself fade away?” Uri sighed. Aure would be the only one of the others to still know the ancient language.
“Yes.”
“Because we were not going to survive if we remained trapped in our own realm.”
It was Aure’s turn to spin around in surprise. Uri’s voice had deepened and her eyes faded to white.
“There was always going to be a price, I knew that when I started looking to demolish the walls. Removing my name from history was as small payment for our freedom.” Uri’s voice returned to normal but her eyes stayed white.
