The soft glow of the early morning sun bleeds through the open window, bathing the bedroom in a warm light. The easy shining of the sun across Ty's closed eyelids eventually causes him to stir, rolling over on his bed and groaning deeply into his pillow.
The incident at the grocery store last week really shook Ty to his core, so he can't even begin to imagine how horrible and distraught Jenelle must be feeling right now. Ty just hopes they can find Jenelle's little daughter before anything bad can happen to her, if it hasn't already.
Ty groans again into his pillow, only louder this time as he finally opens his eyes, looking out his window where the beautiful gleam of the sun is spilling in. Ty can see the surprisingly very beautiful dust particles swirling in the sun's beams, taking a deep breath as he fully relaxes against his mattress, knowing that he'll have to get up soon to attend to his mother.
Finally kicking the blankets off his body, Ty slowly stumbles out of bed and into his bathroom for a shower. Stripping himself of his clothes, he takes a look in the mirror at his strong, 6'0 frame. Ty brings a hand up to his head and ruffles his brown curly hair tiredly, his usually bright eyes now a dull green from worry and exhaustion.
Turning the hot water on, Ty audibly sighs to himself, feeling somewhat restless. What's wrong with me? He wonders to himself as he steps into the now warmed up shower.
Heaving a sigh of content as the hot water cascades down his body, Ty begins to wash himself clean.
About half an hour later, Ty finds himself in a pair of blue jeans and his favorite black hoodie, slipping on his black sneakers before heading down the stairs.
Since Ty came home last week to look after his mother, Tanya, he's been staying in his old room from his childhood. He was surprised when he came home and saw that his old room hadn't changed in the slightest, but after realizing that Tanya missed him more than he'll ever know, it became less of a shock.
Getting to the bottom of the stairs, Ty is surprised to hear clattering in the kitchen. Ty looks over at the clock on the wall to his left to see that it's now about 8:00 in the morning. His mother shouldn't even be out of bed, let alone making breakfast.
Scurrying into the kitchen, Ty is surprised to see that his suspicions were right. Tanya stands in the kitchen, stirring what looks to be pancake mix while humming a familiar tune to herself that Ty can't remember the name of. Clearing his throat rather loudly, Ty watches as his mother jumps up in surprise before glaring at her son in annoyance.
"Ty! Don't scare me like that, my goodness." Tanya breathes, bringing her hand up to rub at her chest.
"Sorry, Mom. What are you doing out of bed? You're supposed to be resting your back for at least six weeks. You shouldn't be moving around like this." Ty scolds her, knowing good and well this won't be the last time he gets after Tanya for doing something like this, as it definitely isn't the first.
"I'm my own woman, Tyrus, I don't need you scolding me for ignoring the doctor's orders. Now, let me make breakfast in peace!" Tanya starts, returning to stirring the pancake mix.
Ty knows what's really going on with his mother. After finding out Jenelle's daughter went missing, Tanya has been a mess. She just doesn't know what to do with herself, she's so worried.
"Mom, I know you're worried about Jenelle and her daughter, but you have to take it easy. I'm sure everything will work out in the end, but you need to worry about yourself right now. If you do anything too strenuous, you could hurt yourself really bad." Ty lectures his mother, the concern he holds for her evident on his face. The truth is, Ty is also stressed about Jenelle's child missing. Something like that happening in Golden Grove is unheard of.
"Tyrus, that little girl is basically my granddaughter! I can't imagine what Jenelle is going through right now, but I wouldn't know since she won't answer my calls. I mean, just the thought of you going missing scares me to death and you're a 28 year old man! Rosalee is only ten, the poor thing is way too little to defend herself." Tanya rambles nervously, only making herself sick with worry in the process.
"She's ten?" Ty asks Tanya, feeling a flutter of anxiety spread within himself.
"Yes, Jenelle was only 16 when she got pregnant with Rosalee." Tanya informs him, reminding herself that it isn't her place to question if Rosalee is Ty's child or not. She's always had an itching suspicion in the back of her mind that Rosalee is Ty's child, but could never know for sure when Jenelle never spoke about the father.
All the while, Ty's mind is going into overdrive. Ten? Ten years ago I was happily with Jenelle—before she broke up with me, that is. Ty's thoughts run rampant as he finally comes to the conclusion that he needs a breather. He decides a nice walk through Golden Grove wouldn't hurt.
"Mom? Will it be okay to stay home by yourself for a bit? I'm gonna go for a jog around the town. I haven't been here in about four years." Ty asks his mother. It might seem strange that it's been four years since Ty has been home, but normally his mother would come to visit him in New York since he would be too busy with his job as a CEO of a large company to make time for a vacation.
"I'll be fine, Honey. I could use some time to myself anyway." Tanya smiles sadly at Ty, reminding him of her current distress with Jenelle's child missing.
"Alright, I'll be back in a bit." Ty pecks his mother on the cheek before turning on his heel and heading for the front door.
"Be safe, Tyrus!" His mother calls after him, causing him to smile fondly at how protective his mother is of him. She can get so worried over him sometimes, but Ty has never minded it. In fact, he takes comfort in knowing that someone loves him enough to worry about his safety.
