Toby and Amelia arrived, bringing in a rectangular bathroom mirror, then hanging it on a wall. Leticia observed the intimate appearance of the office when she sat down in one of the comfortable chairs. Waiting until Mara, Chantel, and Darren settled down, Amelia whispered a voice command, and the mirror became foggy. It did not take long for Leticia to realize that this large mirror was a Mirror Interface, another method of communication that supernaturals use. It is the only communication tool that government agencies cannot snoop on them.
This fog became clear as a girl, and boy appeared in the mirror. The girl had long, black hair, wearing a long, white sweater and gray legging with boots, and the boy with dirty blonde hair in dreadlocks. He was wearing a dirty, dark green sweater, white kitchen apron, and gray work pants. The two of them were sitting in chairs at an unknown location to the group. When Leticia recognized the girl, she jumped out of her chair.
“Cho!” she called to the girl, who was cheerfully waving at her.
“Jesse!” Chantel leaned over to the mirror, then Leticia saw Darren followed with her.
There were sighs of relief and smiles coming from the two of them.
“Konnichiwa! Leticia, thank gosh you’re alright!” Cho giggled, showing her signature big smile on her face.
Leticia wanted to cry when she heard the girl’s voice in the mirror. She did not care what language Cho greeted her in, Japanese or Korean. It was just nice to hear her light-hearted voice again. One good thing when Leticia finally arrived here was getting in contact with a familiar face back home. After an emotional reunion, the group talked to their former friends back home.
As they chatted, Cho and Jesse kept them up to date on what they missed since they left Clare Point View. Leticia thought about one thing: What happened to the rest of her bandmates after The Apple Queens disbanded?
“Well, Kiki went to work at an art gallery. I think she moved out of Clare Point View. Dakota is still around and Raleigh… she just disappeared,” Cho’s eyes darted away from Leticia’s when she brought up Raleigh, her rhythm guitarist who she last saw, acting like a robot.
“What do you mean? She’s gone?” The former guitarist knew that something was up with one of her bandmates.
It all had to do with the bastards that put them in this situation.
“Well, Ray Ray got mean and became distant to everyone after the band disbanded, then she started dating Jason…”
“Woah, Woah, Jason?! She’s dating fucking Jason?! You mean that creepy guy that I tried to tell motherfucking Mr. Nico ass Travolo about being a predatory asshole?!” Chantel yelled, pounding the table as everything on the table from the teacups and table decors shake and nearly fell over.
“Wait, you had a problem with Jason too?” Leticia gasped, her eyes motioning over at the girl.
“He made very uncomfortable advances towards me. That’s why Linda told Darren or Jesse to come with me whenever I worked with that asshole.”
“All that is true. The dude always gave me a bad vibe and I don’t know why Nico still kept him around despite all the complaints we sent him. Jason is just a creepy guy,” Darren added.
After the boy said that, his friend Jesse nodded in agreement.
Leticia bit her lip and muttered under breath, “Fucking asshole…” Turning her attention back to Cho, she asked, “and you haven’t been in contact with Ray since you last talked to her?”
Frowning and shaking her head, the girl told her, “I haven’t been in contact with her since the band disbanded. I guess she is busy, but Ray Ray isn't being herself at all.”
