The third morning after my revelation I woke with a start. Breathing heavily as I looked around my room, I started to calm down as I realized I was safe but then the sense of dread settled over me as I realized I'm supposed to start training Madox today. Groaning, I sat up on the edge of the bed and looked over to see Liah still fast asleep on the other side of the bed. With a sad smile, I made my way to the bathroom to do my morning routine before getting dressed and heading to the training ground. As I rounded the end of the house, I paused leaning on the wall to watch Madox and Ty practicing. A few minutes in, I said “that form is wrong. Your back leg is too loose” catching both of their attention.
“Oh, morning little brother. Really? I always thought it was loose to allow for faster movement” Ty said with a smile.
“Morning and that's because you're a goof Ty. Just because you can fight me like that doesn't mean he should learn it that way” I said walking over to them. Moving to stand behind Madox, I said “stiffen your back leg and bend the front one a little more.” Following my instructions without a word, I then had Ty stand in front of him before giving him permission to complete the move.
“See, it has more power when you do it right” I said looking at Ty who was now rubbing his arm where the kick has connected with his block. Training went like this every morning for the next month before Ty and I were roped into helping with wedding preparations the week before and had to switch to evenings after school.
On the day of the wedding, I told Madox we'd be skipping practice today since we'd all be busy all day. An hour before the ceremony, I was in my room getting ready when I suddenly felt this overwhelming sense of dread. Assuming it had something to do with Madox pack, I mind linked mom and Ty to ask if they knew where he was.
“He's here in the garden with me, sweetie” mom said and then calmly asked “why? What's wrong?”
“I don't know. I just got this really bad feeling. How many of the wolves from his pack are coming today?” I asked slightly panicked.
“About half. We made sure to tell them the ones tormenting him could not come though. Should we assign him a bodyguard just to be sure though?” mom asked sounding worried.
“Nah, let's just have Liah stay near him since he's comfortable with her and I know she can fight if something happens” I said cutting the connection before linking Liah.
“Hey babe, what's up? Shouldn't you be getting ready?” she asked as she accepted the link.
“I'm in my room right now but I have a favor to ask you. Can you find Madox and keep and eye on him for me? I've got a bad feeling I can't seem to shake” I asked in a worried tone as I finished buttoning up my shirt.
“Yeah, of course. Do you know where he is right now?” she asked.
“Thanks, he's in the garden with mom. I just hope I'm overreacting for nothing” I said tugging at my tie.
“After what you've been through, I wouldn't say it's overreacting. Specially since I know how you feel about him despite not being able to tell him” she said soothingly.
“Yeah, somehow I think having no feelings for him would be a hell of a lot easier” I said admitting what she already knew.
“Oh, there he is. I'm now with Madox so you can relax at least about that for now” she said cutting the connection. After a moment of thought, I asked Moon “do you think I am just overreacting? Or do you sense some sort of danger too?” sliding into my charcoal suit jacket.
“No, there is definitely something wrong. I'm just not sure what it is yet” Moon said pacing in my mind.
“Okay, glad to know it's not just me overthinking things” I said as I walked over to my dresser for the pieces of jewelry I'd be wearing today. As I finished putting the last back onto my earring, I got that bad feeling again. So, I quickly left my room and headed to the waiting room which overlooked the garden. Opening the door, I saw my family and the rest of the groomsmen waiting. As soon as I closed the door, mom came over to me and asked “are you okay now?”
“No, I can't shake this bad feeling” I said before walking over to the window. Looking out over the crowd, I quickly found Liah and Madox but as I continued to look my heart dropped. Four seats in front of them, was someone I wished I'd never see again. Taking a step back, I turned and collapsed leaning back against the wall causing my family to rush to my side.
“Oh my god, Conner what's wrong? You look like you've just seen a ghost” Kyle asked with a worried expression.
“He's here” was all I could get out before I started shaking from panic.
“Quick, get Liah and Madox up here” mom said panic laced in his voice.
“They're coming” Ty said then turned to the rest of the groomsmen and added “all of you go next door.” Within seconds, they were gone leaving us alone until Liah and Madox walked in a minute or two later. Sliding down the wall, I curled myself into a ball not caring if I ruined the suit. As I sat there, Liah came over to me and wrapped me in a hug before asking “what happened to him?”
“All we could get him to say was 'he's here' before he collapsed” Ty explained.
