Mako yelled as soon as he saw Bolin. The smiling face of the young boy turned upside down. Bolin mumbled, “I want to make sure you're alright. Is that too much to ask?” He said.
“I just…I… I’m worried,” Mako sighed. He glanced at his wrists that were now free from the handcuff. Temporarily. He collapsed on the chair, “I don’t know who will take care of you while I’m here.”
“Hey, don’t say that. I can take care of myself. You don’t have to worry about me.” Bolin smiled.
“You’re just a kid.”
“Mom and dad?”
“Yes.”
Mako scratched his head. “Like mom dad. I’m sorry. I’m terrible at giving a description.”
“But you always know what they look like, right?”
They didn’t know what was going on. The ceiling broke down and started to fall. Mako launched forward, trying to push Bolin to one side before realised Bolin was catching the rocks in the mid-air.
Did they join Amon’s side, or did they just want to use the chaos to enter the building?
The metalbenders police and Tarrlok’s task force were trying to hold them back. The howl was getting louder and louder and Mako realised people had entered the building. He glanced at Bolin. If the people want to look for a fight, they must be ready. But they seem to ignore the two brothers. The people that got into the building were calling names and searching different rooms. Perhaps they just want to look for their family.
“What do we do?” Bolin said.
“Let’s get out of here.” More dust had fallen on Mako’s shoulders. He didn’t like the idea of breaking jail, but he didn’t sure how long the building was going to last if it kept shaking like this.
They went through different hallways until they ran into familiar faces.
“Korra! Asami! You’re safe.” Bolin screamed excitedly and tackled them with a big hug.
Asami, on the other hand, didn’t look excited. She pushed Bolin away, replied coldly, “Let’s get out of here.”
“Is she alright?” Bolin asked.
Korra bit her lip, “We’re trying to search for Hiroshi, but he’s already gone.”
“It shouldn’t be a surprise,” Mako growled.
“No. But it didn’t mean she won’t get upset.” Korra ran after Asami.
The boys caught up with them. They walked together in awkward silence until they made it to the main entrance. When they thought that the uncomfortable was finally over, Mako suddenly stopped and the group bumped into him from behind.
“Make a warning next time, can’t you?” Korra growled but Mako quickly covered her mouth. He shifted his attention to the front yard.
In front of the exit door, Tarrlok and Amon were facing each other.
“Amon! How dare you come here with your army?” Tarrlok snarled. For the first time, he didn’t smile. His face portrayed the true feeling with his words. Angry.
“Making progress,” Amon muttered, calmly walking toward the fountain. His voice was cold and hoarse as usual, “You’re such a fool, Tarrlok, but I should thank you. Your ignorance has created quite a stir, which exactly is what I need. And now, I finally able to reach for bigger preys.”
Tarrlok glanced at the fights outside the building, narrowed his eyes. “What next? Do you want to target leaders of Republic city?” He dared, “I’m not afraid of you. But I don’t understand what all of this is about. Equalist? Take away bending? What are you trying to do, Noatak? Do you want to play god?"
Amon didn't respond to the old name. His eyes were still gazing at the gleaming waters.
“Answer me!” Tarrlok yowled.
“It's been a while since I heard that name," Amon muttered, closing his eyes. Then he turned around, his eyes returned to the cold blue ice, “I saw things that you can only dream of, Tarrlok. I knew what had happened. And now that I was gifted with this ancient power, it is my destiny to fulfil what has left undone thousand years ago.”
“And what about you? You use your title to imprison anyone you like, just because you have the power to do so.” Amon took a step forward, “When you’re learnt that Amon is me, you become more reckless because you know that if anyone finds out we’re brother, you might lose your precious position.”
Tarrlok clenched his fist, but he didn’t reply.
Amon played with the levitating water like it was some sort of bubble, "Maybe you’re right, Tarrlok. I want power, just like dad, but you’re not different from me. We’re just two foolish brothers who turned out to be exactly the person we didn’t want to be.”
The bubble suddenly shot at Tarrlok like an arrow. The councilman barely dodged the attack. It cut his face, and blood dripped to the ground. Tarrlok looked at him angrily, but the elder brother didn't even look at Tarrlok. He calmly played with his new bubble that was now forming in his hand.
“But I have come this far.” Amon whispered, “I have come so far. I will not stop until I get what I want, even it means to destroy my only brother.”
