We Fall

Chapter 5: Troubled Teen (Part 2)

Chapter 5: Troubled Teen (Part 2)

Oct 07, 2021

“As you wish, but walking is too slow. Allow me.” Nora began to levitate off the ground.

“Whoa, w-whoa,” Nora flailed around as she got lifted up.

“Relax, don’t overthink it. Let your body move with the power. Think about where you want to go and the rest will follow.” Jinn instructed.

“Holy cow, I’m like a superhero,” Nora said in amazement.

“Perhaps we should go somewhere less public.”

“I know just the place,” Nora smirked as she launched up into the air.

“Where’s that?”

“Woo! Look at me, I’m flying!” She laughed as her hood flew off and rain pelted her in the face.

“Glad I could cheer you up.”

“Holy cow this is amazing. I should totally become a superhero.”

“Not wise.”

“Why not?”

“Flaunting your power will draw enemies towards you. What do you think happened to my last host? Your mothers would come after us. They would attack you. You can’t trust them. We must keep this a secret. No one can know.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” Nora weaved in and out of the trees.

“Be wise Nora. You must be very selective on who you can trust. Or else this power will be taken away in a blink of an eye.” To make a point Nora suddenly stopped levitating and began to fall.

She screamed on the way down but before she could crash land, the power came back.

“Don’t do that!” Nora hissed.

“You have to trust me. I will catch you every time, but without me, there will be nothing there to catch you and you will fall.”

“Okay, okay, you made your point,” Nora grumbled.

They came upon Lyssa’s house which Nora assumed was abandon as it usually was. She would often come down here to play when she was younger. She never knew why but she was always drawn to the place.

“Weird,” Nora said as they landed on a tree.

“What is it?”

“This place is usually empty, but I can feel people inside. Is that a thing we do now? Can we feel people?”

“What you are sensing is their souls. We can sense other living beings nearby, especially supernatural beings like our self.”

Nora watched from afar as Bex and Lyssa walked out in the rain.

“You need to heal, no if and's or buts,” Bex said.

“Fine Rebecca, as you wish.” Lyssa sighed.

Nora recognized them from the video.

“Why do they look the same?” Nora asked.

“They are vampires, vampires do not age.”

“What is a vampire? Like the ones on Tv?”

“Sort of, yes.”

Nora floated down to get a closer look. She grabbed onto another branch, but it snapped drawing Bex’s and Lyssa’s attention.

Nora subconsciously turned invisible.

“Who’s there?” Bex demanded searching the area with her red eyes.

“Why can’t they see me?” Nora whispered.

“Look at yourself.”

Nora looked down at her own hands but didn’t see anything.

“Show yourself!” Lyssa demanded.

“Whoa, cool,” Nora said.

“We better get out of here.”

Nora nodded and quickly flew off.

“What else can we do?” Nora asked.

“How about hold lighting. Outstretch your hand.”

Nora did as she was told and lightning quickly came down from the sky to her hand wrapping around her body but not hurting her.

“Whoa.”

“Now aim and fire.”

Nora looked around before aiming at a tree and using her finger like a gun firing lighting at the tree. It hit with a loud crash and the tree blew apart, falling down and sending wood chunks everywhere.

“Wow! Did you see that!?”

“There is still so much we can do together.”

“This is going to be fun,” Nora smirked.

It was only an hour later when Joan and Rooney got the call that Nora had not shown up to class. They quickly panicked and tried to call her, but the call kept going straight to voice mail. They assumed the worse. They went out looking for her, getting Bex and Lyssa involved but no one could find the girl.

But around the time school let out as Joan and Rooney were home with Bex and Lyssa inside, trying to figure out their next move Nora just walked into the house. Soaking wet from the rain.

“Nora!” Joan and Rooney said in unison before running over to her and engulfing her in a hug.

“Okay?” Nora pushed them off.

“Where the hell have you been?” Joan demanded.

“I went for a walk,” Nora lied before moving to go upstairs.

“Nora!” Rooney called.

“Relax, I can handle myself.”

“It’s not wise to go out alone,” Lyssa said.

“Who are you?” Nora asked.

“Oh uh, Nora this is Rebecca and Lyssa, my uh… distant cousins, twice removed.” Joan made up.

“If you say so, mom.” Nora snorted in amusement before running upstairs to her room and shutting the door behind her.

“Uh… she’s grown up. A lot.” Bex said.

“Is this normal?” Lyssa asked.

“No,” Joan said.

“Sort of,” Rooney said.

Joan shot her a look.

“What, she does act out a lot,” Rooney said.

“And who’s fault is that?” Joan shot back.

“So now everything is my fault?”

“You know why she acts out.”

“I thought we put this behind us!”

“One apology is not going to undo the lifetime of pain you’ve put her through.”

“She was fine this morning!” Rooney snapped back.

Bex and Lyssa looked back and forth between Joan and Rooney.

“Uh, maybe I should talk to her.” Bex offered.

“No!” Joan and Rooney said in unison.

Bex frowned.

“Just go, we’ll handle it,” Joan said.

“But—”

“Come on Rebecca, we are not welcome here.” Lyssa glared at Joan before dragging Bex away.

Bex sighed in defeat before walking outside.

“Psst!”

Lyssa and Bex stopped on their way out.

“Up here!” Nora called from her bedroom window.

Bex looked up and smiled at Nora.

“Hey,” Bex waved.

“Rebecca we shouldn’t,” Lyssa warned.

“Look at her Lyssa, look at how much she’s grown. She looks just like Joan.” Bex’s eyes watered as she felt a warmth wash over her.

Lyssa sighed and grabbed Bex’s hand, interlocking their fingers.

“So who are you guys really?” Nora called down.

“Just some associates of your mother’s,” Lyssa said.

“Ugh, who would ever work with them?” Nora rolled her eyes.

Bex giggled as a tear slid down her cheek.

“Nice seeing you Nora,” Bex called.

“Nice meeting you too!” Nora called down.

“Nora who are you talking to!?” Joan demanded.

“Oop got to go! See ya!” Nora smiled before shutting the window.

Bex stayed smiling at the window.

“You’ll get to see her again, promise,” Lyssa said.

“I just want to hold her again. Look at how grown up she is. She looks like us now.” Bex laughed through her tears.

“Hey, nothing is going to happen to her, I swear it.” Lyssa wiped Bex’s tears.

“I won’t let them hurt her. I’ll kill them before they hurt her.” Bex growled.

“Easy Rebecca. I don’t want you to lose yourself to that again. Not when I just got you back.”

Bex rested her forehead against Lyssa’s and whimpered.

“Come along, we have to get ready. Make plans. If you ever want to hold Nora again we have to end this.”

“Okay,” Bex said.

She and Lyssa shared a quick kiss before they vanished.
