Prologue
Our story takes place in a little known world. If you were to ask the inhabitants, they would tell you that they call their world 'Ancora'. They would explain how Ancora is a peaceful world of large variety. The weather, plants, and even the people changed from place to place. All the inhabitants know of the beauty of Ancora, though few have seen the variety with their own eyes. The only ones who have are those who travel between settlements either to trade goods or as a leader or representative of their tribe.
Ancora has become a world steeped in tradition. The people have segregated into ten tribes. Each tribe lives on one part of Ancora with their own climate, vegetation, and wildlife. Over time the people within their tribes began to resemble each other in ways that distinguished them from other tribes. Skin and hair amoung a tribe's people became shades of the same colour. Height and build became notably different between some tribes. Even temperment and interests became distinctive from one tribe to another.
The tribes settled into roles which they specialized in. Some tribes emphasized knowledge, some craftsmanship, and a few pursued even more physical endeavours such as the Yshek tribe. The people placed a lot of importance in the roles of their tribes for the culture and beauty of Ancora. Each person had a role within their tribe and found pride in how their work, and the tribes work, contributed to the prosperity of all who resided in Ancora.
These traditions, and the peoples' fierce pride, were the beginnings of a disturbance on this peaceful world. Though the majority would never admit to this, they knew that there was something missing from their everyday lives. However, what it is they were missing has been long forgotten by most, and those who had a glimmer of a memory were loathe to share it with others. Fear that these rememberances would segregate them from their tribes, and mark them what some call the "Oukast", ran too deep to allow the sharing of ideas that may not be accepted.
Perhaps it was this forgotten thing that prompted an ugly behaviour amoung the tribes. If you were to ask what this disfigurement of the Ancora culture was, you would be met with calm smiles and denials that anything could disturb the people's, and the tribes', beautiful world. Only the most bold, or foolhardy, would dare breathe a word about the Oukast to anyone who they did not trust explicitly. The children only knew of them as a story to be told and warn of misbehaviour and unaccepted conduct.
The people were content and plump in the ignorance they held that nothing could disturb their lives on peaceful Ancora.
