Chantel has been in Melicona for a month with Darren. They were staying at a safe house, run by a witch. Of course, the witch, who ran the house, was Toby and Amelia’s mother, Mara Alecsandri, who was a famous medical mage therapist, at least in the Croceia Sector. The Alecsandri Family owned a hospital system, which ran through both through City Square and Melicona. However, this safe house has nothing to do with the hospital business, as this was Mara’s own charity business.
They called this place ‘Nightfall Retreat Hideaway’, which was for people who need a place to stay for a variety of reasons. Anyone who was passing by can stay here for a reason. Chantel got up and headed downstairs to the eating area, where she met a tall young man with long dirty blond hair sitting at the table. She sighed, not in the mood to see this man today. Her eyes darted around the room to find Darren and, once again, her best friend went off somewhere with his father.
Making her way to the kitchen area, she took out a box of cereal from the cupboard, then went to the refrigerator and got started to making her green tea. Once Chantel finished making her breakfast, the young man answered his cell phone and got up from the table she was sitting at.
The man looked at her, then barked, “Looks like we’re getting more fresh meat today! Time for me to go get them.”
Just as he headed over to the exit, a young woman stopped him in place. The women had black, messy hair, wearing an attire of a long white t-shirt with a leather brown jacket and navy jeans. She scolded, “Ah, not so fast! You are not going out without me! After all, I’m the one that has the driver’s license, Luca. I’m gonna drive you there so you can get them.”
The man, Luca, groaned in response and complained, “Yvonne, why do you have to be such a joykill? Plus, I have a license…”
“An expired one that you haven’t renewed, plus your driving record is horrible! Mara does not trust your driving skills one bit! I’m driving and you’re sitting in the passenger seat!” Yvonne protested to the grumpy man.
With that, the couple left the room, but not before a tall, blond-haired woman wearing a business suit came in after them. Chantel knew the woman was Mara Alecsandri, herself, who was bringing her updates about the whereabouts of her father. She was also using her connections with the City Square Mayor to convince Darren and her to stay here. The woman hurried over to sit down next to Chantel in an empty chair at the table.
“I’m just here to check in to see how the two of you are doing. I already checked in on your friend and I want to know how you are doing?” Mara asked, still showing her big prickly smile to the girl.
Chantel put down her cup, then answered, “Fine… I guess? Anything about my father…? Can we stay here longer or....?”
The girl would hate how she would have to leave another place again. She knew she did nothing wrong, but, since she left Clare Point View, it felt like Darren's and her safe place options were limited. Chantel was not only a fugitive, but Supernatural towns banned Bio-Kinetics. Melicona and City Square were no exceptions to this ban. It was probably why most Bio-Kinetics live in the Anchor Towns.
However, going back home was now becoming less of an option, since there was news of the Outsider government purging the Supernaturals out of the Anchor Towns. Getting up from her seat, Mara offered Chantel to leave the kitchen common area for privacy. Chantel knew that talking about these issues was private, so it was best to follow the woman to talk to her. So, she took her cup of green tea and cereal bowl with her, then followed Mara to a small office in the far back part of the building. Closing the door, Mara went to sit at her desk, while Chantel sat in a hard but still comfortable chair nearby.
When they were both settled, the two of them continued their conversation.
“Anyway, about the two of you staying… You two have to convince both of the mayors that neither you nor Darren will cause any harm. You are victims of a crime,” Mara stated, while Chantel was still eating the last bits of her cereal.
“Convince them? How?!” she exclaimed. The girl almost dropped her full green tea cup, then caught herself quickly before spilling some tea.
How the heck was she going to convince Supernatural politicians that Darren and she were innocent?
“I can come with you two vouch for you two, but I may have to bring my son and daughter to back you two up,”
“Toby and Amelia?”
“They know more about the situation, far more than I do. Even their bandmate, Nicola, could back you up on what happened at Rockwick, if she is available to come with us,”
Chantel had to think about the next move for both Darren and her. As far as she knows, many people considered them criminals. The first goal of settling in was to convince the political leaders that they meant no harm to anyone. However, the way the media was manipulating the story right now, it would be tough to convince others of their innocence.
Chantel then suddenly realized something amid her thoughts and asked, “My father… What happened to him?”
Mara shook her head and responded, “Based on my sources, your father left Clare Point View. An anonymous source told me that when they went to your home, your father had left. Even searching for him became impossible.”
Chantel slid down in her seat, feeling disappointment with Mara's answer. She still could not forget the day when she burned her father’s arm using her powers. Thinking back to the day when the concert massacre happened, Chantel still wished that she had not left for her band's gig that day. Her father went missing, and it was all her fault.
In her mind, she wanted to give up and just go to jail anyway, to trade her father’s safety over hers. Watching Mara getting up from the desk, the woman touched her shoulder for comfort.
“Don’t worry, dear, my source will continue to find your father. You just rest here until we figure out what our next move is for us,” Mara said.
With that, the woman headed to the door, then signaled Chantel to follow her to another room. Getting up, she followed closely next to Mara into another room, where there were packages and mail for the residents living here. Mara greeted the mail room worker, then chatted with him briefly. The mail room worker gave the older woman one enclosed envelope and some bags. Chantel stood outside of the room when Mara went over to her, putting the bags on the ground near the girl. She handed over the envelope to Chantel, then opened her mouth to speak again.
“I have a couple of people in Clare Point View getting in contact with people who know you two. They gave us this stuff that came from Jesse. These bags were stuff belonging to you and Darren. I assume this Jesse person is your friend?” Mara stated.
Chantel nodded and opened the letter in haste, feeling relieved that her best friend was safe. When she opened it, Jesse’s letter was brief, telling her that both Chantel’s father and Darren’s aunt gave him all of their stuff that they would need or like to keep. The letter ends with Jesse’s hopes they were safe and he missed them. A smile appeared on Chantel’s face. If only she could have her cell phone with her and tell her friend that they were alright.
Grabbing all the bags together, she thanked Mara, then carried the bags, leaving the mail room. Heading to the shared bedroom, she sat on her bed to look through her bag with her stuff. Chantel put some of the stuff on the bed to organize for later. A couple of things stuck out of her: Two pictures were one of the best memories in her life: There was a picture of her now former band, The NorthEasters and another with her father and her at her high school graduation.
She puts both of the pictures on the dresser. It was amazing how her life had changed in a flash. One day, she was just an average girl, then overnight she became known as a “Supernatural Criminal.” to the public. Sometimes, Chantel wished she could be just Ji-a Chantel Delise again. A normal girl like she was before.
Moments later, she heard the sounds of people coming from the common area. One familiar booming loud voice made her jump in shock and confusion. Hurrying out of the room, she saw some new people: One little girl, a young man, and a young woman, who Chantel knew was none other than Leticia Hernandez!
