My days had become hectic as I prepped for the day I would finally be off this damn planet. Every day was filled with constant additional training courses prepared for me by Instar. Of course, these were all held online as I had already completed all of the necessary physical checks at my recent license renewal. Most of the training lessons were about diplomacy with alien lifeforms and common Earth customs that should be avoided when interacting with them. In other words, SNORE. God, you think if I wanted to be a diplomat I would have just gone to an underground school for losers and not for intergalactic exploration. But, I guess I should at least be grateful that they’re being so patient with me even if I am only getting just above failing marks on the examinations.
The emails I get back after finishing a course are always so sickly positive that I’m sure that they have to be automatically generated. I mean most emails are these days anyway, I mean all of my replies were automatically generated, can’t have them finding out how underqualified I actually am after all. The basic education I received is no way near the level of being able to communicate on par with a legally licensed scout that for sure would have been educated on how to respond to such correspondences.
I sighed, staring at my virtual calendar. The glow bouncing off my tired eyes. Just one more week and this training session would be over. After that, I’d have my first look at the ship that would take me straight out of this atmosphere and into a space that I’ve done nothing but imagine.
Hah. Just a little more…
