The Coronation

The Coronation

Aug 01, 2021

Spending an entire year on planet Earth, I had finally returned back to my home planet, Coure. It had been a few days since my return, and the planet was bustling with the preparations for my coronation.

The royal families had the capability of using magic – each member gifted with a different magical art, and the coronation ceremony was held for the chosen princess to wear the magical crown in front of the public. The sacred crown holding the magical power of ruling the entire universe, thus leading to having an intense protection.

"Ready for the big day?" Akihiko, my personal bodyguard, asked as he walked into my room. The members of the lower status were mythical creatures. And the ones chosen as bodyguards were werewolves or nine-tail foxes.

“I am ready for tomorrow.” I sat down on my bed with a sigh. “I am just nervous about our secret.”

“Don’t be.” He sat beside me and took my hands in his. “As your bodyguard – and boyfriend – I will protect you with my life.” I glanced up to see my reflection in his purple coloured eyes, before glancing up to his white ears. tempted to scratch them. Akihiko was a werewolf, and I would always be scratching behind his ears or cuddling his bushy tail.

“I know.” I hesitated. “But Akihiko, if word goes out, I won’t be a full-fledged fairy.” The royal crown also has the ability of giving the wearer a pair of wings. The only being who becomes a full-fledged fairy while the other royal members are known as magicians.

“Don’t worry.” He rested my head against his chest. “For tonight, just sleep. No one will know about us.” I hummed at him as I relaxed against his melodic heartbeat.

The birds chirped happily as the new day arrived, while after breakfast, I was taken away to my dressing room to be prepared for the ceremony. Since my magic was the art of electricity and lightning, I was dressed up in light purple colour. Once the dresser and her personal assistant had finished, they left and Akihiko walked in with tray.

“Since when did you take the job of a butler?” I teased, sitting on my bed.

“I couldn’t let anyone else be first to see you all dolled up, now could I?” He grinned, handing me a cup while he settled the tray on my nightstand.

“Smells wonderful.” I sniffed in and relaxed. “Lavender tea. I should have known.”

“I couldn’t watch you walking around all tensed.”

I stared at the petals floating in my cup. “Coronation ceremony is supposed to be a happy ceremony. But I am scared of messing it up. Mom said that when it was her turn, she hadn’t slept the whole night and was jumping up and down, skipping around.” I gave him a small smile.

Reaching out, he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and gently stroked my arm, trying to relax me. “Things will work out fine.”

Normally I'd have been happy about the coronation ceremony as being a fairy has been one of my dreams. However, dating someone who is neither a royal blood, nor from a high status will lead me to surrender my throne and live a peasant life, which will be catastrophic in the royal family because an unclaimed tiara is a dangerous tiara as it may fall in the wrong hands.

The ceremony was held in the stadium where all the people – high and low statuses – came to witness. Akihiko whispered good luck to me as he stayed guard at the gate as I walked in the exact middle. First was my father’s speech which led to several moments of hard claps as my parents were the greatest rulers against all the generations. After the claps died down, my mother walked forth.

‘This is it.’ I thought. ‘Now there is no going back. Once mom puts that crown on me, there is no going back.’

As I kneeled there, in front of my mother, a girl shouted. “She does not deserve to be the fairy!” Followed by gasps from the audience.
