Levi lifted his head up to find Brian crouched in front of him. He looked past him to see Michael slowly standing from his chair. His hand was up in front of him while the other gripped Cain’s shoulder. Michael looked to be in pain as he focused on the woman at the door. She was grinning. The grin was wide and looking almost like a snarl. Levi slowly stood up, mainly leaning against Brian since his cane was missing. He found it near Michael, but he was soon distracted by the sight of large wooden shards floating in the air around Drystan and Declan.
Declan quickly grabbed Drystan and started to tug him back out of the way of the shards. Brian called out, “Declan up the stairs! Call for help!”
The woman reacted. The wood on the stairs lurched and twisted as Michael sent the wooden shards flying back at her. Delcan managed to clear the stairs with his brother. The woman ducked back out the door. She let out a laugh before swiping long dirty blonde hair out of her face. “Your wards hide your skill!”
“Cain.”
“On it.” Cain held his hand over his arm. Levi watched in awe as a curved sword made of ice was pulled off his arm.
Shaking Brian, Levi hissed, “He just… his whole arm is covered in tattoos. You think they’re weapons?”
Brian swatted at Levi’s hands. “Stop shaking me!”
“But magic Brian!”
Michael let his hand drop as Cain rushed for the door. Levi was completely draped over Brian’s back, watching in awe. Cain dropped to his knees and slid out the door just as claws raked over the wood above his head. Levi felt his blood run cold at the sight of orange eyes that glanced in at them. He tightened his grip on Brian as he hissed. “That’s the wolf that chased me.”
The wolf took off after Cain. Michael slowly made his way towards the door. He looked at Ozy, who quickly ran out the door, his body changing into a large fire cat. The woman let out a swear as she jumped over the banister, wrapping the porch to escape the giant cat. Michael looked at Brian. “Get him out of here.”
Brian grabbed Levi’s arms and hoisted him fully on his back. Levi let out a startled sound as Brian stood up. “Hey! Wait! What about everyone else!?”
“They’ll catch up. You need to be safe.”
“But..”
Michael turned and looked at Levi with a steeled face. “No, you’re leaving. Go.” He walked towards the front door. Snapping his fingers, a flame roared to life in his palm. “You’re trespassing, and you attacked people on the land I’m protecting.”
The woman stepped back. “This is not….”
Michael calmly walked down the stairs as symbols started to float up out of the fire. “Leave, or I’m dragging you in front of the magistrate.”
The woman quickly lashed out by sending vines of wood at Michael. Some hit a barrier and exploded into shards of wood or redirected to hit the front porch. With the symbols floating in the air in front of him, Michael whispered, “May the magistrate have mercy on your soul.” Chains shot towards her as Ozy appeared to chase after her heels. Shards of ice were flung at him. They were redirected into the ground, with a few nicking his bare arms. Looking over his shoulder, he looked at Brian. “Go.”
Brian nodded and rushed past Michael with Levi. A howl echoed around them and Drystan appeared next to Levi’s truck. “Got the keys.”
Drystan hurriedly unlocked the door, and Brian quickly put Levi in the truck. Levi glanced over his shoulder to watch as Cain was tossed back into the house, and orange eyes landed on them. “Brian. Brian, the wolf is looking at us.” It started to charge at them just as Drystan opened the driver’s door and climbed into the seat. “It’s charging us!”
Brian turned in time to see Cain slam into the wolf’s side. The both of them toppled over, disappearing from sight. Brian quickly shoved Levi over into the center of the front seat. He started to climb in only to be yanked out of the truck by the orange eyed wolf. Levi let out a shout at the sight of Brian being tossed like a rag doll. The orange eyed wolf reached in with clawed hands and snagged Levi’s already injured leg. He let out a cry of pain as claws ripped into his sleep pants. Drystan lunged over Levi and clawed at the orange eyed wolf’s face. Levi quickly shoved his good foot into the wolf’s throat. The wolf released his leg, wheezing for air. Levi swore in pain as Drystan quickly climbed over him towards the choking werewolf. Drystan looked over his shoulder. “Start the car and back out!” He turned back to the wolf and shoved both feet against its face. The orange eyed wolf wheezed out a yelp only to be tackled to the ground by another dirty tan wolf.
Levi quickly found the keys in the ignition and started the truck. Drystan went to close the passenger door. Delcan quickly squeezed into the cab, shoving into Drystan. He turned and slammed the door himself. “The little one moves fast like you.” He was pressing his hand to his side.
“Are you okay?”
“Just a scratch.”
Levi was in the middle of reversing the truck when he looked over and shouted, “Oh my god are you bleeding!? Just a scratch, my butt!”
Delcan gave a laugh. “It’s fine. I’ll be fine.”
“What do you mean it’s fine! You're bleeding?”
“Don’t worry about it and drive.”
Levi made an aggravated sound at Delcan’s words. He pulled a blanket out from under the seat. “Use that, don’t bleed on my seats. Blood is a pain to get out.” Declan took the blanket and pressed it to his ribs.
Drystan quickly climbed into the back seat. He threw himself over the next line of seats into the covered bed of the truck. Levi looked in the rearview mirror in time to watch as Drystan opened the hatch door and dropped the gate.
“Drystan, what are you doing!?”
“Letting Brian in!” Just as he said that, the large dirty tan wolf dove into the bed of the truck as Drystan turned and looked at him. “Drive!”
Levi caught sight of the orange eyed wolf charging them. He threw the truck in drive and pressed hard on the gas with a hiss of pain. Drystan had to brace as the dirty tan wolf let out a yelp, only to have Drystan grab a fist full of fur. Once the dirty tan wolf was stable, he reached out and yanked the tailgate up, and grabbed the hatch to close it. But not before flipping off the orange eyed wolf.
