I shivered as the cold snowy wind whirled around me. I had never been in temperatures colder than 47 degrees. This was below freezing, and getting colder. I pulled the thin jacket closer and peered up at the flurry of snow coming my way.
"What the heck is going on?" I muttered under my breath as I caught a single flake on my hand. It melted immediately, but I still felt its cold. Just as I was about to go inside to huddle up from the cold, something flew by overhead. No, someone. She almost looked like a grape-flavored candy cane. Black dress, white boots and sleeves, dark and light purple striped hair. Yup, I was definitely calling her Candy Cane Girl from now on. I did notice a black and purple folded umbrella in her hand. So maybe Candy Cane Girl was Mary Poppins in disguise? Right on her tail (umbrella? pigtails?), two other strange-looking people followed. The black one slipped on the wet solar panels of my neighbor's house, and the other one grabbed his hand and pulled him onto our roof.
"You've got to be careful, Chat!" she chastised him. "The people here have lots of solar panels! This is the fifth time you've slipped!"
"Sorry, M'lady," the black one, Chat, said unapologetically. "I was too distracted by your grace to see where I was going."
The girl, red and black-spotted, groaned.
"Chat Noir, you've got to pay more attention to the villain!" she said in annoyance. "What happens when you're so 'distracted' that you get your Miraculous taken?"
Chat Noir looked away, but when he looked back, he had a huge grin on his face.
"I can't help it, M'lady," he said in a mock complaining voice. "You're just so beautiful, I can't take my eyes off you!"
I looked over at "M'lady" for her reaction. It was clear to me now that these were superheroes, and that girl before was a supervillain. But they were pretty lousy superheroes if they could distract each other this easily. The red and black-spotted girl froze, her face a mixture of emotions. Annoyance, frustration, anger, but also embarrassment and amusment. Then they all disappeared under a careful mask of seriousness.
"Chat Noir, if all you're going to do is flirt with me instead of fight, I'm going to have to ask you to just go," she said firmly. "I can find someone else to help me fight Stormy Weather."
Chat Noir looked thoroughly hurt, and the girl looked a little regretful at her words.
"Sorry, Ladybug," he said softly, so quietly that I could barely hear it. "It won't happen again..."
Ladybug looked victorious, but Chat Noir wasn't finished.
"...Today," he added quickly, then started running again. "Come on, M'lady! Let's catch a villain!"
Ladybug groaned as he tripped on the edge of the solar panels and fell flat on his face. He began to slip down, and she ran over to grab his belt tail. That was when she happened to look down and see me. She helped Chat Noir up distractedly, keeping eye contact with me. He opened his mouth to say soemthing to her, but she pointed to me. Chat Noir followed her gaze, and a grin broke out on his face.
"Hello there!" he called down. "I'm guessing you live around here?"
"You're standing on my neighbor's roof," I said bluntly. "And I'm guessing you're supposed to stop that Candy Cane Girl, or Stormy Weather, or whatever her name is?"
Chat Noir and Ladybug froze, looked at each other, and said, "Crap," in unison.
"Thanks!" Chat Noir called out as they ran off. I watched them run, then felt the need to follow them. I rushed down the street, trying to keep them in sight. I dodged any puddles, seeing as they would all be frozen over and not safe to walk on. I looked up at where Ladybug and Chat Noir had stopped to catch their breath and look for Stormy Weather, and slipped on a small patch of ice hidden under a pile of snow. I yelped as I went down, but luckily, there was more snow where that small pile came from. I fell face first into a freezing hill of the stuff, and as I did, I heard the tinkling of falling jewelry. I scrambled to my knees, knowing exactly what made that sound. As I searched for the dragonfly necklace, I heard a cackle that could only belong to a supervillain. Insane and selfish, with a hint of over-confidence. Sure enough, when I turned around, I could see Stormy Weather flying around the two superheroes.
"You don't stand a chance against me, Ladybug and Chat Noir!" she exclaimed loudly. "Give me your Miraculous, and I promise not to hurt you too much!"
"You know, I'd rather the cold shoulder, Ice Queen," Chat Noir said teasingly.
"I think her heart is too cold for your puns, Kitty," Ladybug teased.
I giggled at their casual, super bad puns, then went back to looking for the necklace. I saw its chain glittering in the snow and grabbed it, just as Stormy Weather noticed me.
"Ah, look!" she giggled. "The perfect model for my ice sculpture!"
She pointed her umbrella at me, and I rolled to the side just in time.
"Ugh, you need to stay still!" she groaned.
"Hey, Ice Queen!" Chat Noir called, drawing her attention from me. "Pick on someone your own temperature!"
Stormy Weather turned and glared at him, giving me time to run behind a tree. I clutched the necklace to my chest, getting the feeling I was about to witness an epic battle.
ICE to meet you, Candy Cane Girl. I believe we've SPOTTED you before. You didn't beat us then, so what makes you think you'll beat us MEOW? You done SLIPPED up! Now you're FALLING into more trouble that you can handle. SNOW chance of beating us now!
It's crazy how your life can change so quickly! One day I'm fretting about my move from the US to Paris, the next I'm fighting crime alongside the best! Shadowmoth definitely isn't making my life easy, and with the new school and everything, I'm completely swamped. But if Ladybug and Chat Noir can do it, can't I?
I came up with this idea when my friend started pretending that her watch was a miraculous. I have been working on this idea for a while now, so I have the plot mostly figured out. Enjoy!
