“Today’s the day, huh?” Keiko murmured to herself; eyes
focused on the clouds above her.
“Is it that hard to believe?” Her sister’s voice asked from somewhere behind her. “We knew it was coming, ever since I saw that seer at the carnival.”
“That doesn’t mean I didn’t want more time.” Keiko sighed out.
“It’ll be okay.” Her sister said reassuringly, “I know what I saw. Stick to the plan and it should all go well.”
“But it won’t be the same without you by my side, Yuna. You’re expecting me to save the world on my own.”
“Not on your own, silly. You’ll have people by your side, just like I did. Just don’t make the mistakes we did, okay? I don’t think the world could handle losing all of us.”
“No, it wouldn’t. Thanks for answering.”
“You only ever have to call me.”
Keiko sat in silence for a bit longer, waiting for the messenger she knew was coming.
“Miss Keiko!” he called out from the gate. He sounded more than a bit concerned. “I’m sorry.”
She didn’t turn to him, only nodding. “I know.”
“She asked me to deliver this to you before they took her.” He said, walking up to her. “I just wish… she was an inspiration to us all, Miss Keiko. No matter what they claimed.”
“I… thank you.” She didn’t know what to say.
“I’m serious, Miss Keiko. If you need anything, just let us know.”
“I will.”
“That’s all I can ask of you, Miss Keiko.”
He handed her a journal, Yuna’s journal. Keiko already knew what was waiting for her in it, the evidence they needed for the rebellion.
“Goodbye, Miss Keiko. I’m sorry for your loss.”
And she was alone once more, her sister’s voice
long since fading into the wind.
