Today is the orientation for the first year and I do not feel like going. Mother had to force me. I walked to the front entrance of the school and many people were staring at me. I did not want people staring at me. I know I am the crown prince and all but this is just all much for me now. Then a boy that walked up looked like he was my brother's age. If my brother had not died he would be in the third year and I would not have to be in the spotlight and getting all that attention.

“Daniel Hi,” Luis greeted me.”   “Hello,” I stared at him.

“You do not remember me?” “I am your brother's teammate.” He said.

“Oh right, sorry it's just been a long time.”  

“Sorry for your loss,” he looked down. I just nodded and walked away

I then walked to the gym where all the other first years were headed. I followed my mom and dad and soon everyone turned towards us as soon as we walked into the gym. The headmaster then walked to the podium and gave a welcoming speech.

“Good Morning I am headmaster Gisela and I am pleased to see our new students who will be great students and go on to achieve their dreams, '' Gisela said.

“Here at Französisches, we make sure your children learn with the best teachers and staff so they can go on to be whatever they dream to be such as a doctor, a businessman, or woman.”

“We have many programs for every student such as robotics, art, technology, and many more,”  headmaster Gisela continued.

Then she said, “I am happy to welcome our new crown Prince and younger brother of deceased prince David,” she smiled happily as I walked up the front. 

I greeted her and everyone stood up and bowed down to me. After that everyone in the room clapped and cheered. Then the 3rd years who were in the student council gave a speech since the 4th years were preparing for university and soon it was time to go to a lunch party that my mother said I have to go to now I am old enough for these events. I sat down alone with no one to talk with. It would be great to have David. I used to tell him everything. The rest is history. I got up from my seat and walked to the bathroom to get away from the crowd. I can not stand being there anymore. Tomorrow is the first day of school and that means  I will only be home for vacation and holidays since it's a boarding school. 

I wanted to go home and sleep in my comfortable nice big bed but I knew my father would not let me go back to the palace. I just wished I was not the crown prince and just be a prince. I then saw a few of my brother's friends walk past. I ran to catch up to them to say hi.

“Hey, it’s me, Daniel.”

“Oh, Hey Danny, sorry for your loss,'' the older boy said.

“Yeah David was a great person,” Luis said.

I was just relieved when my mother said we are leaving and I did not have to stay at this boring event.

“Bye Luis and Garret.”  

“Bye Daniel take care,” Luis and Garret waved.

After we got home I went to my room and texted my three friends from my middle school who weren't my friends, they were just some kids who I hung out with.

Daniel-“Hey, what are you doing?”

Kane-“Nothing much watching tv.”

Daniel-“Oh well I was just bored and I wanted someone to talk to.”

Kane- “Ok well I am going bye mom wants me.”

Daniel- “Bye… talk tomorrow yeah.” 

Then the conversation was cut short so I decided to get ready for tomorrow since  I am going to school and that means I will go to that stupid boarding school that mother put me in. I went into my bathroom and washed up for bed. I am super tired. I jumped into the large bed and tried to sleep but I couldn't. I kept thinking about how I am going to fail as a crown prince. It would be so much easier if David was here. I finally closed my eyes when my mother came into my room.

“Mom knock please don't know if I was naked.”

“Sorry Daniel, I just want to tell you that we got your uniform,” she said.

I went back to sleep and tomorrow is going to be a long day. I can feel it. The sun rose and light hitting my face woke me up. I went to the dining room where the maids were laying out breakfast then mother and father got up. Everyone then sat down and I said grace. I grabbed some pancakes with bacon and orange juice. After breakfast, I went to my room to get dressed for school. I put on my clean new uniform and went downstairs to say goodbye to mother and father.

“Bye, mom and dad.”

They waved and I hopped into the car. My driver drove off and dropped me off at school. Many students were out and many who I saw looked like they pitied me. I just walked into the huge old building and was greeted by the Headmaster and some student government students.

“Hello,” I shook her hand.

“Hello Crown prince,” she greeted.

Soon the headmaster walked me to my room and let me unpacked. I put my bags on the bed and looked around the room. It was a nice room. It is big but not that big. It is painted blue and has the school colors flag too. I liked it. It was almost time for class to start so I hurried to put my stuff away. Then the bell rang and I walked to my first-period class which is economics which is a class my mother said I should take even though I do not want to learn boring things like that. I walked into the class and many students turned their heads at me. Then the teacher walked in and the class went quiet.

“Hello, I will be your economics teacher and Homeroom teacher for the year,“ Mr. Van said.

Then Mr. Van told me to come up and introduced myself. I did not want but I had no choice but to go up in front of everyone.

I clear my throat and start to speak though I am a bit nervous.

“Hmm Um hello my name is Daniel as you know I am the crown prince.”

I felt like going into hiding, staying there, and never coming out. Mr. Van then gave out our first assignment of the year which is why economics is important and how it impacts society. As soon as class was over I went to the gym which was my second class.
