I sighed as I was lying in bed as I answered Zavi’s call, the dull roar of music probably just a floor or two down in their house at Academy this pulsing bass in the background, they raked their hand back through their hair which was currently an electric neon yellow tone, eyes blazing silver before the gold swirled back into them.

“Sorry about the noise” they said, their voice a little slower than normal, but it wasn’t something I was unfamiliar with, it made me laugh a little.

“You’re high aren’t you” I asked, they held up their other hand like they were pinching something.

“Little bit.” They said with a laugh before closing their eyes as they breathed deeply as they closed their eyes and focused, “Sorry, sorry…what’s up?” they asked, clearing their throat as they paused as they nearly entirely purged the highness from their system.

“That guy I told you about, the one that’s my bond.”

“Aden?”

“Yes, something is…really confusing me.”

“How so? Does the guy sleep with socks on? Pour milk before cereal? Likes pineapple on pizza?” they asked making me laugh

“No, no…just” I said before sitting up as I casted a simple little levitation spell on my phone, so I floated in front of me, “So, the guy shows…nothing about himself, he shows less of what he is than like an elf…not that there’s anything wrong with that, but there is just that meshed with a lot of other things is just…so fucking confusing.”

“Go on”

“He has all-speak” I started

“So, something divine, demonic, abyssal or draconic or he has some sort of ability like sirens or ravenfolk, where they can instantly learn languages at the first hearing of them.” They explained

“But that’s where it gets confusing…shadows like to…cling to him, but he said that things that are there in the shadows don’t like him.”

“That leans more towards abyssal or demonic.”

“But this is the monkey wrench that just got thrown in…you know the neighbor I told you about?”

“The banshee with night terrors, yeah?” they said confused

“Aden and I were talking out in the hall…she screamed, I covered my ears as you’re supposed to do and everything because I don’t want my brain to melt or my ears to explode, he just…stood there.”

“What do you mean he just stood there?’ they asked

“He was only affected by the actual sound itself; the magic had no effect on him.”

“So, he’s at least resistant to psychic sourced damaging spells” they said quietly

“And he did go to Miskatonic, he’s a professor there.”

“And you didn’t think maybe look into the fact that with that and all of this shit, that kind of points directly to what he is?” they asked

“What do you mean?”

“What do you know of Miskatonic?”

“Isn’t it some like super, super snooty and weird private school that only accepts people of certain families an’ shit?”

“Well, yes, but…have you ever heard the name…H. P Lovecraft?”

“Am I supposed to have?” I asked, Zavi sighed as they rubbed their temple
