8 years later

Caleb was now 18 years old and had his full Demon abilities unlike the rest of his life where he could only fly as Demons were born with black wings on their backs. Caleb could now transport to wherever he wanted within seconds without having to move an inch. He could shield himself against danger which he had only used to keep out his parents voices when they nagged him and he could lift objects and move them around. Caleb was sure he had other abilities but he was yet to find out what they were and how to use them.

Purr purr purr was what Caleb heard in his ear when he woke up with his wings wrapped around himself to keep warm, duvets just didn’t do it for Demon’s and why would they want to use them when they could keep warm without them. The purring was coming from the fully grown panther sleeping beside Caleb on the bed. The panther had his own room complete with a bed and all the supplies a panther would need but the panther never used his room. When it was first presented to him at age 2, Jett sniffed around the room and left never to step a paw into it again. Instead he followed Caleb back to his room and always slept beside Caleb. Caleb hadn’t been happy with that at first, he had wanted the bed to himself but he could see how much Jett cared for him and knew the pet couldn’t be parted from him. Jett was always by Caleb’s side since the day they met 8 years ago, Caleb knew he was stuck with the panther for eternity and now he had accepted that his bed would always contain a certain Panther.

Caleb unwrapped his wings from his body and stretched them out at each side before doing the same with his arms and legs. By the time he was done, Jett was awake and was doing the same.

“Good morning Jett,” Caleb greeted his pet.

Jett growled lowly in reply as Caleb petted his head. Jett leaned into his owner’s touch then leaned up to Caleb’s face to lick it. It wasn’t something Caleb enjoyed but he didn’t say anything because he knew it would hurt Jett’s feelings. The panther may not have been able to talk with Caleb but he understood what was going on and what was being said to him, all Demon pets did as they were very intelligent like all animals no matter who their owners were or where they were born.

Once Jett had finished his morning greeting to his owner, Caleb flew to his own bathroom beside his room with his clothes for the day. When he was younger, Caleb had found it difficult getting dressed into his tops because his wings were tricky to get through the cut out area of the back without wripping the entire top apart but after years of experience, Caleb now found it easy.

After a few minutes, he returned to the bedroom all washed and dressed in a white top with black jeans and shoes.

“Breakfast time Jett,” Caleb told the panther who purred in return and stood on all four paws before running to the door. He pawed at the door to open. Caleb flew to the door, he rarely walked when he had wings to fly with. Although he did walk a few times a day to prevent gaining weight and using his wings grew tiring after a while. He opened the door and Jett went zooming out and down the many flights of stairs to get to the dining room. Caleb spread out his wings before catching up to the panther who was already waiting by the dining room door. Caleb opened it once he was close enough and again, Jett rushed inside to see his plate of breakfast was already there waiting for him.

The King and Queen were already seated at the table eating their breakfast.

“Morning Caleb,” the Queen greeted her son with a smile.

“Morning Mum,” Caleb replied as he took a seat between his parents.

“Dad,” Caleb acknowledged his Dad who nodded his head in return. A servant then appeared with Caleb’s breakfast and he immediately tucked in but Jett had already wolfed down his meal and had moved onto his water bowl to wash it all down and clean his face which was now covered with his remnants of meat.

When Caleb finished his breakfast and headed towards the entrance to leave, Jett followed him with great excitement because he knew it was time for their daily walk. Caleb tucked his wings away on his back before opening the entrance door which was guarded on the outside by two guards. They didn’t bat an eyelid at Caleb and Jett because they were royalty and could leave the Palace as and when they pleased.

They took the path to the left and continued walking for several minutes before Caleb’s legs grew tired and had to use his wings again as they got tired less often than his legs. Jett continued at his pace and showed no signs of slowing down, he was in his element. Panthers loved to run every single day and it was Caleb’s job to ensure his pet was happy by taking him on those runs as he couldn’t go alone. Pets couldn’t go anywhere on their own, they could easily be kidnapped and taken to other worlds to be sold at the highest price as they were very valuable. Demon pets were rare in colour and weren’t available anywhere else so there were often thieves from other Worlds lurking about looking for a chance to take a pet from their owner.

Caleb looked around to see there was no one around except them and they continued their walk without any problems.
