Knox
They say that finding your Soul Mate is as rare as a wish coming true from a shooting star. Scientific studies show that only 5% of the world's population ever gets the chance. I never thought I'd meet mine, so I tried settling at a young age. I went to school and fell in love, only to have it taken away from me tragically. That incident made me never want to open my heart to another again, but he came along and destroyed that.
Jax.
An Omega who was different to any other; soft, pale skin, long brown hair and a small scar across his lower lip. He was taller and more muscular than any other Omega I'd met, yet that added to his beauty more.
Jax, the man that made my heart want to jump from my chest. The beautiful, divine creature that set my skin on fire. He wouldn't heal me entirely, but that wasn't what love was about.
My ears ring, and my chest feels like it's about to explode; Jax was in trouble. I could feel him calling to me somehow; how was that possible? I stand from my desk, stopping Esai Quinn mid-sentence as I settle my palms on my desk. I need to move; I have to get to Jax now!
"I'm sorry, Mr Quinn, I'm suddenly not feeling well. If you go to the front desk, my secretary will create another appointment for you. I'm very sorry to have wasted your time."
I barely get my words out as I stride from the room without looking back. Neck forms on my skin as I slam out onto the stairwell, shocking Mr Ta just as he's about to enter.
"Sir,"
I growl,
"Follow me."
He obliges. I take the steps two at a time, my heart beating quicker the furthur I descend. What had happened to him? Who would I have to kill? Chest tight, I kick open the door to the parking garage and scan the area, I can feel him, and it hurts to know he's in pain. A guard waves at me from the back, and I break out into a sprint, ignoring Mr Ta's calls as I round the corner. When I spot him, my world falls away.
He was locked tightly into a ball whilst trembling. My brother, Aiden, sits beside him, his medical bag open as he tries to unlock Jax's limbs without success. What had happened to him?
"Sir, he fell to the ground crying; we don't know what happened!"
I nod; not even the guards could comprehend the situation.
"Knox."
I hear him whisper my name in a sob and walk to him,
"Jax."
Aiden looks up, his face relieved as he spots me. I fall beside him and reach my hand out. I place it onto his head and sigh at the contact; he shivers from my touch, his body reacting to me as he continues to sob. Then, slowly, I feel his body relax, which Aiden takes advantage of by unfolding him from his ball-like position. Next, I lift him from the ground and settle him into my lap, my body relaxing as he clutches the front of my shirt and buries his face into the material. Finally, I wrap my arms around him and squeeze. Jax - My Jax.
"It seems he has had a panic attack due to the bond. It seems something has made him react this way; can you think of what that may be?"
I press my nose into his hair and close my eyes,
"He started acting strange as soon as he saw Esai Quinn."
Aiden raises a brow but continues to prick Jax's finger with the small device that checks his blood.
"Why would that cause him to panic?"
"I think they have history."
"Jax has a history with the new leader of S-Districts underworld?"
I nod, I don't know how, but it was the only plausible solution.
"Well, sooner or later, you will have to tell him about the bond."
"How can I take away his freedom like that? You know he doesn't want a lover; I don't want to force any of this onto him."
A sharp pain stabs at my chest, and I groan. Jax shivers in my body, and I hold him tighter as he inhales my pheromones. I inhale his back, holding onto him as if he were my lifeline. I would not admit the bond to him; he came here to escape something, and I would not be why he had to stay. Instead, I would support him, despite the pain it may cause me.
"If you don't admit it to each other, this will become a regular occurrence. You can only hold back the Alpha instinct for so long, Knox."
He was right already; my instincts were to mark him and never let him out of my sight again.
I admire Jax and brush my finger down his flushed cheeks with a sigh. I graze the outline of his lips and shudder as he groans. How could someone be this beautiful?
"Aiden, tell me what to do."
I look up to my brother, who smiles,
"Professionally, I think you should tell him, but as your brother, all I can say is do what your heart tells you to - stop being scared of what may happen and live for the present moment."
He was always right.
"I'm away on business soon; I will tell him when I am home."
"It's for the best; he may be bonded to you, but that doesn't mean his freedom is gone."
"But his choice will be."
I lean down and place my forehead on Jaxs; I'm sorry.
Aiden picks up his medical bag, and I stand whilst holding Jax protectively to my chest. I had to take him home; I needed to be the one that took care of him.
"Mr Ta, cancel all business for today and reschedule."
He bows,
"Yes, Sir."
"Aiden, could Jax stay with you whilst I'm away on business?"
My brother scoffs,
"Cassian has done nothing but whine at me to bring him over; it would be a welcome relief for him to stay with us."
I smile; what would I do without my brother?
"Honestly, Knox, my wife is a demon. I have bruises all over my body after you hung up on him."
I laugh,
"Don't blame me for the violence within your marriage."
He growls at me and follows me to my car. I settle Jax into the front seat and buckle him in; I softly place a kiss on his head before shutting the door.
"Take care of him."
"I will."
Aiden nods and turns whilst burying his hands into his white lab coat.
I watch him walk away. My brother was the only one keeping me from drowning for a long time, but now that was Jax - he was my reason to stay alive. He was the only thing stopping me from falling into the depths of my shattered soul.
