It’s been a week since our date and that kiss. I still can’t believe Sean kissed me first. I wasn’t going to mention it unless he wanted to talk about it but I guess what I should have been ready for was Sean avoiding me again. I don’t know what happened. Everything was fine when I saw him Monday at lunch but after that he started acting weird. He has ignored all of my texts and calls. At this point I’m a bit frustrated, I wish he would just talk to me.
Yesterday when I tried to catch him by himself, he literally ran away from me without looking back. Before thinking it over I was going to just go to his house. He wouldn’t be able to avoid me there. I felt like sort of a stalker so I decided to leave him be, thinking he would talk to me when he was ready. It’s been a little more than a week already and I’m going a bit crazy, so is Jeremiah. Even Jasmine is keeping her distance from me. I wish someone would tell me if it was something I or someone else did or said. I really thought that we had gotten past this whole ordeal but I guess not.
Mitchell and I were waiting in the parking lot for Sara to finish up some things she had to do. She was taking a bit longer than we expected. Mitchell started to get antsy from being away from his mate for so long. He was on his phone I guess texting her. By the way he was acting though I know she hasn’t responded yet. I know he was about to go back into the building to look for her. He puts his phone in his pocket, turning to face me just as the door opens. It wasn’t Sara though and my heart stopped for a second as I watched Sean walk out of the building behind Jasmine.
They were talking and not paying attention to their surroundings so they didn't notice us yet. Jasmine pokes Sean in his side, pointing in our direction. Both of them stop walking. They looked like they were having a heated argument. Sean then looked directly at me. I thought he was going to run again so I didn’t bother trying to approach him. I felt my heart sink a bit and Jeremiah’s frustration.
The door opened again and there was Sara, she was walking out with our Science teacher. No wonder it was taking her so long and she didn’t answer Mitchell’s text. Our teacher has been trying to convince Sara to apply for a special program that would benefit her in the long run. The problem is that she will have to go abroad for a few years with no guarantee it won’t be extended. It would’ve been great if she didn’t already know who her mate was.
Mitchell will more than likely be my Beta when I take over from my dad in a few months. As much as I would like to let him go, I know it would be impossible. The council won’t allow it since our names have already been added to the general registry as potentials for the next in line. The problem is there are only our names on that registry since both of our siblings are not of age to take over yet.
“Jax?!” My entire body shifted to the mellow sound of my name coming from my mates lips. I didn’t even realize that Sean and Jasmine had come closer to us. My body is already moving of its own accord to fully turn to face him.
“Hey! C-Can we talk for a moment please?” He looks nervous. Nodding slowly trying not to make any quick movements that can spook him. Thankfully Mitchell is too busy looking at his mate to pay attention to us at the moment.
“Do you mind if I take you home or are you going with Jasmine? I don't mind her coming too if that will make you comfortable.” He doesn’t respond right away. He keeps looking at Jasmine then back to me. I take a leap and take the decision out of his hands.
“Jasmine, come on let’s go get some ice cream before I take you guys home. Is that cool?” She is already at the back door of my car waiting for me to unlock it.
“You had me at ice cream! Let's get this show on the road.” We all laughed at her response and actions even Mr. Nelson chuckled a bit. She waved Sean over who was now smiling. I’m happy I took the chance. I unlocked my car so they could get in. I thought Sean would sit in the back with Jasmine but he actually got into the passenger seat.
“Go. I’ll text you later since we don’t have patrol duty today.” Mitchell says, pushing me to my car. Sara finally joins us and helps by opening my door for me.
“Alright, I get it. I’m already going.” Shaking away from Mitchell I put my bag in the back next to Jasmine on the seat before getting into the car.
“Text me when you guys get home. We still have to decide what topic we are going to choose for our History paper.” They both nod but Mitchell mindlinks me.
“I hope it goes well bro.”
“Yeah… Me too.” Cutting the link I start up the car and make sure they both have their seat belts on before pulling out of the parking lot. The radio was on as a buffer. I can feel the tension coming off of Sean in waves.
“Is everything okay?” I ask, taking a quick glance at him. I look at Jasmine in the rearview mirror and she is looking at Sean. She looks a bit worried.
“T-There is something that I want to ask you.” He turns slightly to look at me.
“Okay. The floor is yours.” Jasmine pats his shoulder, reassuringly. Something tells me that I might not like what he is about to say.
“So you told me that I was your mate right?”
“Yes, that is what I said.” I don't know where this is going but I have a very bad feeling.
“Have you ever told that to anyone else?” Pulling over to the side of the road, I shut the car off. I can feel Jeremiah’s anger building.
“Whoa, okay that was a bit too fast.” Jasmine says while clutching onto the back of Sean’s seat. Sean looked a bit shaken up too.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you guys.” I try to calm myself enough to not scare them any further.
“No, I haven’t said it to anyone but you. Why do you ask?”
“Beth and her cronies cornered us, asking Sean why he was clinging to her mate. She said that you told her she was your mate last year. She even said that you guys have been dating secretly since then.” Jasmine fills in when Sean takes too long to answer. I knew I wasn’t going to like this.
“She also said your parents have already set everything up. They are just waiting for you guys to graduate.” Wow! I thought I made it very clear to Beth that she was not my mate. She has been trying to attach herself to me since we were kids.
“I can assure you that I have never told Beth she was my mate. You are my mate Sean.” I wanted to reassure him but I wasn’t sure if it was possible. He hasn’t said anything in a while, I wish I knew what he was thinking right now.
“Is this why you have been avoiding me lately?” I already knew the answer but I wanted to hear it from him. It looks like Jasmine is about to say something. Catching her eye in the rearview mirror I shake my head. I didn't want her to answer and she understood that.
“It’s okay Sean, you don’t have to answer.” I say starting the car and pulling back onto the road. Jeremiah was very upset and I couldn’t lie I was upset too. I thought that Sean had started to trust me but I guess not. I know it will take more than one date and hanging out with him during lunch for him to trust me fully. I atleast thought he trusted me a little to at least come to me first before avoiding me for almost two weeks. Well I guess I need to spend more time with Sean.
