The next morning Carren and Sorel ate together. Carren was a good cook, but Sorel took cooking as his hobby, a hobby which results with open windows and fire alarms. So they ended up with something tossed together with whatever could be salvaged from Sorel’s… food and Carren’s skills. Sorel felt a little awkward from the previous night so couldn’t speak, but luckily Carren spoke up.
“How does it taste? Delicious? Well of course it would be delicious, I made it.”
Sorel got a little agitated over Carren’s overconfidence (he knows it's true though) and replied back.
“Just because you cooked some decent food, doesn’t mean i can’t do better.”
Sorel looked unamused for a second then his expression immediately changed into a warm smile.
“Of course, my Sorel’s food is unparalleled and there is not a single person who could make black toast as tasty as you.”
A tomato, a cute tomato, that’s how Carren would’ve described Sorel’s current face. Sorel blushed, sitting there stunned at what Carren said. Not about what he said about the food though, but instead how he said “my”.
“How come you're so red?” Carren spoke and smirked, looking amused at Sorel’s reaction. However, Sorel couldn’t tell him why, the thought was too embarrassing for him to reveal to anyone, or at the very least, not his lover. So he dodged the question by just eating the food faster than a starved dog and choked.
Carren’s reaction was immediate, he got some water, checked up on Sorel, and had a worried expression the whole way through.
“I just joked a bit, what are you being so fussy about?!?” Sorel questioned while Carren was making Sorel look like a terminal illness patient.
As Sorel said this, Carren’s eyes drooped down a little and apologized. They then got ready to leave and put on their shoes, as Sorel was about to open the door, Carren stopped him.
“I can’t do this when we leave, so bear with me for a second.”’
“Huh? Carren what are you-” Before Sorel could finish his sentence Carren gave him a quick kiss and then pulled him into his embrace. Putting his head next to Sorel’s neck, inhaling his scent.
“Sorel recharging.”
“Sorel what?”
“It got awkward last night so I didn't get enough Sorel, I need some now or I’m seriously gonna die.”
“So you know it got awkward! If you don’t want it to happen again, don’t come back home looking like a punching bag!” Carren looked annoyed for a second on how that was all Sorel picked up, but deep inside was ecstatic by how much Sorel cared for him.
“Yea yea, whatever you say, just stay here for a minute.”
Sorel was about to open his mouth and make Carren promise, but he didn’t want to restrict his partner, nor did he want Carren to find him annoying. So they stayed for another minute and then left for their separate classes.
Carren took his first class without ever picking up his pencil, turning his professor's words into white noise. Like the TV news you leave in the background when sleeping, probably somewhat useful or important, but not prioritized. During the time his lecture was the “news”, he thought about the face Sorel showed when he came back with his injuries. The way Sorel smiled and took care of him, but looked extremely pained at the same time. Carren wanted to hug him in a crushing hug and tell him everything, everything. But he didn’t, for he thought that if he did, Sorel would resent and hate him with all of his heart.
When his class was over he went out, heading to the cafeteria for a walk, making a few stops to talk to a few friends and classmates. He decided to take a longer route midway through, because it was much more isolated and contained less people who would try to talk to him. Part of the way through, he heard some shouting. At first he ignored it, but when he listened closely he ran straight to the source. While he was travelling to the yelling, he was sure he wasn’t wrong. It was definitely Sorel’s voice and another unknown man.
“Hey! Let go!”
“If you make another noise I won’t go easy on you.”
Carren arrived and saw what was happening, Sorel was being attacked by a brute and Carren was ready to jump in. But before he could, Sorel whispered something under his breath.
“...”
What did he say? His words weren’t loud enough to be audible and his mouth barely opened. Whatever he said, after he whispered it, his whole atmosphere changed. The air around him felt denser and… intimidating. Even his expression changed.
Before Sorel could do anything though, Carren went in and single handedly stopped the man, then took Sorel behind the wall, putting him on the floor to check any injuries.
“Are you okay? Where are you hurt? I’ll kill that-”
“Will you shut up!?” Sorel spoke back with a loud shout, completely out of character. He looked annoyed, and he didn’t seem to hold any regard to who Carren was.
“Sorel…?” Carren questioned Sorel’s odd behaviour, looking at him oddly. Carren doesn’t need a perfect lover who is kind all the time, but Sorel’s change was unexpected and odd.
“Who are you?” Sorel spoke, clearly not pretending.
“What do you mean ‘who are you’? I’m your lover, your boyfriend! This isn’t the time to joke around!”
“Ah, you must be Carren.” Before anyone could speak Sorel looked a little dizzy, and felt a little lightheaded.
“Sorel? SOREL?!?” Carren shouted, with worry evident in his voice. Just a few seconds after though, Sorel was back to normal again.
“I’m okay, I’m okay.” Sorel said, trying to calm down his partner.
“What do you mean you're okay? Clearly not, you just asked me who I was for god's sake!”
Sorel retaliated, doing his best to make Carren know he's okay. Carren wouldn't do that though, Sorel was Carren's entire life and he wasn't gonna let him get hurt. Though not a perfect solution, they agreed on going home together. Upon arriving, Carren made sure to check every nook and cranny of Sorel. both praying that there wouldn't be even a single scratch. For Carren, this was because he didn't want Sorel to be hrt, for Sorel, he didn'twantCarrem to make a fuss.
Once the check was over, Carren spoke.
"what did you mean by what you said earlier?"