“Oh, that makes some sense given how off he's been this morning. He thought it had something to do with Madox but this makes way more sense” Liah said rocking us side to side.
“Wanna clue me in?” Madox asked sounding confused.
“I know he told you about what happened to him when he was twelve and the consequences of it. Well, he's been battling PTSD and depression since the event and it's given him an acute awareness of sorts. And this” Liah said gesturing towards me before continuing “is how he reacts when his PTSD is set off and that can only mean one thing. That thing is here.” Everyone who hadn't figured it out gasped just before Kyle said “fuck, Then I don't want you walking with us for your safety. Madox can take your place.”
“No, I couldn't. He's your brother and I'm practically a stranger” Madox said honestly.
“It's fine. I can't in this condition anyway” I said shakily then looking at Ty added “can you go get my meds for me please” just before hyperventilating.
“Madox, come here. We need to try and keep him calm” Liah said. A few seconds later, he sat down next to me and took my right hand as it hung draped across my knees.
“Alright, you two can watch the ceremony from up here until he calms down more” mom said kneeling in front of me then added “we need to get Madox changed though” before he stood up. As they were about to leave, Ty came back with a hand full of medications and a bottle of water. Handing them to me, I dumped them all into my mouth before emptying the entire bottle of water and handing it back. Once that was done, everyone except Liah, Madox, and I left the room.
“It's a good thing you two are the same size” Liah said helping me stand to removing my jacket and place it on the desk.
“Yeah, otherwise the color scheme would look odd. I wonder how Nina is gonna react to the changes though” Madox said shrugging off his jacket and laying it on the desk next to mine.
“Oh, she already knows. She's not thrilled but she understands. Since, Kyle hasn't kept anything from her” I said as Liah helped me loosen my tie before pulling it over my head. Laying it on top my jacket, she removed my cuff links before unbuttoning my shirt since my hands were shaking too bad to be able to do it myself. Putting my hands on her shoulders, I toed off my shoes just as she started pulling my shirt out of the waist band of my slacks. Glancing over, I saw Madox was doing the same just before he slid his shirt off. Looking away again, I felt Liah's finger poke my stomach before she gripped my belt and tugged on it to loosen it. Closing my eyes, I focused on my breathing trying to remain calm. Feeling calmer, I opened my eyes again and when I did I heard a gasp. Looking down, I saw Liah's eyes on me.
“What?” I asked her confused.
“Well, you definitely can't leave the room like that” she said still staring.
“What are you even talking about?” I asked getting kind of annoyed and worried.
“Your eyes are glowing. I think Moon may have some control right now” Madox said calmly moving to stand beside Liah as he watched me.
“Huh?” I asked confused since it didn't feel like Moon had control right now. Moving over slightly, Liah looked at Madox and said “kiss him.”
“Why would I do that? Wouldn't that mess him up more in this state?” he asked confused.
“It won't since it's you. It'll help him gain control. Now kiss him” Liah insisted. Before I could protest, Madox placed both hands on either side of my face and whispered “sorry about this” before pressing his lips to mine. Suddenly, I felt arms behind me as my knees gave out and my eyes closed. Pulling back, Madox adjusted his grip to guide me into the chair. Sitting me down, Liah returned to undressing me undoing the button and zipper on my slacks. As I opened my eyes, I looked at her but couldn't bring myself to look at Madox.
“That's better. Now you look like yourself again minus the pretty pink coloring on your cheeks” Liah teased giggling as she pulled my pants down my legs. Seconds later, they were being replaced with the pair of black slacks Madox had been wearing.
“Oh my god Moon, I can't believe that just happened” I thought in complete shock as I stared at the floor while Liah was redressing me.
“I can but I never thought Liah would be the reason it did” he said with a smile.
“It's not funny. What if he turns out to be out mate and that was our first kiss?” I thought still unable to look at him as I couldn't put my mask back into place.
“Well then, I think it would be okay since he did it to help us get back to ourselves” Moon said with a shrug.
“Ugh, you're no help. Why is he here? Why did he come back?” I thought internally freaking out. This time it wasn't Moon to respond but Madox.
“Hey relax, you're safe here. There is no way any of us are going to leave your side let alone let anything happen to you” he said as he ran his thumb under my left eye to wipe away tears I didn't know I'd been crying. Surprised, I looked back at him only to realize he was fully dressed again in my charcoal suit which made him look sexier if that was even possible and sarcastically said “not that you'd be much help in a fight.”
