Dilion turned around with a snicker. “What? You’re ready to go home already? We just came out here! ” He laughed.
“C’mon! The fireflies are just up ahead-”
A heavy gulp went down my throat, what the hell was I doing...?
Sitting here and asking questions?
I needed to leave.
Without giving him a response, I quickly turned to run off, the sound of Dillon shouting ‘get him!’ only making me pick up the pace.
My heart hammered against my ribcage, beads of sweat rolling down my face like torrenting rain while my ears were filled with the sounds of footsteps, leaves being crunched and the blood that rushed in my ears. Orders were shouted from seemingly all around me...what was once a seemingly peaceful night was now something of regret. Regret...the word repeated itself in my mind a million times over. How could I let this happen to me!?
How could I be so susceptible to pressure and weaken my mindset to let myself be led out here into a wolf’s den!?
A lamb who believed a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
So many signs and I still ignored them all! I was no better than a fish who blindly swam into a net! Only believing what was right in front of me and not looking at the signs! But, as I neared the end of the forest, the smallest flicker of hope beginning to pop up in my soul, it didn’t take long for it to immediately be extinguished as soon as I felt something trip me.
“Get the fuck off of me!” I roared at the top of my lungs, kicking and squirming around as I felt someone crawl onto my back.
My hand crawled and grabbed for my spear, the briefest touch of the weapon making me grab and attempt to swipe it at the person.
“Pin him down damn it!” I heard a woman shout as I continued to thrash and thrash before I finally managed to get her off of me.
But, once more, I was pinned down, my spear kicked out of my hands before I felt rope start to tie around my legs.
Farther and farther, they pulled me into despair, why...why didn’t I listen?!
“Get off of me! Please!” I screamed once more.
“Damn you, Dilion, I shouldn’t have-”
“Trusted me?” He chuckled as soon as I felt the person take their knee from off my back, causing me to struggle even more before someone threw me over their shoulders like a sack of flour.
“I’m rather glad you did! A Hunter is never a true Hunter if they don’t know how to trick their prey a little.” He snickered.
“Besides, I’m certain you’ll taste delicious! The fighters always do...” He smirked before he went over to pick up my spear.
Hot tears began to burn in my eyes, the feeling of a traitorous tear slipping from my eye making me seethe with fury before I looked up at the sky.
“Fidel! Fidel!?” I shouted at the top of my lungs.
“Your bird’s not coming!”
I ignored him, Fidel’s never left me behind, this moment...?
Surely...he wasn’t leaving me alone for this one either.
As the group continued to take me deeper and deeper into the woodlands, the once beautiful night sky now nothing more than pitch-black emptiness while the forest was only illuminated by the haunting light of torches that the group carried, as I started to quiet down to give my raw voice a break.
I felt another round of tears start to brim my eyes as soon as I heard a familiar call.
“Chelidon?!” I heard my Dads call, the call giving a surge of newfound energy.
I had to fight...I...I-I didn’t want to die here!
“Chelidon!? Please...please answer me! Chelidon!” Dad called.
“Dad...” I croaked out.
I desperately tried to ignore the ravenous glare Dillion shot at me, a glare that equally spelled out my impending doom as well as a threat.
‘Call and you die quicker.’ or ‘Call and your family dies with you.’
I shook my head, shutting my eyes tightly as I tried to ripe the intense feeling of doom out of my stomach and focus on the little courage I had.
I needed to try.
“Dads! Dads! I-I'm here-” I hissed in pain, my words turning into nothing but a wheeze at the feeling of the person carrying me tightening their grip all of a sudden.
I hung my head, a couple of sniffles following afterward.
“Your Dad, the tall one with dark skin, he isn’t from America, right?” Dilion suddenly questioned.
“Try to call out again and he’ll be my exotic dessert! I do wonder...will his skin taste as chocolatey as it looks?” Dilion smirked cruelly, causing me to spit in his face as I narrowed my eyes.
“Fuck you, fuck you and this entire fucking group of yours!”
I spat at him, gaining some type of empowerment watching him wipe the spit from his cheek.
“...I’ll make sure I’ll kill you painfully then.” He sighed.
“Such a shame though.” Dilion sighed.
“I truly enjoyed talking with you. It’s not every day I get to sleep on a comfy bed you know? Sleeping in random places...abandoned homes, forests, or whatever fuck else. It gives you backaches y’know?” He continued before walking up to the front of the group.
Farther and farther the entrance of the forest got, the desperate shouts and screams of my name becoming more and more distant as, each time I struggled, the person’s grip only got tighter and tighter.
I didn’t want to die.
Not here...
Not in this terrifying forest where I was sure to be eaten sooner or later.
But I had no choice.
For, as around thirty minutes or so passed, the sound of banging drums and eerie rattling and chanting making my stomach churn. I nearly felt like throwing up on the spot as soon as the group entered a forest clearing...another round of tears sliding down my face as I hung my head in both disbelief and fear. The people, all stationed outside of temporary tents while they wore muddy brown robes with a white mask that only revealed their mouths and eyes. Chills ran down my spine and my mouth went dry, the faint smell of rotting...something only confirming my fate more and more.
Here, to a bunch of cannibals.
This is where I was going to meet my end.
Not by car accident.
Or even poison for fuck's sake.
However...if I was going to die here, I wasn’t dying without putting up some sort of final stand.
“I hope all you bastards rot in Satan’s ass.” I spat as I started to struggle once more, the person carrying me setting me down in the middle of the small clearing as I looked around.
To my left, they started to drag out a stone table from Empress knows where. My heart feeling as if it was going to burst right out of my chest just as I was picked up once more.
I flinched at the freezing stone underneath my back as I was picked up and thrown onto it.
Yet, as people began to cut my bonds...I found the opportunity to struggle once more.
“Let me go!” I hollered, the feeling of my foot managing to hit someone in the stomach bringing a sense of achievement to me.
Inwardly, I managed to smirk.
Serves that bastard right.
