Sinner's Stones - Sacrifice

Like two peas in a pod P2

Like two peas in a pod P2

Aug 30, 2021

After the twins got out of the room and Edhas fixed the door, Arian freed Edhas from his grasp. Curious eyes were watching him, expecting explanations for his disappearance. On the other hand, Edhas didn't seem thrilled to see them. For him, the group's presence wasn't but an inconvenience.

"Aren't you going to answer? Where were you?" Jaimin asked, clearly bothered by the fact that Edhas was just staying there, looking at them without saying anything.

"I don't see why I have to answer such a question."

"Keep acting smart and I'll show you why!" Veida snapped at him. She couldn't control her anger anymore. Rosabella held her back so she wouldn't actually attack Edhas. Edhas didn't seem affected by her words at all, just blankly looking at her.

"Right. Well, if you must know I traveled a little bit, made a new team."

"We are your team!" Devain said infuriated by his brother's decision to replace them.

"Not anymore. Our goals are no longer the same."

"So you decided to form a team with two second-hand thieves?" Rosabella asked, clearly looking down on his newfound teammates. Edhas couldn't care less.

"Second-hand thieves with powerful magic and the perfect sins, actually." He clarified, not wanting anyone to make fun of his team.

"Whatever you want to call them, ditch them and come back to us."

"No can do. We already made a deal."

"You're not intending to find and use the Stones for yourself, are you?" Jaimin asked the question that was in everyone's mind. Making a deal was a big deal and breaking it would have serious consequences. If this was the case, they couldn't force Edhas to leave the twins.

They knew that Edhas was thinking about taking the Stones for a long time. He had some attempts in the past, but he never succeeded because he didn't take it seriously. His old teammates believed that he'll give up eventually, but Edhas' silence was an answer in itself. Things were different this time.

"Have you gone mad?"

"Do you even know the consequences your actions will have?" Rosabella tried to reason with him, even though she knew that it was in vain.

"I am aware, yes. Look, we went through this before. You say I'm crazy, we fight a little bit and I give up. I'm not coming back this time."

"Why?" Devain asked quietly.

"Why what?" Edhas asked, pretending not to know what his brother meant by his question.

"WHY DO YOU DO THIS EVERY TIME? WHO GIVES YOU THE RIGHT? YOU'RE ACTING SELFISH AGAIN!"

"SHUT UP! SHUT YOUR MOUTH! THEY'RE MINE! I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO MAKE THAT WISH!"

"Edhas, calm down. Let's talk about it." Arian, who was silent until then, reached for Edhas' shoulder in an attempt to calm him down, but he snatched himself from his grip. Edhas was trembling with anger, his eyes glowing red. A red aura started to surround him.

"NO! NO MORE TALKING. THIS TIME I WON'T LET YOU DO AS YOU PLEASE!" Edhas looked accusingly at the group surrounding him. All of them, except for Devain, took a step back, waiting for his next move. The women took out their weapons, ready to attack or defend themselves. Edhas looked his brother in the eyes, then he grabbed Devain's spear, wanting to take it. Devain tried to keep his weapon, but Edhas pointed his own spear at his brother's chest. The red aura that surrounded Edhas gathered at the end of the spear, propelling Devain through the door, making him let go of the spear. Everyone in the room was shocked, not expecting Edhas to attack his brother. This was a bad sign, a sign that this time he was serious and will not back down.

Now, no one knew what to expect from Edhas. He looked at his brother's face for a while and then retreated his spear from under Devain's chin.

"Don't you ever say that I am selfish again." Edhas said in a serious voice. Devain only looked at him without saying anything. He was stupefied by his twin brother's attitude towards him. They fought in the past, but Edhas was never serious. He knew that if he were to start fighting Edhas right now, his chances to win were slim. Especially since he took his spear.

Edhas moved his attention to the twins. He felt his anger dissipate when he saw that his new companions had their swords in their hands, ready to take his side.

"Rohan, catch!" He said as he threw Devain's spear in his direction. The sudden motion surprised Rohan, who dropped his sword to catch the spear. When his hands touched it, the spear gloved orange and transformed itself in a beautiful sword with orange signs on the sides.

"Thanks?" He said, not knowing what else he should say.

"You can't do this!" Veida protested. Giving such a powerful weapon to someone who was a nobody in her eyes didn't sit well with her.

"I just did." Edhas said as a matter of fact. Nothing they say now will change the fact that the spear was now Rohan's. He moved his hand in the air and the pieces of the door gathered themselves from under Devain and assembled themselves together. Edhas put the door back in its place.
"Now, get out of my room before I make you."

Arian left the room on his own, but the women refused to leave until they finished their conversation with Edhas. The man assured them that their conversation was over. The women still didn't want to leave, so Edhas moved his spear in a circular way and in a second he was behind them. They didn't even have time to react, because Edhas moves his spear again and suddenly they were outside the room. They began to protest, but Edhas ignored them and entered the room with the twins.

