Dawn of The Blessing's Night

New Merchant

New Merchant

Aug 11, 2021

I couldn't tell Sara that I had stayed in a forest for the past month since there was no way that she wouldn't think
I have gone mad. I wanted tell her about Adron but he had made it very clear initially that I am not to share it with anyone since it will draw too much attention and then there was obviously the possibility of them thinking that I have lost my sanity. I myself wouldn't have believed if someone said to me that they literally have a god inside.

I told her that I camped on the outskirts of the forest; meditating and training with other small time adventurers and that we went deep in the forest in the last few days to me hunt. After summarizing all that, I looked at her, scratching my head.

"If you had people to help you then why are you white as a corpse." She asked raising a brow.

Too observant, I thought to myself. I looked at my hands, she was right, it's too clear that I have gotten thinner but fortunately it's not as drastic as it was when I ate my first hunt.

[What should I say?] I sent to Adron but there was no reply. He was completely silent since I entered the house, the place that was usually filled with his snide remarks was empty. I have to think for myself.

"You don't want to tell me? It's fine, but make up something that mother would believe." My eyes widened as I heard her say it. I don't know whether she said it because she understands there is a reason I am not telling her or does she really don't care about me at all? Although, deep down I know it's the former. I nodded with a smile and she returned the gesture.

...

[Get up]

"..."

[I said get up, brat!]

My eyes shot up as Adron relayed a shrill in my brain. I saw Sara sleeping on the very armchair she was sitting on while talking to me last night, she had a peaceful expression on her face, as if none of our problems bothered her at the time. I guess sleep works on everyone alike, rich or poor, taking them into worlds of sheer calm.

Is it day already? No, it's still dark. What's with him then?

"What are you doing?" I mumbled, still ready to lie like a baby anytime.

[Fool! A little nap and you forgot all those babblings you did about surprising them?...Not like I care about it, though.] His scoff knocked me out of drowsiness. Immediately leaping off of the makeshift bed, I waddled quietly to the door.

[Thanks.] I said to Adron but my gratitude was easily disregarded, he went back to that silent state again. Can I conceal my mind like he does too? I will try it too sometime but for now, I have something more important at hand.

Without so much as a creak from the floor, I reached the entrance and opened the door slowly so it wouldn't make any sounds. I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder, that I had gotten quite used to in the past month, as soon as
the door opened, it was Argen. I had left him to watch over the heave last night. After shutting the gate just as slowly, I walked over to the bodies of gliders. Looking at the sky I could tell it was an hour before sunrise.

Perfect, I thought.

I hauled the bodies over to the other side of the village. There aren't many people who could actually afford to buy the gliders here so I thought I'd sell them to the Grandths, they are the richest people in town. I was reluctant at first thinking of that little incident with John but then again, I don't think they'd put little scuffles over business and what exactly could John tell them anyway? I never even touched him.

After a two mile walk, the manor came to view. The house was made out of carved red sandstone. It was, in a way, a clear statement of their status in the village, a beautiful red manor with a huge lively garden. As much as I wanted to walk into the face of this house, the trades were done at the back, I guess they prefer keeping the source of money under their noses.

They had a whole market in their backyard and it opened up quite early so I chose to come at a time when it wasn't swamped with people. On reaching the backside of the manor, I saw quite a number of people around. There were several stalls around, some stood beside heaves of harvests and textiles while others roofed barrels of what I could only think of by the smell as oils and alcohols.

I needed to get as much money as I could get for these carcasses but the problem was that they were simply too expensive for any normal trader in this town, the Grandths though, they wouldn't have much of a problem. But being the only prospective buyer was a strong bargaining chip in their favors.

Although it was before dawn and the whole village was quite, this part on the other hand, was full of clamor. The crowd wasn't nearly as small as I had wanted.

Anyways, I headed to the inner parts on the earthen street, that's where the Grandth's proxy traders were.

"Scram kid." A tall man bumped into me. After glancing at me, his gaze fell on the heave behind me."Huh? You really brought corpses to sell here? You might as well have them give you a drink or two. Fool...bringing unskinned squirrels to sell."

Ignoring that growling man, I walked past him. It was a moment later that I realized it would hurt his ego and I was supposed to listen to his rambles but it was too late now that his big hand was pressing on my shoulder.
