“Did you hear that?” Margui whispered to her husband. “My dear I cannot even hear you properly with this rain. I think we should head back to Bjorn Village. The husks or heaven forbid the kromagoths could come at any moment.” replied the husband whilst grabbing the wrist of Margui.

“Kiolo, hold on for a second. Be quiet.” Both were quiet for a moment, listening to the pit and patter of the rain falling against the dark forest. Kiolo was hesitant for a moment until he heard it as well. It was the cry of an infant. Both individuals rushed over to the source of the sound, brushing and breaking the branches of the dark forest as they traversed. Mud covered their boots as they searched for the crying child. That was when Margui locked her eyes on the infant laying on the basket.

“Oh you poor thing,” Margui said as she lifted the basket up to her chest. She noticed a small piece of paper as well as a shiny object tucked inside the basket along with the baby wrapped in a dirty ragged blanket. “Darling, can you provide some light for a moment?” Kiolo grabbed onto his tesseract and summoned a glyph above his palm. A small blue flame appeared on top of it and lit up the surroundings. Margui’s eyes met the baby’s blue eyes that glisted against the flame. “What’s written on the paper, love?” The wife grabbed the paper and took a quick glance at it before reading aloud:

“Persei...

This little rascal’s name must be Persei...now what is this?” Margui placed the paper back inside and took out the shiny object. “My oh my, I’ve never seen such a tesseract before...this one has twenty sides...compared to normal round ones...”, Kiolo exclaimed. The baby started to cry once more. “Darling! You made the baby cry again!”. After the baby started crying, they heard branches snapping around them and a loud raspy groan.

Kiolo and Margui’s eyes met each other in horror as both of them immediately stood up and started to run. “It’s the husks!” Margui screamed. She looked behind herself for a moment and saw the white bones of a dead deer, eyes glowing red with hate and malice. A group of skeletal wolves flocked behind it and started to growl. Their red eyes faded into the darkness and rain as they both traveled further away from the husks.

“Kiolo I think we’re in the clear-” Margui was cut off by the glowing red eyes materializing behind them once more.

They can hear the bones of the husks grinding and breaking as they run on the mud and rain. “Margui! Go ahead! I will distract them!” Kiolo said as he turned around and clasped onto his tesseract.

“Kiolo! Don’t! You’re no match for a group of husks!” Margui said as she clasped onto the baby in the basket.

“Margui! GO!”

The wife closed her eyes and choked on her words as she continued running. She could hear the screaming of her husband and the breaking of bones behind her. Kiolo summoned a flaming sword from the red glyph and started to cut and tear the bones of his enemies. He ducked as one of the wolf husks tried to pounce him, he was able to cut down three wolves before more came. One bit his leg and Kiolo knew it was over.

One bite from husks is a death sentence, he knew his fate and had accepted it. As Kiolo takes his final breath, his gaze locks onto two hooded figures sitting on the treetops, watching him. He gritted his teeth and screamed with all his might and frustration, “KROMAGOTH!”

Margui couldn’t hear the screams of her husband anymore and all she could hear aside from the rain was the tear and growls of the husks that mawl on the flesh of the person she called her husband. She looked down at the baby she was rescuing from such a fate and started to cry.

“Persei...please...avenge Kiolo…”

The wife reached the wall of Bjorn Village. She was never so happy to see the powerful glyph of protection drawn on the wall in her entire life. The guards at the wall found her muddy, crying, and soaked from head to toe. They escorted her inside the village and she looked back once more.

She doesn’t know what is more terrifying; the red eyes of the husks that plagued this world or the lack of eyes from the man she loved staring back at her. Nonetheless, she looked down at the life she saved and saw the blue eyes of a bundle of possibilities.
