The year 2040

Due to a sudden rapid decline in the human population, scientists created a vaccination. The vaccination got sent out and given to all residents, which is when the problems began. Within a week, the effects of the drug started to take effect fully, and that is when scientists announced the new 'Secondary Gender.'

The Secondary Gender was only available to those over the age of 13 - it settled once a person's pheromones fully developed. Some people could tell from a young age but had to wait for identification; others had no clue until the results returned. The Secondary Gender could make or break a person, so the vaccination became a curse to some.

The Secondary Genders were as follows:

Alpha

An Alpha was superior to the secondary gender classification. Moreover, it was the gender that most people wanted to be. 

An Alpha typically towered over everyone. They were average 6ft tall or over, robust, muscular and fierce. A female Alpha will have both male and female genitals; however, they can never carry a child themselves. An Alpha male has only Male genitals that are large and have a knot. 

An Alpha's strength can be detected by the power of their pheromone - if another Alpha is weaker, the more potent Alpha can dominate the other; this can typically turn dangerous. 

An Alpha typically has a rut every three months, although an Omegas heat can trigger it. When an Alpha has paired or bonded with another, they will no longer react the same way to other Omegas pheromones.

Beta

A Beta is in the middle of the secondary gender chain. If you are a Beta, you are similar to what you were before the vaccination. 

Betas are usually around average height, weight and strength. A male Beta can't get pregnant, but a female beta can. 

Betas have a very light scent, usually very mild or hardly noticeable. Betas can scent Alphas and Omegas, but they don't react similarly. Betas don't have a rut or Heat.   

Omegas

An Omega was at the bottom of the secondary gender classification. As a result, omegas often considered themselves the cursed of the three. An Omega is typically very submissive and nurturing; they take care of those they love and protect them to the best of their ability. 

An Omega is typically very petite; they are around 5ft-5.5ft, stunning and have wider hips for childbirth. A male and Female Omega have the typical 'gender' genitals; however, they can get pregnant. 

An Omega's pheromone is usually sweet and overwhelming - the pheromone will become stronger when over-emotional or in Heat. 

An Omegas heat happens once a month; however, it can happen unexpectedly by Alphas in a rut or an overbearing Alpha pheromone. An Omegas heat will give them a higher chance of conceiving, which is why they will seek out a partner for that need - if an Omega doesn't successfully conceive, they will bleed for a day or two after their Heat. 

Omegas had an unpredictability about them which meant that society didn't accept them within the workplace. So the only available jobs for an Omega would be in a pleasure club.

Alphas Rut:

A rut is a short period where an Alpha will seek out a partner to 'mate'. During this time, the Alpha will become highly aggressive and dominant and want to conceive a child. As a result, the Alpha is more likely to Knot during their Rut. 

Omegas Heat:

An Omega will have their Heat once a month; generally, they have a higher chance of successfully conceiving. This is when the Omega will seek out their Alpha to mate. If the Omega does not get pregnant during the process, they will bleed for two days after their Heat is over. 

Heat/Rut Suppressants:

Suppressants are pills or self-injections to control/stop a heat/rut from happening. Suppressants, however, are very expensive, so only Omegas with parents or partners can get them.

Alpha Knot:

When an Alpha knots an omega, his penis expands and catches onto the Omega's womb. It can be excruciating for the Omega and can last from 10 minutes to an hour; an Alpha can't remove their penis during this time. However, the process ensures that the Omega takes all of the Alpha's semen, increasing pregnancy risk.

Marking:

A marking is when an Alpha bites an Omega's nape, precisely on top of the scent gland. The bite will introduce an Alpha's pheromone to the Omega, which means that the Omega will smell like their Alpha, which would warn off others. A marking is a very personal and private thing — it is like a bond between an Omega and Alpha that is unbreakable.

Temporary Mark:

A temporary mark is when an Alpha will bite just below the nape of the Omega. Their upper canines will penetrate the scent glad, which will introduce the Alpha's pheromone to the Omegas bloodstream; however, because it's not a full bite, the mark won't be permanent, and the pheromones won't entirely stay in the bloodstream. Depending on the Alpha and Omega's bond, the effect can last up to three months.

Bonded/Fated Mate:

A Bonded/Fated Mate is rare within the Omegaverse. Those that meet their Bonded/Fated Mate will feel a connection to the other. Some feel the connection straight away, whilst it can take a while or never surface for others. A Bonded/Fated Mate is more potent than a typical marking. Although the pair will typically Mark each other, the bond will already be so deep that the mark is unnecessary. When Alpha and Omega have paired, they will not be able to spend too much time apart without falling sick. They will also not be able to have sex with anyone else as their body will reject it. - Some Bonded/Fated pairs have been able to speak to each other telepathically, but that's only for those 100% compatible.

Claws:

An Omega will sometimes have claws; however, they usually only extend when mating or if angry. Their claws hold scent glands which, when used during sex, can mark their Alpha for a short time.
