Summer vacation, a time that everyone looked forward to especially when you’re a senior in college. Just one last semester and then it’s time for graduation before being thrown into the real world. The real world. Both a terrifying and yet satisfying thought, especially if you’ve spent a chunk of your life bouncing from one school to the next. Kindergarten, then middle school then high school. For some kids they’ll take time off after high school to work and decide what they want to do with their lives before they go to college, or maybe they’ll join a branch in the Army and then go to college. Or maybe some students will just go to a trade school or find their own way in life other than college. For every student it’ll be different, even for the ones going to college they’ll be majoring in something that’ll get them even farther in life. 

Summer vacation, it was once a time spent goofing off with friends or wasting the days away with video games. But all good things must come to an end, even summer vacation once replaced by the real world. Sure there will still be time to do all those fun things but it isn’t the same anymore, not when you’ve had to grow up and get a job and face the reality. Time spent in college was now replaced with time spent at work, summer vacation means more time at work which means more hours and more hours means more money. More money means a bigger check come pay day. Suffice to say that money can disappear in an instance, especially when you have bills to pay and duties to do at home. 

Summer vacation could be spent at home with family when you’re not living on campus, or maybe it means spending that time at the apartment. The hours seem to pass by in a blur no matter where you’re located, it no longer feels like there’s twenty-four hours in a day. Sometimes those days could feel like they’ve passed in the blink of an eye, that time could pass by even faster when you’re at home with the family. All too soon the time is passing you by and with each passing day the end of summer vacation grows closer.

Summer vacation. It’s all coming to an end so fast that it begs the question of where did the time go? Time that was once spent working for the money or spending it with family and friends, a lot of times there’s that lingering desire to turn back time and maybe do something different like working less to spend more time with the family or spend less time with the family to work more. So many different choices that people could have made but there’s no telling where those choices would have led them. All anyone can do is make the choice presented to them and keep looking forward, looking to the past will only bring back doubt and uncertainty.

Say goodbye to summer vacation and say hello to school, the only thing anyone can do is enjoy it while it lasts. All good things must come to an end, and as the years go on the idea of summer vacation will change once reality decides to set in. We can’t stay young and innocent forever after all.
