Moonlight
"Seriously?" I said as I saw a picture of a naked statue kept as my phone wallpaper.
"What? It's cute... Look at his tiny pe... Never mind." Josh stopped mid sentence as I gave him a cold stare.
I sighed feeling pathetic and said, "This ghost."
"I heard that." Josh said making me giggle.
I started going through the pictures and was glad that Josh took all of them. He did a productive thing for once.
I read the part I couldn't read before. The mantra I said was for making a spirit in front of me touchable but won't make that spirit have its body back. It said when we touch the spirit it would remain cold and will be visible only to someone who the spirit was visible to initially. It sure worked so this book gotta be speaking the truth.
I looked at the second mantra and was careful to not read it out loud before reading what it was meant for. I decided to let Josh hear it out as well.
"This mantra is for the spirit to have it's body back..." I looked up at Josh who suddenly looked interested in listening to what was in the book, "but first the one who is sacrificing the person needs to be brought near the body and the spirit needs to be able to find an object which the one who is sacrificing has hidden somewhere near it's body. The object is used as a curse to protect the spirit from getting into its body to come alive. The object shall be broken to let the sacrifice ritual come to an end. The ritual will be completed as the dark moon completely covers the light moon." I continued.
"Solar eclipse...Damn! First the person who is sacrificing me and now the object which is cursed to stop me from coming alive. How are we supposed to find them?" Josh looked pissed.
"I know but we didn't expect it to be easy in the first place, did we?" I reminded.
"Yeah but we didn't expect it to be this hard either..." Josh sat down near me on my bed and took a deep breath, "Why would someone do that to me? I never believed in all these ghost shits and now I am one of them." Josh said looking extremely sad.
"I have no idea who would do that to you and I don't get a reason for someone to be that inhuman either. Now that you believe in ghosts, you gotta believe in God even more too... I am sure he will help you to be free from all these very soon." I said and Josh lifted his hand and brought it to my cheek to pinch it.
"You're one adorable sage." He said and I let out a light laugh.
"Whatever..." I got up and continued, "Do you know any person whose name is Marie?"
"Not really..." Josh replied looking like he was thinking real hard.
I sighed trying to figure out what to do.
"Oh yes I do... Oh yes I think I do... There was this girl, she was weird... We were classmates since middle school and she asked me out since then but I didn't like her back so I rejected her... Recently before I Uh..died..Gosh I hate to say that, she lived near my aunt's house so we were neighbours... Before the day I died.. I went to a party and I met her on the way, she started saying stuffs about liking me and all that... She was drunk but I said I don't like her again. She got really mad and said that I would pay for this... I ignored what she said as I thought she said that just because she was drunk. The next day I was dead." He continued and gave me a worried look.
"So you think it's her?" I asked with a doubt.
"She's the only Marie I know so she's our chance." He replied.
I wondered why someone would do this just because a person didn't love her or him back. It's stupid. If you love someone, you gotta learn to let them go when they don't want to stay. Not everyone is meant to be kept.
"We should go and check on her then." I said.
"Yeah let's go." Josh said that and both of us started heading towards his neighbour's house to probably spy on her.
"Should we take a cab?" I asked as I locked the house.
"I wouldn't need it but you would and there's quite a distance so I suggest you should." He said.
"You could have just said yes, you idiot." I said heatedly.
He laughed to what I said and as I saw a cab approaching, I asked Josh about the address and waved for the cab to stop. Luckily it did and we were on our way.
We reached our destination and I noticed that we were standing in front of an affluent looking house.
"Is that where she lives? She gotta be rich." I said.
"You mean this house? Nah... It used to be my parents'... I live here with my aunt, hers is there." He pointed to the house opposite to his.
I couldn't say anything more so I just started to walk towards the house of the girl, Marie. I groaned when I reached near enough to the house to see it was locked.
"Gosh it's locked!" I said angrily.
"Yeah...." Josh replied.
I looked at the house carefully and noticed that the curtain of the window was open so I went there to look through it, hoping to find some clue. It could have been more convenient if the girl herself was there since her action would help us judge her more.
I was peeping through the window, trying hard to find something suspicious until I felt someone tap on my shoulder. I jolted and turned around to look at who it was. I guess the girl I was looking at was Marie.
"Excuse me, what are you doing?" She asked, frowning and her blue eyes filled with suspicion.
I thought of something smart to say, I looked behind her and noticed Josh looking at me, trying to say something. Why didn't he inform me that she was coming?
"Does Uh... Jasmine live here? She's my childhood friend and I need to talk to her." I lied not being able to think of a better excuse.
"No, I live here with my parents and there's no Jasmine in our house." After saying that she flipped her blonde hair in the back and went inside her house.
"Why didn't you tell me that she was coming?" I hissed at Josh.
"I didn't see her coming. I was on the other side of the house." He said.
"We can't linger here today, she will start to doubt on us or me. Better come back tomorrow in this hour." I suggested as I checked the time.
"Yeah right." Josh agreed and looked at the direction of his house and then squinted his eyes to give it a careful look.
"Hey! I think my aunt is back... I need to see her." He said excitedly.
"Alright... I will see you later then.. I will be on my way." I replied.
"It won't take long, if you could wait." Josh said.
"No its fine, I can go by myself. See you." I smiled after saying that.
He smiled back at me and said, "Alright then, see you."
He ran towards his house and I started to afoot towards mine. I wondered what tomorrow had in store for us.
