Moonlight
I opened my eyes as I heard the voices of my mom and dad discussing about the stuffs they were to pack for their trip. They were leaving today.
Mom hasn't been talking to me well for the last three days and I couldn't do anything special for her to get her out of her anger.
I haven't seen Josh since the last three days either. I wonder where he was and if he found someone better who could help him. I wouldn't mind that honestly. I would feel free.
I crawled out of my bed and walked towards the window to open the curtains. I stretched myself out and found myself looking at the weird house again. I decided I shouldn't be bothering myself and decided to go and take a shower.
After I was done, I quickly dressed up and went to see what mom and dad were up to.
"Are you guys done packing? Need some help?" I asked as I stood leaning forward, holding on the sides of the door frame of their bedroom.
"No thanks, we are almost done." Mom said without looking up to me as she busily packed her stuffs in the bag.
"Get yourself some breakfast, Moonlight. Your mom and I already had." Dad said with a smile.
"Alright then, I will go and have some breakfast." I said and ran towards the kitchen.
I ate the food my mom had prepared, enjoying every moment of it as food is life. My mom was a great cook too or every mom is for their kids.
I was done with my breakfast and was drinking water when my parents came our of their room to leave.
I stood up to ask, "Are you guys leaving?"
"Yes hun." My dad replied.
I helped them to carry their stuffs outside. My dad put them in the car and was ready to go.
I hugged my dad and he got inside the car after giving me a kiss on the forehead. I hugged my mom even if I knew she was quite angry with me.
"Don't be mad at me okay? Enjoy your vacation." I said after pulling myself back from the hug.
She smiled finally after three days of the grumpy expression and said, "Take care alright? I will miss you."
"I will miss you guys more." We hugged one more time and she gave me a kiss on my cheek and got inside the car.
I waved them goodbye and watched their car disappear in the distance.
"So shall we begin our mission? The clock is ticking." I jumped slightly hearing Josh's voice suddenly.
I turned around and saw him standing behind me.
I sighed and said, "More like your mission."
"But you're helping me so our mission." He replied.
I shook my head in annoyance and walked inside the house. Josh followed me too.
As soon as I got inside my room, I sat on my bed and opened my laptop to do a research.
"What are you doing?" Josh asked standing beside me and looking at the laptop curiously.
"Researching." I replied as I started typing words on Google search box.
"Uh... You got an assignment?" He asked.
I knew I had to explain what I was doing thoroughly so that he would stop disturbing me. "My plan is, I research about ghosts and see what I can find."
"I already said I am not a ghost, I am still a soul."
I raised my eyebrows with a blank expression as an answer to what he said.
"Yeah okay, I am ghost to you but what can you really get from the Internet? It's not like, this kinda stuff happen to most of the people in this world." He said sounding upset.
As I studied the search results, he was right. There was nothing but all nonsense fake websites. They looked like websites that insert viruses in the laptop. I was careful to not click on any of those links.
I don't know why but I kept scrolling to look for something which I know wouldn't exist. I wanted something that could make sense to what's going on.
A picture of an ancient
looking book which had weird zig zag patterns on it's cover and looked
like it was made out of wood caught my eyes. I clicked on the the link
and it leaded me to to website called, "www.timeworn.com".
I got closer to the screen in the hope I would get some information out of the website.
As the page appeared, the book was now shown in a bigger picture and had some things written about it below it's picture.
It read, "This witchcraft book is said to contain all the truth about life and death. It has informations about all the antique stories which dealt with ghosts, spirits and witches. It is said that there are only three copies of it in the world and is luckily still preserved in some museums for people to witness."
I tried to see if any of the museums located in our town had the copy of it. Luckily I could spot one museum of our town that claimed to have the copy of it.
"Hey Josh, come see this." I called Josh and noticed he was looking outside the window in silence.
He walked closer and read the article carefully.
"Wow, what's that?" He asked and looked shocked at the same time.
"This might be our chance, we have to go and look for this book. I noted down the location." I told him as a small light of hope flickered inside me.
"What if this is just a lie and even if it's not... The owners of the museum won't let us touch anything or won't let you touch anything." He was right but it wasn't bad to try.
"You're right but what other options do we have? What other ways can we think of to get you out of your trouble?" I thought these questions could talk some sense to him.
He looked down, thought for a while and said, "Okay... We should check it out once. Like you said, it might find us a way."
"Yeah we have little time so we have to do it as soon as possible." I informed.
"Yes... Should we go later? To check the book out? I mean if you're free." I wanted to laugh at his questions, he doesn't know that I never really have plans.
"Yeah sure, we can go after lunch. I need to eat to fuel myself up to solve the mystery like a true detective." I said.
Josh smiled on hearing that. Everytime he smiled, I forgot that he was not alive and that he was just a soul looking for his body.
