Flower Boy

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Oct 01, 2021

Aiden smells the nice air of early England as the small convertible drives down the curvy roads, taking them closer and closer to their destination. Aiden, John, Wendy, and Aunt Becky all sing along to the blaring radio, their voices all off tune but they don't care.

"I don't care! I love it!"

"Woo!"

"Yeah!"

"Ah, I really do enjoy that song." Aunt Becky turns the radio down as commercials start playing. "So kids, how's school been?"

"The same." Her nephew says with a shrug.

"Now what is that supposed to mean?" Aunt Becky looks over at Aiden.

"What he means Aunt B, is that it's still boring and is like a prison for the poor teenagers of this town." John says, giving Aiden a reassuring look.

Aiden had begged the two in freshman year to never bring up the fact that he gets bullied, he doesn't want his Aunt to worried or feel like it's her fault by sending him there. And with all that's been going on in the last two days, he especially doesn't want them to bring it up.

"Oh well, you know how school is. I remember me and Marsha would skip school and sneak off to the fields to play, ooooh was father mad with us! Mother was a free spirit as well so she wasn't nearly hard on us as much as father was." Aunt Becky laughs. "One time I accidentally blew up the science lab just so the teacher wouldn't notice that Marsha had skipped to sneak out with her boyfriend at the time."

"You and mom sound like you had lots of fun." Aiden smiles widely at his Aunt, always cherishing the stories she would tell him about his parents.

"Oh wow, what chemical compound did you use?" Wendy leans forward, it may not show often, but Wendy was a very big nerd.

"She blew up a science lab and all you care about is the chemical compound?!" John gives her a look of disappointment.

Aunt Becky and Aiden laugh as the two start bickering.

"So Aiden, how are you?" Aunt Becky gives him a look, the look that says, 'and dont even try to lie because you suck at it.'

"U-um well-"

"Did you make cookies Aunt B?" Aiden silently thanked John for his quick save.

"Hmm, now are you talking about my sunflower seed cookies, or oatmeal raisin cookies?"

"Gross, how dare you even say that disgusting name. Your sunflower cookies of course!" John cringed slightly.

"Ha ha, you'll just have to see love!" Her thick english accent sings out, making the three smile.

The rest of the car ride is filled with laughter and singing, all four enjoying the ride. After sometime, they finally make it to Aiden's house, the small quaint home surrounded by flowers and trees.

"Ah, isn't she a beaut?" Aunt Becky pulls the car up into the rocky drive way.

"Oh how I missed home." Aiden smiles.

"And it missed you." She places her hand on his shoulder and smiles.

They all get out and walk into the small home, it's warm flower smell engulfs the group. Small and big paintings of flowers and plants cover the walls, all which were done by Aunt Becky herself. The front door opens up to a short hallway that has a fork at the end of it, left leads down another hallway the has two bedrooms and the bathroom, forward leads to the small yet cozy living room, and going right leads into the kitchen. They take their shoes off and go right, the smell other cookies leading them by their noses.

"Are those-"

"Sunflower seed cookies, yes." Aunt Becky laughs whole heartedly as John runs to the plate on the countertop, he takes one and moans as he takes a bite.

"These are so good Aunt B." He smiles at her greatly.

"Well I'm happy, and of course their homemade and I used the seeds from the sunflowers out back."

"Oh yes, these are amazing." Wendy grabs one as well.

"You out did yourself Aunt Becky." Aiden says, nearly shoving the whole thing in his mouth.

"Well don't eat all of them now, save some for tonight."

"What's tonight?" John asks, hesitant to grab a second cookie.

"Movie night of course! Like I wouldn't record and look on demand for black and white movies!"

"Oh yay! We haven't had movie night in so long." Wendy jumps, her smile reaching her eyes.

"Thus why I planned ahead."

______

That night they watched black and white movies till they couldn't hold their eyes open anymore, and around 2 am Aunt Becky turned in for the night, leaving the three teens to stay up one more hour before falling asleep themselves. Aiden woke up the next morning to the sound of clattering in the kitchen, and only after hearing a crash did he finally get up.

"What happened?!" He asked while running into the room.

