Nervous? No, that’s not the word I would use. My hands were shaking, and I could barely hold my breath in my lungs, which were already a little tight by the armor.
I knocked on the door a couple of times and it swung open, revealing Morgan, obviously annoyed, holding that very feminine pose, both hands on her waist, and slightly accentuated hips to her left. And yes, I regretted having gone, at least for that second, in which her eyes examined every inch of my body as if I were a plague.
- Hi - I waved at her, only getting a frown and a sigh back, - Come in – she moved away from the entrance, still holding the door to let me pass, - I don't know, I fear that you're going to hurt me if I do – I joked slightly afraid of her strength.
- Just come in, I’m making dinner – she laughed and I walked inside, I could smell the pasta coming from the kitchen, - Smells divine - I reaffirm how cute she looks when she blushes.
She wore a simple cotton top, yoga pants, and had her brown hair loose coming down on her shoulders, which was still dripping wet, so it was wetting her shirt. She was constantly fighting to keep it in place, but with the window open and the sea current hitting her back, her hair was not behaving and became even more entangled.
I grabbed the comb she left on the counter and stood behind her as she turned off the stove.
- May I? - I asked, she looked up to me and nodded with a smile, just like a child she ran to the sofa and sat with her back to me, making sure all of her hair was at my reach.
- I missed you this morning - there it was, I didn’t know how long I could convince myself she wasn’t going to talk about it, - The time in London is quite different than here, my friends and I were investigating a case - I began to gather the ends of her hair, and ran the brush gently to continue upwards, little by little so that it did not hurt.
- Huh, something fun? - her breaths were long, she relaxed after each stroke, - Yeah, I even got to see my ex – and then her shoulder stiffened, I almost laughed because of her reaction, - And you also combed her hair like this? - jealousy? I was so conflicted with my own head; I couldn’t decide if I should be angry or just never talk about what I know.
- Nah, my mom used to do my hair, and my sister knew how to braid it - Talking about my mother brought back memories, being inside the armor gave me the feeling of having my father hugging me, telling me to stay strong, that everything is fine. For the first time I looked back and actually felt warm while doing so.
- What was she like? Your mom – I separated strands of hair to make a braid on the side, but it kept undoing itself, stubborn hair.
- She was...severe but kind, strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me most of the magic I know, she also told me that one day I was going to make the impossible possible, she loved me very much and I love her – I finished untangling her hair, I reached for her shoulders to pulled them, so her back would lie against my chest.
- Wanna see a trick? Mom said my dad did this for her once – I stroked the air, and immediately blue waves flowed on top of our heads, taking the shapes of whales and dolphins, like splashing in the water.
Of course, it broke after a few glitches, - Sorry, illusions are not my strongest quirk, it’s ironic actually – she laughed grabbing my thigh, - Because your dad is the God of lies and illusions? Yes, it’s a bit ironic – now she was just being funny.
- Mischief actually, pranks, chaos and stupidity – I placed a kiss on her head, and I popped the most important question.
- Morgan, can I ask you something? - Now! I was nervous.
- Yeah sure, what's up? - my anxiety was making me crazy, - What if I... well, didn't looked like I do? Like, uhm, three eyes! – she turned her head around almost instantly, and asked in fear, - Wait, do you? –in which I tried to stay serious.
- Just answer – she sat straight and turned around so she was sitting in front of me, - Tess, you are not making sense right now, what do you mean you don't look like this? – pointing up and down on me? Really? - I'm not human, Morgan – I said more settled.
- Well, duh, you're Asgardian – I shook my head with a smile, - No, actually I'm not – she touched my forearm, with a sweet look, - Then, what are you? – I took a deep breath and let the illusion on my body fade away.
My arms turned blue, then it spread through my whole body until my face was totally covered with markings, also two horns came out from my forehead, I was finally in my jötunn form.
- Tessa? – she asked after she gasped and took her hand off my arm, - This is me, Morgan. I'm a Frost Giant, means that the black burn you had it's because of the frostbite my body temperature caused you – finally out, I felt so free, and exposed.
She reached for my face, tracing the lines on my skin down to my chin and neck, - How am I not getting burned right now? – in her eyes I saw no fear, - Because I'm allowing you to touch me – her warmth against my cold was so relaxing, I was melting.
- You...- I couldn’t look at her, I just couldn’t, I was frozen looking at the floor, until she pulled up my chin to make me look at her, - You're beautiful – she muttered in amazement, while I didn’t stop thinking about whether she was really being honest, or if it was just another lie.
The human without hesitation wrapped her legs around my waist, while resting her forearms on my cold shoulders.
Both of our faces were really close, Morgan didn't stop smiling, and frankly, me being a very cold creature, I had a huge blush spread all the way from my cheeks to the tip of my pointy ears.
- Anything else I need to know? – her nose was touching mine, so all I could see was both of her irises fusing.
- Yes... – I took a deep breath, before taking maybe a last glance at those beautiful brown eyes she I just loved so much, due to the whole meaning of the situation I was only able to smile. A soft smile to try to hide a huge amount of pain.
- I know – I stated.
- What do you mean "You know"? What are you talking about? – she tried to play dumb.