Finally making it outside, Ty takes a deep breath of the fresh—though humid—air of Golden Grove. Ty doesn't really have a specific place in mind, he just knows that he needs to clear his head. After hearing that Jenelle's daughter is ten, Ty was shocked. The only way that Jenelle could've gotten pregnant ten years ago is if she found someone right after breaking up with Ty, or maybe she cheated on him?
Or that kid is mine . . . Ty can't help but think to himself, immediately shaking his head to rid himself of that thought. It's not possible, if that child was his there would have been no reason for Jenelle to break up with him, right? She should know more than anyone that Ty would've done anything for her, including giving up his silly dreams to be the parent of their child together.
Not wanting to think about all of this anymore, Ty looks up and takes in his surroundings. After clearing his thoughts, he realizes that he ended up walking to the beach. That wouldn't seem like an odd thing for him to do if it weren't for the simple fact that Jenelle and Ty always spent their free time together on the beach. Ty scoffs at himself before he removes his sneakers so he can walk along the ocean.
Ty sighs in content at the feeling of the sandy floor beneath his bare feet, taking in the scent of the salty air as the gentle breeze caresses his features.
After about 20 minutes of walking, Ty spots something in the distance. Hurrying his steps, he recognizes the figure of a woman sitting down in front of the ocean, staring off into space.
On closer inspection, Ty is surprised to realize that this woman is Jenelle, and goodness does she look awful. Jenelle's usually well kept auburn hair has been forced into a messy top knot, her soft pink lips trembling as fresh tears gently fall down her face. She's looking out into the ocean, but something tells Ty she isn't really seeing it.
Ty isn't sure if he should approach Jenelle, but he notices a feeling of dread take place in his abdomen when he thinks about leaving her alone.
So, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, Ty walks closer.
Jenelle jumps slightly when Ty sits down in the sand next to her. She was so engulfed in her own thoughts that she hadn't noticed Ty's presence until now.
". . . Ty?" Jenelle sniffles, wiping at her eyes with the sleeve of her white cardigan.
"Um . . . hey. Is everything alright?" Ty grimaces at his question, realizing that Jenelle's daughter is missing! Of course everything isn't alright.
"I uh . . . just got done speaking with the police." Jenelle whispers, her eyes welling up with even more tears, if that's possible.
"Oh, what did they say?"
"Ty, they- they can't get the security footage at the grocery store. They're saying that... that whoever took Rosalee somehow meddled with the security cameras. Ty... they have no way of fin- finding her!" Jenelle hiccups, hiding her face in her sleeve covered hands and sobbing into them. She's a wreck, to put it simply. Jenelle has no idea what she can do. She's never felt more helpless in her entire life, like she's been thrown into a ditch with no way out, the walls too steep and high to even dream of climbing them. Every time the police tell her "We're doing all we can, Miss." Jenelle feels another piece of her heart break unevenly, leaving no way to restore it with Rosalee's absent presence.
Jenelle honestly thinks the best way to describe the way she's feeling is like being locked in a small room with no doors or windows, and it's been set aflame. As if no amount of clawing and kicking and punching at the walls will help her escape. Every single time the police tell her they've found nothing that indicates Rosalee's presence, the fire in the escapeless room increases tenfold, hypothetically engulfing Jenelle in the hot flames.
Ty doesn't know what to say. If someone tampered with the security cameras, that can only mean that Jenelle's daughter was, in fact, kidnapped and the thought of a kidnapping taking place in Golden Grove just seems implausible! Yet, here Ty sits, next to a woman whose child has been kidnapped.
Just the mere thought of an innocent and helpless child being dragged away from their family by some kidnapper makes Ty's throat water with the feeling of nausea as a seemingly endless pit of anxiety and dread lodges itself into his stomach. Ty also feels rather helpless in this situation, he just has no idea how to help his ex lover. All Ty knows for certain is that he wants to help her more than anything. Whether it's the fear dripping from her features, or if it's the secret love Ty still holds for Jenelle, he isn't sure. He just knows that he needs to find a way to help Jenelle.
Suddenly, a rather absurd idea strikes Ty's train of thought. He intakes a sharp gasp of air before sharply turning all of his attention to the distressed woman beside him.
"What if we . . . searched for your daughter on our own?"
Jenelle's eyes finally stop watering for a split second as she stares at Ty as if he just grew five extra limbs. She's completely dumbstruck, Jenelle hasn't the slightest clue what to say to the delusional man by her side.
"On our own? Ty, we aren't cops! We don't have the right equipment or any form of self defense, let alone any idea where to even begin!" Jenelle exclaims, making sure Ty is aware of how idiotic he sounds at this moment.
"Jenelle! This is your daughter! We don't need any of those things, all we have to do is try! What if we don't even give this a shot and they never find her? I know you, Jenelle. You'll never forgive yourself." Ty's voice softens at the end of his little speech, his expression gentle as he looks at Jenelle, her eyes having begun to water all over again.
Jenelle is silent for a while as she contemplates Ty's words. He's right, if she doesn't do anything but sit around and wait for the police to find her baby, then can she even consider herself Rosalee's mother? If she doesn't do anything and everything in her power to find her baby girl, is she even a decent parent?
Looking at Ty with eyes full of determination, Jenelle's aura brightens ever so slightly.
"Okay . . ." Jenelle whispers, still staring into Ty's emerald gaze.
"Okay?" Ty questions, making sure he heard Jenelle correctly.
"Okay. Where do we start?"