He stopped as he saw Aunt Becky kissing Principal O'Neill, his jaw dropped as the two pulled away to look at him.

"A-Aiden, why good morning..." His Aunt gave him a nervous smile as a faint blush covered her cheeks, Principal O'Neill however was as red as a tomato.

"You- Him- Principal O'Neill- Aunt Becky!?" Aiden could barely talk as he kept pointing back and forth between the two, he felt like fainting.

"Aiden-" Principal O'Neill stepped forward.

"What the heck is going on?" John asked while yawning, walking up behind Aiden.

"My aunt is fucking our Principal." Aiden said, more to himself but non the less.

"Wait- What?" John opens his eyes completely and looks into the room.

"Why is Principal O'Neill here?" Wendy asks, coming up behind Aiden on the other side.

"Well-"

....

"So...is that how you got me into Prince Hall?"

Aunt Becky and Brian- Principal O'Neill- sat the three teens down and explained everything. The two had been dating for eight years now, neither wanted to marry but neither wanted to stay single forever either. Both had met at a small get together with a few other friends, and apparently the two went to high school together and Brian mentioned he had a crush on her then too. After finding out her nephew had moved in with her, Brian had offered him a spot at Prince Hall. Aunt Becky being Aunt Becky, obviously declined but after a lot of persuading, she finally agreed to it.

"Yes..." Aunt Becky looked down, embarrassed and ashamed.

"....why didn't you just tell me you were dating him?" Aiden asked, a small smile on his lips.

"What?" She looked up, completely shocked.

"Yeah, I mean I don't mind you dating him, do you guys?" Aiden looked at his two friends.

"Nope." John shrugs.

"Not at all." Wendy smiles.

"See Aunt Becky, I-we don't care who you date," He reaches out and places a hand onto of hers. "as long as you're happy and he treats you right- he treats you good, right?"

"Of course!" Aunt Becky smiles.

"He better." Aiden gives Brian an attempt at a challenging side look, he succeeds and makes the man gulp.

"I promise I won't disrespect her in any way Aiden." Brian says, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I love her too much."

This makes Aunt Becky blush greatly, looking down with a small smile. Wendy and Aiden coo over the cuteness, John just smiles while grabbing another cookie.

"Well then, that's settled- who's up for some pancakes?" Aunt Becky stands up, a faint blush still on her cheeks.

"Me!" John shoots his hand into the air, making everyone laugh.

As he's about to leave, Aiden feels a hand on his shoulder.

"May I speak with you, in private?" Brian stands behind him.

"Um, yes sir."

Brian smiles and leads Aiden out onto the back porch, they take a seat in the two rocking chairs and Aiden waits for what ever it is Brian has to say. He takes a deep breathe and looks over at Aiden.

"Aiden, does she know?"

"Does she know what?" His brows knit in confusion.

"Does she know about the bullying?"

Aiden feels the color from his face drain as he looks down, "No sir, and I don't want her to ever know."

"Why Aiden?"

"Because," He looks up into Brian's eyes. "I don't want her to think it's her fault, I don't want her thinking it's her fault by sending me to that school."

Brian nods and looks down at his hands, staring at them intently. They both knew how his Aunt acted, and knew she would think exactly that.

"Will you tell her some day?"

"Maybe, maybe not." Aiden looks out into the yard, it being just one giant garden.

"I hope you do, I want to be there when you do." Brian looks over at him. "If you let me be there, that is."

"Of course." Aiden gives him a small smile.

"Thank you." Brian nods and smiles back. "Now let's go in before John eats all the pancakes."

"Ha ha, okay." Aiden stands up and the two walk back into the kitchen.

"What were you two talking about?" Aunt Becky looks up at them after flipping a pancake, the two look at each other and smile

"Guy stuff." Brian shrugs.

"Oh, well then I don't want to know." They all three laugh.

"Well I'm going to help Wendy and John pick up." Aiden says before walking towards the door.

"Oh Aiden!" He turns and looks at his Aunt.

"Yeah Aunt Becky?"

"Thank you, for um-"

"You're welcome, as long as you're happy, I'm happy." And with that Aiden walks out of the kitchen.