Leticia knew the complete story of what happened to Raleigh. On that horrible day of their final interview, she met with both the leader of The Rise of Light, Farris Barton, who she had previously known him as Mikel Richardson and that two-faced corporate executive ass, Nico Travolo. That was the day Nico gave her this awful deal: Sell Darren and Chantel out and keep quiet about the Crimson Music Group's illegal activities or lose everything that her band had worked for. She also remembered how horrified she was, seeing her cold, robotic controlled rhythm guitarist Raleigh egging on her to keep this disgusting secret clearly not herself at all. Leticia also recalled and witnessing her bandmate's last moments fighting her mind control, still reaching out to her help. There was nothing she could do but sit in her chair and watch helplessly as Raleigh's mind slip away. Everything in that moment broke Leticia's heart into a thousand pieces at that very moment, feeling powerless to do anything. Of course, before the former guitarist and leader couldn't decide on the deal in time, everything went up into flames, anyway. Leticia opened her mouth and admitted, “Cho… There is something bad that happened on that day. Mr. Travolo did something horrible to Ray…”
She did not tell her band the complete story. Before all this shit went down, she hoped after that interview on that day, she would explain everything to her band. The Apple Queens would just go on hiatus and work on getting out of that shitty label, but Kiki messed up her plans, and now the chances to saving Raleigh became lower. Watching Cho’s face, Leticia noticed her eyes were twitching in annoyance.
“What do you mean she was drugged?! Leticia, how much stuff did you keep from us?!”
“Cho, I had suspicions that Nico and Jason drugged her using this weird, magic, mind control drink at our last meeting. I told Dakota, but there wasn't any time to tell everything at once! That bastard confirmed this to me before the interview. They did that to her! He used Raleigh as leverage to keep me quiet!”
Observing, Cho looked down at her lap, not saying a single word back to the girl.
Jesse stayed silent when he listened to what Leticia just told them. He opened his mouth and said, “I think what happened to Raleigh may have been the same going on with Linda…”
“Now to think about it, Linda fired me out of the blue,” Chantel said.
“She what?!” Both Jesse and Darren exclaimed when she admitted that.
“Then that’s all the more reason for Jessica to help us!” Cho exclaimed in a higher tense tone.
“What? You mean that reporter girl? What makes you think she would help any of us!?” Leticia got up from her seat and leaned over to the mirror.
“Because it would help everyone see the truth! Why do you and Dakota just want to give up?!”
“I don’t want to give up! I just don’t want you deep into this!”
“It’s too late for that when you just keep secrets from us!”
The former guitarist watched her friend getting up from her seat and lean close to the mirror on her side aggressively.
The brooding cloud in Cho’s eyes scared Leticia, making her sit back in her chair promptly. She said nothing back to the angry girl, but only looked back at her in shock. It was very rare for Cho to be defensive. From the fans, they knew her as this cherry and sweet girl, but when she was with her band, she can be assertive when she needs to be. Leticia knew she deserved Cho calling her out for keeping things from them.
Had she told her band from the very beginning, things would have been different. Watching Cho sit back down, Jesse just sat there awkwardly and moved his chair to speak to Darren and Chantel. For Darren and Chantel’s turn, they mostly talked about what happened since the NorthEasters disbanded. Jesse's updates were: what happened to Linda, their manager, Robert’s disappearance, and constant vandalism that Jesse’s family had to deal with. Leticia saw the two looking down at the ground in shame, but then they perked up when Jesse told them his reasons for helping Cho were for the same goal they had: clearing their names.
Suddenly, the mirror interface's screen got really spotty as the picture of Cho and Jesse started fading away.
“Um, can you please hurry it up and end the communication? The Mirror Interface’s connection isn’t going to last too long.” Toby warned the group, then the three of them nodded.
The group ended their conversation quickly. Before the pictures of Cho and Jesse faded away, Jesse waved bye to them and Cho mumbled, “Goodbye.” After the call finished, Leticia felt bad since she did not blame Cho for being furious at her. Before getting up from the chair, Mara cleared her throat, which put all the attention on her.
“I hope you all rest up for today because tomorrow we are going to Town Hall," The woman announced, then opened the office door.
“Um… May I ask for what reason?” Leticia questioned.
Mara’s face appeared stern and said bluntly, “To state your case to both the mayors of Melicona and City Square. Be ready because this will be the fight of your life.”
With that, Mara left the office with Toby and Amelia following her, their mother, out. Leticia, Chantel, and Darren all exchanged looks with each other. Getting away from the Outsider society was easy, but staying in the Supernatural society may be their biggest challenge yet.