- Mi vida...I know all about your… "Glorious purpose" – I made the quotes with my fingers, to give it emphasis.
- How long? – she looked at me with an angry look.
- This morning, me and my friends shut down your little project. I must say, pretty smart manipulating Gallio into helping you, clearly you forgot to mention that Loki has been dead for 30 years now – that came out way meaner than I intended.
- And you weren't going to tell me? – she pushed me away and get off the couch. - Why is it you the one that's getting upset? You used me – I followed her, - I did not! – she must be kidding, I thought trying to keep it together.
- Oh, and- then tell me something, why did you save me? huh? To get the "Stock" closer?! – I yelled at her, really angry and with a huge pain in the stomach.
- No, Tessa you don't understand! – she reached for me but I rejected her touch, - Then tell me! why else would you do such a thing? – I stepped an cracked the floor under my heel.
- Tessa! – she called me out in fear, - At some point, were you going to tell me? tell the truth? Or did you just sit idly by waiting for me to find out about from the dirty mouth of a witch? -.
- Tessa calm down, I can explain – she raised her hands in a defensive position, for that I stepped back, and softened my tone - Go on then -.
- Yes, I sent the team to tear the scales off your snake body, at the start I was told that it was just an animal, a really rare one, so I didn't care how much I took from it. But then I went down there myself, I wanted to see what kind of animal makes such a strong venom, so I disguised myself, even got a mic that could change my voice, and then I saw you – she began explaining.
So, the detective that showed up was her?! All those weeks I spent getting to like the person that came restlessly every week, saying that she cared about me...was her lying all along?
- The fact that no one told me I was hurting a person hit me very hard, Tessa, I couldn't sleep because of it, but the project was bigger than myself, I needed to keep going, it all got worse when Thunder got into another rampage, the nations were going to kill you, and yes, at first, I saved you because... I was afraid I would lose material, but then I got to know you, and EVERYTHING changed -.
I stood there in silence, staring down to the floor, - Say something...- she took the neck of my armor in her hands and pulled me down, - Fuck! Tessa, say something! Yell, hit me, I don't care! Just DO something! – she was crying, her tears transparent and crystal clear, running down her cheeks.
I walked closer to Morgan, making her to lay her back against the wall. The ocean waves were so restless and wild that there were splashes of water wetting the balcony floor. The sky was dark and the thunders were so loud, that the glass of the windows cracked.
- What's that face?! Why are you smiling? – she choked on her own words.
It didn’t make me laugh, but I chose to smile instead of letting a single tear fall off my eyes, - You could've told me this from the beginning, why didn't you? – my head started dizzy, my migraines were getting worse.
- You're my friend, I thought I was protecting you, I thought I could fix it – “fix it"? The situation? Or me? I laughed and the next thing I said made my heart ache.
- In the end we are just stolen relics – I whispered, - What? What are you talking about? – looking how my life has worked, of course my dad didn’t wanted to see me crumble like this.
- It's funny, I understand him now more than ever...You betrayed me, Morgan. You told me I could trust you, and blindly I did, I was honest all the time – my heart, felt heavy and on fire.
- Tess... – I shut her up with a finger on her lips, the contrast of my skin with hers was divine, but I was a bit too frustrated to appreciate it, - Don't. You are a traitor...You...you are just, just so...you make me feel...- If it was already difficult for me to breathe, between sobs and tears it was even worse. I had her cornered in front of me, her chest rising and falling from her lack of air, eyes wide open to whatever I was going to do.
I put my hand to her cheek and I crashed my lips on her lips, sort of intending to devour her lying mouth whole, but also, besides of trying to make a statement, I tried to make a "nice" last memory of her. Morgan was clearly confused, but the kiss was so intense and intoxicating, she just seemed to melt to my touch.
When Morgan tried to reach my neck, I pressed both of her wrists together, pulled them over her head, and slammed her body against the wall.
The difference of heights started to be a problem after that action, which lead me to change my legs for a tail to lift Morgan up, rounding her waist with the crazy number of scales that inadvertently brushed under her blouse, forcing her to arch her back, pushing her abdomen against my chest.
Every time I pushed her forward, both of our breaths became shaky and desperate, but despite the urgent need for oxygen I kept going, until the last thunder finally shattered the windows.
- Tessa...- she breathed out, - Do you...regret it? – I looked to the mess outside, Thor was calling me, - Hurting you? Yes – she pecked my lips, - Good – with one last kiss I took down the illusion, the image disappearing after a shiny wave of golden light consumed it.
- I’m sorry, mi vida – opening my eyes, I faced the cliff, the sky just as dark as back in the USA, but it wasn’t the same.
The scepter in my right hand, and my dagger on my left one, I was finally ready to face him.
- I’m not going to let you do it, cousin – Thunder walked to my side, - Butt out, Thunder – he spoke out of concern, not rivalry, - For whatever you need, Tessa, I’ll be here – I shook my head laying a hand on his shoulder, - Be a dear and promise me something – he got closer to me, - Morgan Stark is planning to kill the Spiderman, don’t let her succeed – he nodded, and before I jumped off the edge I told him, - Don’t let her hurt you too much –.
