Hazel’s parents were extremely worried for their daughter, they knew something wasn’t right. Their daughter ideally would have met her mate by then but hadn’t so they made sure to keep an eye on her. They didn’t want to lose her, they had seen other Nekos lose their children to the vortex and dreaded the thought of losing one of their own especially Hazel their first born but unknown to them, Hazel had already decided to leave them.

Hazel knew her suspicions had been confirmed. Her mate wasn’t from her world. She would have to leave to find him. It wasn’t a decision taken lightly, Hazel had thought things over and over in her head the past few weeks. She always came to the same conclusion. She was never going to find her mate if she stayed where she was, she would have to leave her home to find him. It was the only option because she couldn’t live without her mate. She hadn’t met him but she knew she wouldn’t survive without him. She had to take a risk and find him but there was only one place she could think of where he could be. The human world.

Every week, on the same day. Thursday which was today, a vortex opened. This vortex was believed to take you to the human world. Every week for her whole life, Hazel had seen Nekos go through the vortex because they hadn’t found their mate who they believed to be on Earth-the human world. However, leaving was dangerous, there was no guarantee of returning. No one had ever returned. Everyone assumed those who had left were dead but even with the knowledge of knowing there was no coming back, Nekos still left because without a mate, a Neko would go crazy and die. Hazel couldn’t allow her life to disappear as if she was nothing. She had to at least try to find the one she was destined to be with.

Hazel had it all planned and was about to go ahead with her plan.

Hazel volunteered to take the rubbish out as the bin was ready to be emptied. Her parents didn’t think anything of it as Hazel took the rubbish out often. Hazel knew she couldn’t take any belongings with her as it would be suspicious. She had to leave everything behind.

Once Hazel had finished placing the rubbish in the waste collection bin outside, she made her way to the vortex which had conveniently appeared opposite her house. There she saw a few other Nekos in a line ready to go in. By the time she was close enough to the vortex, she was the only one stood there.

“Hazel what are you doing?” Hazel heard her Mum’s worried voice ask as she stepped out the house to see where Hazel was.

“I’m sorry Mum,” Hazel apologised. “I have to do this,”

“Please don’t,” Hazel’s Mum pleaded. “Don’t go,”

“I have to,” were Hazel’s final words before she took a deep breath and stepped into the vortex without knowing if she would ever see her family again.
