After tossing and turning so much, Mengyao lay awake and frowned. Why couldn’t he sleep?
Everytime he closed his eyes, he saw Longwei in the arms of a woman whose skin was as pale as jade and hair as black as the night. It made him sick to his stomach for some reason. Why?
Mengyao decided to get up, dress himself and go toward the koi pond. He looked to the sky and saw it was a new moon that night. He wished it was the full moon but what could he do about it.
He sat in front of it and took out the black tassel. He pondered a bit and had an idea.
He sat straight up and held his hand out as the tassel began to float and illuminate with magic. He knew he didn’t use his magic often but if he was to find out who murdered his family, he figured it’d be best to start.
He sat at the koi pond for what seems like hours until he was sure the tassel took all the magic it could take. The tassel then floated back down to his open palm and he clutched it. He smiled as he opened his eyes.
“Not too bad,” he said to himself as he got up.
As he walked back to his room, he overheard voices heading toward him. Instinctually, he decided to hide. The voices sounded familiar.
Was that Luli and Madame Tung-Mei?
“Are you sure this is what you want?” he heard Madame Tung-Mei ask.
“I’m sure. It’s important to me. I told Madame everything I needed to,” Luli responded. “I’ve also spoken to Peizhi about this.”
What was going on?
“I see. Alright,” Madame Tung-Mei said. “We will discuss more when the day comes.”
Mengyao was so confused. What was going on? He watched as Luli walked by. He reached out to stop her but he then felt a hand touch his arm. He looked to Tung-Mei who shook her head.
“I don’t understand, My Lady. What’s going on with Luli? Is she in trouble? Is there anything I can do to stop it? Please don’t fire her! She’s the best chef we have!” Mengyao started spouting, almost faster than his brain could think.
Madame Tung-Mei shook her head again. “I wish i could discuss it with you, Yao’er. But it’s something Miss Luli asked me to keep my mouth shut about. She said she’ll explain it to you when she can,” Madame Tung-Mei said.
Mengyao looked at the ground. What was going on with Luli? Was she going to be fired? Or was she going to be married off? And what did Peizhi have to do with it? He had so many questions that needed answers!
“Head back to your room. We will talk more in the morning,” Madame Tung-mei commented, waving her hand.
“My lady.”
Mengyao bowed to her as he headed back toward his room. This was bad. How could he sleep knowing that Luli and Peizhi were being tossed out?! And the fact Madame Tung-Mei refused to speak about it almost confirmed it in his mind. He sighed and changed into his sleepwear. In the morning, he was going to ask Luli what was going on and why Peizhi was involved.