"Next time we see each other, we'll be enemies." Was all he said before closing the door. The group of five people remained looking dejected at the door. This was a declaration of war, a war they couldn't afford to lose. Arian helped Devain get up from the floor and the group went to their room. It was time they came up with a new plan.

Inside the room, Edhas jumped on the bed, ready to relax after the tense encounter.

"Well, that went well." He said, trying to lighten the mood. Rohan was studying his sword and wasn't really interested in Edhas, but if looks could kill, Jessalyin would have killed him already. He innocently smiled at her.

"Please, enlighten me, what part of all of this went well?"

"Well, nobody was hurt. Isn't this good?"

"You threw your brother through a door."

"Just a scratch. He'll be fine."

"You just declared war on them." She continued to point out what went wrong.

"They would have tried to get in our way anyway." Edhas defended himself again.

"You stole Devain's spear and somehow it's now a sword."

"It wasn't his to begin with. And besides, Rohan loves it. Right, Rohan?" Edhas asked Rohan, but he was busy trying out his new weapon. He was moving it in the air to test its compatibility with his style of fighting. It was the perfect fit, as if it was forged especially for him.

"Rohan stop fooling around, you're going to destroy something. You should pay attention to-" She stopped in the middle of her sentence, looking shocked "Oh my Aahlaad! Your eyes are glowing!"

"What?!" Rohan stopped playing with the sword and put a hand to his eyes. This didn't help it at all. Edhas conjured him a mirror so he could see for himself. His eyes were glowing a bright orange.

"What is going on?" Jessalyin asked Edhas, knowing that he had the answer. After all, his eyes glowed red sometimes. Seeing that Edhas wasn't panicking or at least looked worried about what was going on, she was sure that the glowing eyes weren't a bad sign. At least she hoped they weren't.

"It's because of the sword. Don't worry, they'll stop glowing after some time. For now, just put it away." Edhas said calmly. Rohan did as he was instructed and put the sword in the sheath. His eyes stopped glowing. He was going to pay attention to the conversation from now on.

"Do I even have to tell you that we're waiting for some kind of explanation?"

"There's not much to say, really. Those guys and I were a team trying to find the Stones, but I have a different wish and they're mad about it."

"What wish do you have, anyway?" Rohan asked, curious about Edhas' wish. He felt like he should know the answer, because they were trying to find the Stones so he could make that wish. If something were to go wrong, they would also be responsible.

"If I told you, you wouldn't want to help me anymore." Edhas answered without looking at them. The twins examined the green eyed man, unsure of what they should say. Rohan didn't know if he should be worried or not, but decided that he'll think about it when the time came. Jessalyin changed the subject.

"So, what are we going to do now? We'll have to travel with them for almost a week."

"We'll stay here." Edhas snapped his fingers and a third bed appeared in front of the door. He knew that if he didn't do this, Jessalyin will fight with him for a place to sleep. The woman seemed pleased with his actions.

"Sounds good to me. I really don't want to bump into that Jaimin again. She gives me the creeps." Rohan said, thinking about the woman and the way she made him obey her wishes. Edhas started to laugh when he heard this.

"Out of all of them, Jaimin is the one to give you the creeps." He said amused.

"She hypnotized me to get to you!"

"She enhanced you, actually. And it's your fault. You should know to never stare into a woman's eyes. It's rude." He said, shrugging.

"I'll never look at her face again. Arian seemed pretty chill though." Rohan pointed out, thinking about the man that didn't seem interested in fighting or threatening them. Mostly, he tried to stop the fighting.

"Yeah, he didn't seem to want to attack us." Jessalyin continued her brother's idea. Out of the five of them, Arian seemed to be the only one who didn't want to pick a fight with them. She wanted to know if he was one of Edhas' allies or if there was a chance he was on their side.

"He just didn't want to fight because he's my..." Edhas stopped in the middle of his sentence when he saw that the twins were looking at him with knowing faces, smirking at him. He felt embarrassed. They must have misunderstood what he was going to say, but he didn't think that it was mandatory to correct them. A guard and a lover were basically the same thing anyway. He fake coughed and continued "Anyway, he is not on our side, so don't expect any help from him."

"Ah, forbidden love." Jessalyin said, pretending to wipe an imaginary tear.

"Still a better love story than 'The lady and the dragon'." Rohan did the same gesture as his sister, then the twins looked at each other and laughed. It was a well-known joke that started from a book about a courtesan that fell in love with the dragon that captured her. The book had some questionable scenes that weren't for the ones with weak hearts and it rapidly became the worst love story known to man. Edhas didn't seem to understand the reference. He looked confused at the twins.

"What's that even supposed to mean?" Edhas asked very confused about the twins' joke. Seeing that Edhas didn't understand, the pair of siblings started laughing even harder. Edhas began to feel awkward. "It's not a forbidden love, alright? Nevermind. I am going to sleep. Good night!" He said and covered himself with the blanket that was on the bed.

"It's six in the afternoon."

"I said good night."

The twins started to laugh again when they saw how confused and embarrassed Edhas was. Understanding that he will not give them any more details, they decided to wait until the next day. They went to their beds to relax, feeling tired after everything that happened.
